- Chauvet DJ are one of the biggest names in lighting, partly because they are always innovating new concepts which are designed to make DJ’s lives easier. On the new episode of Beatsource Tech, we check out their new Integrated Lighting System, or ILS, which allows one central unit - the Gigbar Move+ ILS, to control a variety of additional fixture types, creating a fully synchronized show with no DMX knowledge required.

This system will be useful for Small pubs, Bars and mobile DJs as a simple to use solution that won't require SSL files and programming. But I would still prefer using DMX for the ability to adjust anything my client needs on the fly without limitation. I have been working as an LD since 2007 learning on an ETC 24/48 Express then later upgrading to the ETC Smartfade ML for use with bands and theaters but now I love digital systems like Lumidesk, DasLight, MyDMX or if you have big boy money GrandMA3 ON-PC is the top of the line control system. - DJ Molex
Thanks for the ETC 24 48 model. I didn't know the name but I first started operating on this exact model it seams. Never got to program it. Just operation tho in a theater format.
I'm now on Obsidian Onyx & might have to learn Grand Ma for work :)
I was using soundswitch now gone onto the gigbar move ils awesome all in one fixture, features of the remote are ok an external controller with quick jump between shows and particularly fixture blackout has to be in chauvet future plans for this unit
Definitely a step in the right direction. DMX flexibility and portability are definite pluses.
Thank you for the review. 😊
Sounds like an amazing thing!
I like SoundSwitch DMX + Chauvet D-Fi wireless … it gives you just what you need once you set the addresses and it works with your hardware/dj app. I’m not sold on this ILS setup unless you are starting from scratch and don’t want to customize your lights exactly the way you want, but I definitely see the advantage for a one person gig. I have may questions. Do they have a trade in program or anything to get people to switch over that are already invested?
Please compare with the JMAZ VERSA FLEX BAR if you are able to, love your content, thanks.
we used to use two mushrooms, one hanging down and one pointed horizontal, turn one on for 15 min turn one off for 15 min , we always had to have spare bulbs but it got the job done with smoke
Also, can you do an episode on DMX SPLITTERS and why / how we would use them???
Can't you have 1 160 light ils. Than dmx to a non ils? I have tried it with dfi and it works
Im setting up a Spot 160 ils on the floor and it says on the screen my dfi is removed. Can you show us how to set it up.
DMX is rocket science...PERIOD!
As good as this version of the Gigbar looks I really wish this system wasn't tied down to it. Being able to just have 4 intimidators or a few swarms in a small bar/venue would be great. Still a really cool concept.
Sold my SoundSwitch for ADJWMX1 and I love it. Chauvet's ILS sounds nice but you are locked into the ILS system. If I can use my WMX1 with the ILS programing this might work. IF Chauvet Dj were to come out with a WMX1 like controller.........
Ahhhhh. I use Soundswitch and the W1 together and it works great.
Control One for wash fixtures and the W1 for any movers in my setup.
Very powerful to use both as you can use the Control One as the main Ableton Clock.
ILS is a gimmick aimed at catching people who aren't invested in DMX and are prone to poor purchase choices.
Two quick questions.
1. Does the foot switch come with the set up or is that extra and if so do you know how much
2. When using the remote can you make the show one color for example all red or a blue or is it just a multi color every time
1. yes and it works well - 2 you can change colour on both footswitch and remote
Is the chauvet BT air app any good in 2024? It doesn't have great reviews...
Hell yes! Last year i bought lights for about 2500usd, and subscribed to soundswitch - well that sucked! I have no dmx knowledge. I'm a "home dj",not a professional, all the lights that i own are for strictly personal usage. I have put them on sound mode with different sensitivityes...and it's a mess, i have put them in soundswitch and that was a crapy show....so yes...ils is a life changer for me. I think that a 3-4000eur ils setup - like 2 gigbars, 2 x160s and 2 kintas you will have quite a show. Question - why do yours don't have the fat laser?
The lasers are different in different territories, I think it’s a legal/standards thing.
Are ya able to run Soundswitch as the "brain" into the gig bar providing the sequencing and have ils units follow?
You can link everything that way but then you’re just using DMX chaining instead, ILS isn’t involved in that.
@@Mojaxx Got it, so ils is a completely independent system from dmx then. Interesting. thanks for the reply!
Wouldn't be lovely to "add" ILS to the gigbar move I ALREADY HAVE....Hmmmm
This is fine for plug in and go situations, but as soon as your clients start asking for "looks"; i.e. for a first dance, then you're stuffed, as the control aspect will give you mixed results.
IMO the best new thing coming out in the lighting space this year will be Daslight 5 and their Super Scene Timeline feature.
Please hit up Simon at Nicolaudie for an advance BETA. Loads of us are dying to see what Daslight 5 will be like! :)
Doesn’t it have D Fi installed? Where you can use DFi dongle
I’m sorry but the new proper name for slave is not ”follower”, but ”familiar” :) Guillermo would approve ;)
Wtf? 🤦
@@oddioj1350 I guess you don't watch What we do in the shadows :)
I AM a Wedding DJ, and I love my Gigbar move. Just upgraded to the ILS move. Now I have to replace my swarms with the ILS versions.
Chauvet has an ILS command controller available now, so you don't need the Gigbar.
they need to take all the cheesy lasers of lights competly!!!! i bought a adj dmx bridge for $500 use when it came out because it thought it was going to be real easy to work my lights with that and an iPad. WORNG! it's been sitting in my garage collecting dust. i don't understand dmx and i have not time to learn it.
ILS appears to be proprietary to Chauvet. Anyone adopting it will be committing to Chauvet for any upgrades. This shouldn't be a problem for mobile DJ rigs as Chauvet makes lots of good modestly priced stuff for the low end of the market. For any but the smallest club set up, the designer will want to use an open industry standard communication protocol so as not to limit themselves to a single vendor. DMX is an old protocal and it has it's limitations but it's in wide use with support from most lighting product companies. I'm guessing that the people who are responsible for the big stadium light shows have moved on from DMX to some other bidirectional protocol where the fixure can return status information to the control system. The big audio rigs have had that for years. Control software can let the operator know that a tweeter in a box high up on a rig is blown and needs to be replaced. With the right communications protocols in place, a control system could let an operator know that a discharge lamp in moving head was nearing failure.
"Ils for everyone" This is it. Having to own a gigbar just to control your other stuff is a turnoff.
Not worth it, gigbar shows are pretty crap with sound anyway so unless you ableton link or uses a reKordbox DMX1 it’s not mapped to tracks
Follower not slave? Follower mode
