The video went as far back as Gilbert Gottfried (and perhaps further) but not all the way back to *"George Carlin -* _Hitler got only one ball"_
.... which you can search for.
I grew up with re-runs of "Hogan's Heroes". The network wanted to make fun of the Nazis because? It works. Think of the trouble that this country would be in today without humor pointing out the absurdity that some swallow whole.
Hogan's Heroes was obviously well past the time of events and my classmates and I did get into trouble for acting out some of it BUT the Nazis were depicted as buffoons and Klemperer very specifically requested that of Colonel Klink's scripts because as a German, he was ashamed of the Nazis. Sargeant Schultz was a likeable buffoon and the setting was an American Prisoner of War Camp, which thanks to the Geneva Convention, was a far better place than where members of the Russian Army and the French Resistance were held (they were in the same camps as the Jews and subjected to the same treatment). Hogan's Heroes in fact, was based on the movie "Stalag 17" which itself was based on factual events.
Some humor is uncomfortable, some humor isn't helpful but humor is free speech and it is far, far better than hate.
