It's amazing how one non-review of Kanye from Fantano managed to upset the internet, despite the very well-reasoned position that it's near-impossible to separate the artist from the art in the case of Kanye during this recent streak of behavior and Nazi-sympathizing. Fantano did nothing wrong.
The issue is his trashing of the tracks on the album and his criticisms were completely biased. The “faults” he was pointing out weren’t even applicable. The album had really solid tracks but he was saying absolutely absurd shit that made zero sense about the songs.

The sad thing is that there is a point to the Twix thing. Ultra-processed foods are the number one reason that obesity rates have exploded all over the world. I feel like sometimes Kanye sees an actual problem going on, but then comes to these insane anti-semitic conclusion because he has no understanding of capitalist structures.
I really do think there is no greater argument for rich people being surronded by yes men than Kanye West. If he wasn't rich he would immediately face real life consequences, and probably have at least someone trying to get him into therapy.

"Separate the art from the artist" argument is funny here because two songs from the album featured chants from notoriously racist and far right supporter group called Ultras Curva Nord which supported Inter Milan. They have ties with Lazio supporters who are very far right. Lazio fans just did a Mussolini tribute while doing racist chant against a black player from AC Milan (inter Milan rivals). So yeah the notion of "separate the art from the artist" crumbled just like that.
No, it was from Inter Milan ultras, and I have found barely anything on them being racist as a whole. A small group was defending racism, that's it. And then you try to tie in another crazy fan base that has nothing to do with the chant. It's just a football chant that sounds fucking good.

I work in mental health and I will happily let everyone know that anti-Semitism is not in DSM-5-TR. Any such extremely public display of someone struggling with mental health can be incredibly sad, but these are 2 different matters at hand. I would venture to say the majority of individual living with persistent and serious mental health issues aren't racist, or certainly not openly racist at the very least. I am not saying the poster stated the two are intertwined in some sort of clinical way, but I think many people do blame all of this on mental health, and to some degree that is somewhat true, but these hateful ideas are not due to a mental health issue. These are ideas that Kanye obviously holds as true alongside having mental health struggles, not because of those issues from which he suffers. I think many apologists for Kanye try to conflate the two as an excuse when that just isn't the case.
Then again I do believe most of those Kanye apologists would just say or do anything to defend him because they either bought into a cult of personality, share the same anti-Semitic ideas, or very likely both of these possibilities.

The Burzum Kanye connection is actually crazy. If you look at the early Burzum covers and the cover of Vultures it’s literally a direct ripoff down to the font used. Who ever did that art knew exactly what they were doing. When I first saw the cover art, I did a quardruple take.

Even if you want to take the lazy approach of “separate the art from the artist!!!”, the art in question is still shit by Kanye’s standards. A lot of it is just rougher cuts of music he has made before, or just plain generic. There’s some cool ideas scattered throughout, but it usually falls flat at some point. Then you add the unapologetic attitude he has about his past rhetoric and BOOM; worst Kanye album.
Even if you for some reason excused the Kanye antisemitism arc, its just not good nor finished. No one has to die on this hill lmao

I do think his criticisms of the music on the album makes no sense which he expressed in tweets, and quite hypocritical since he says he wouldn't review his album because he's a nazi sympathizer (which is completely fine with me, and I think it's good that he does it), because when you're shitting on an album, you're reviewing it. The album is just a bit lukewarm from what I've heard (only the tracks with Peggy as producer), but the tracks have their highs and lows. It's a bit predictable stuff from Kanye, and indeed the mixing seems a bit off on a couple of tracks. But Fantano said he can't discern what part of the production comes from Peggy, which is bullshit, it's quite obvious that the tracks which were co-produced by Jpeg were co-produced by Jpeg, and he did a good job on it.
Probably y'all hate me for this, but it just seems a bit childish to shit on an album because you don't like the artist while saying that you wouldn't review it. Just don't listen to it then, like I did (partially).
