  • I have been in the market for a real good Laser light that had a good variety of options. I saw the Chauvet Scorpion Dual RGB light and that I would give it a test drive. Here is an in depth look at the light.

      Thanks for watching. This is right in the middle when it comes to price for a good laser light. I would only use this light if I can fog the room. Otherwise you will only see the light on the target it is pointing to. You will loose the body of the light without any particles in the air.

    Nice video! I'm in the market for some cool effect on stage lighting for my band. I was wondering how wide is the light beam and do you think I would need 2 of them to do Clubs?

    • @Housemix10
      @Housemix10  Před 3 lety +2

      First off, thanks for watching. The light has a 36 Degree coverage angle. I filmed this video in my garage. The light is pointing towards my garage door and width of the light is around 8 feet. The actual unit was around 20 feet away from the garage door. So use this to determine the coverage for your venue. I always feel that Laser lights are really skinny and for a band you would want a "fatter" beam to either point up or to place behind the band. I like this light but I don't think it will give you much for use with a band.

    Good video, I just got this light today and I’m having some trouble with the sound active mode. I have 2 kinta FX and those sound modes work great (both at full mic sensitivity). However the scorpion seems to act differently: when I set the mic sense to 1 (lowest), it never turns off even when I stop the music, and when I turn it to max sense (9) it barely reacts. Not sure what’s going on? Any help would be appreciated.

      Download the Manual from the Chauvet website if you don't have it. Check this.. You have two settings to check. First press the Menu button until you see AUT. This is the Automatic Program settings. Choose up or down until you change this to So1-6. These are the Sound Active Programs. Then also change the Sound Sensitivity settings by pressing menu until you see S 0-9. This is better explained in the manual, page 9

    • @Housemix10
      @Housemix10  Před 4 lety

      Yes the laser can cover a large room. I used it in a School Cafeteria and it looks good. I needed to fog up the room for the light to have some good body. I have seen some other scorpion lights and I would say it is better because you can change the laser color to multiple colors.

  • @styxtar
    @styxtar Před 3 lety +1

    So can you control the brightness of each individual laser? Like what if I want just one solid beam or the beams to be at drastically different angles. Is that an achievable effect with this light? If not, is there a better product for doing that?

    • @Housemix10
      @Housemix10  Před 3 lety

      Hey thanks for Watching. No this light does not have a Dimmer control. The laser is either on or off. There is a Strobe feature but you can only control how fast the laser strobes. Maybe if you connect multi of these lights up to some DMX software you can achieve what you are trying to do. But from one single light I am not sure if they come with dimmers at this price point.

      Out of the box most lights will just to 2 or 4 standard programs. If you want to have total control over your lighting you need to hook them up to a DMX controller. That way you can set all the different options the way you want and make any type of combination your light is capable of doing. Thanks for watching.

      Thanks for watching. It really depends on you and how much control you want over your lighting. If you are fine with just using Sound Active Mode then you can you any one of the Chauvet Obey controllers or others that are similar. Just make sure the unit has enough channels to cover your lighting. If you want a little more control but not really ready to get into Scene design then look at the Lighting Applications like MyDMX Go or even hardware like the ADJ WMX1. These are powerful applications that have a lot of cool present features. Just note, like most things I have dealt with once you get a taste you are going to want more. Eventually you are going to end up using a flow blown software DMX package. I use My DMX 3.0 and it is great. With the DMX Software you are fully in control or everything.

    Hi housemixer Leo D...thanks for the video...how does the chauvet scorpion behave outside, for example projecting against a wall and without fog? I had the ADJ micro 3D II (i think you mentioned you also had one), which had a cool effect and did the trick (beautiful projections against walls and trees and also inside) and i was happy with it, but it broke so i am looking for something a bit more sofisticated and modern. If you have other suggestions i will be pleased to receive them. Good remixing also by the way. Congratulations!

    • @Housemix10
      @Housemix10  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey thanks for watching. The light is just ok when you use it without fog. When you project the light toward a wall you simply get the lines. Lasers in general without any fog are kind of boring to me. The fog or any atmospheric particle in the air give the lasers body. That is where you get the most out of them. For the price point I feel this is a good buy since you get a light capable of generating multiple colors instead of the standard laser colors (Red, Green, maybe Blue). I don't know if you are interested in the higher, pricier laser lights. But again the laser beam is still a single light and without fog you really do loose a lot of the effect. ADJ used to have a light similar to this called the Ruby Royal. It is discontinued now but you seem to get more from light because they distorted the laser to make it seem "bigger" or more spread out. Something like that might work outside.
