Springfield Armory Echelon: Polished New Comer!

- A highly rec'd review, the 24 oz SA Echelon comes to life on tabletop GRV. TD is here and that mean even more detours than usual. But it's fun and we are all here to have that. Then we do get down to reviewing the Echelon and tell you why the internet is NOT wrong on this one ha ha.
This is the company's first polymer frame, striker-fired pistol to be built around a modular design, with a removable serialized chassis trigger group that allows for some frame swap outs (that nobody does). It's built by Croatia by HS Produkt, the same dudes that put together the Hellion • Springfield Hellion Bu... .
We have so many great 9mm bullet launchers, GTW ready, and this is another one. Incorporating some of the best features from other pistols the Echelon gets many things right and breaks new ground (like its innovative no-adaptor-needed red dot mounting system). All the details like its chassis system, Melonite finish, ergos, CHF barrel, sights and more are covered here in TNP fashion...expect some laughs.
We did lots of shooting with this Gunnies loaned sample and the Echelon immediately impressed us. But did it hold up to the curse of the desert and standard TNP hard use and would we buy one? The competition is fierce and also excellent. Watch from start to finish this GRV for the "thrilling conclusion!"

Long term gesturing...I literally use a cheap China beam on new construction sites to show my run to foreman for fireplaces and to point at studs I need to cut ...it has changed my life ..😂
I'm still edc'ing a p365 and carrying different knifes and an o light s2r batton light..the i5Reos is also a great light..
can you do some more revolver reviews ?? more smiths / rugers etc
The Echelon is literally just a Glock 17 with everything on it that you don’t want on a Glock. Glocks are toothless and snagless, the Echelon is for range queens that don’t know what combat is.
Echelon is a must buy! Epic pistol from Croatia! Buy with confidence.
Red dot advocate here. I believe its the future and that all pistols should have the option at least. Training is the key. I didn't start carring mine until I had 1k+ down the pipe. Proper training on presentation and you wont be searching for the dot. You're also correct that 90%+ of gun owners don't shoot enough. My training diminshes in the winter months but the rest of the year I'm normally out every week practicing.
Totally agree except the future is already here.
@@bowencreer3922 while I agree they're not necessary, my point in them being the future is proven in the use of optics of all kinds in the military. The red dot or acog or lpvo or scope on a rifle just increases the hit probability and depending on which optic one uses it also removes more user error in sight alignment while keeping the same awareness of your surroundings. Necessary no..... better for pou yes (IMHO).

Love my Springfield Echelon! I had the pleasure to shoot one on Springfields launch day. Felt great in hand and 1st shop was bullseye and the rest were two inch groups. 2 days later I picked one up and it has been flawless! Springfield has a winner on its hand with this one!
I didn’t wait for your review to buy, I FOMO’d in at release. Zero regrets with my Echelon though. I have found the hype to be mostly justified. It’s solid and the best designed full sized poly/striker pistol out right now IMO. I just hope to hear of more aftermarket support next week at Shot Show.
That closing sequence was badass all one take, no edit. Definitely watch all the way to the end!!
These are great handguns. I have had one for about 7 months. I likely have only 600 to 700 rounds through it. No malfunctions so far. I went with the Holosun 507C. I like the optic idea. You train with it enough and finding the reticle is no longer an issue. Still trying to figure out a holster for it. I’m sure there will be a lot available soon. Safariland make a good one but I can not bring myself to spend over $250 on any kydex holster. Good review. Thanks
Thanks for the review nutn! Been a sub for over a decade now. Man I love this channel. I bought a PPQ after your review many years ago and now I own an Echelon. Keep up the good work!
Ive got zero issues concealing the Echelon at the 3 o'clock position IWB. Im 6 foot at 180lbs. Best gun released in a long time and at the price point. Can't be beat.
🍿
I like these reviews and we need the old Nutn tabletops to continue. There are so many new rifles like the Sig MCX Spear LT we need your take on the latest model, the Big boy Sig Spear, APC 556, DD M4A1 RIS III mid length, new Trijicon optics, Sig Rattler, Aeros new bolt action, etc. We want more Nutn!!!!
Also, I would say the main thing that is keeping me from getting a echelon is a CZ P-10f/c. On tfb tv the CZs CEO saying that there are major uodates coming to the p-10 series.
Any idea how long till the updates show up in the stores?
@@125varmawith how cz/dan wesson works expect 1-5 years
You'll still have to buy aftermarket optic plates and I would say the echelon has a better trigger, slide design, and iron sights.
@@alexmiller6848 Great point, for the majority of times I prefer having my slide milled instead of using plates for a deeper ride. Although trigger wise for me the P-10 is more defined. Most of all for the price any modifications I want to make ends up saving me money.
I love the arkfeld. I have a couple. So easy to carry every day. If keeping it in your pocket is the point it works. Love it! Highly recommended.
Plus my dogs love the laser. They chase it for 20 minutes before quitting
I like it too. I've had mine for 6 months now. Definitely more comfortable to carry than the SR2.
My cousin gave me that OLIGHT for Christmas a year ago... added it to my EDC, riding virtually unnoticed in my pocket next to my EDC knife... it has been AWESOME. phenomenal long run time and battery life. Bright enough for basic work (it's not going to look out a hundred yards)... and it's been through TSA dozens of times. I can't even count the number of times I've needed a light - in the past, I'd have reached for my phone (awful)... now, I have my OLIGHT. it's great.
if you cant draw your defensive handgun and immediately get the red dot on target or iron sights on target without cleanup, you need to practice more. a red dot simply shows your inadequacies as a shooter. dry fire practice, draw your handgun a 100 times a day for a few weeks and you should get the sights or dot on target without any need for cleanup. if you have a red dot, next step is to stand in a pitch black room where you cant see anything and dry fire practice draw. you should get the dot every single time, if you dont, you need to practice.
theres no excuse to not get your red dot instantly, without thinking about it every time you draw your handgun. it will vastly outperform iron sights in every scenario
Thanks Nut'n. Was waiting for your take on the Echelon. Can't get it in this wonderful state, but a guy can dream...
I'm very pleased with the Echelon, mainly because I was on the verge of finally buying a Glock - but then this was announced, & that VIS attachment system for optics totally sold me. Plus it shoots everything I feed it
I have a PDP 4 inch with full-size grip and I have the Echelon. The PDP stands head and shoulders above the Echelon. We won’t discuss reliability because most every major manufacturers is putting out very reliable plastic guns.
The Echelon’s ergonomics don’t stack up to the PDP. I have this weird anomaly on the echelon where the trigger safety blade pinches my finger on recoil. Accuracy is good, but I find PDP’s the accuracy just head and shoulders above the Echelon. With that said, the echelon is an amazing gun. I simply prefer, for lack of better words, the “creature comforts“ of the PDP. I personally place a huge premium on ergonomics and I just find the ergonomics on the PDP superior to most anything on the market much less the Echelon.
All of this, either the PDP or the Echelon, means that it is far superior than a factory offering from Glock. Yes, I know the Glock fan boys are gonna lose their mind over that statement, but it is true. If everybody in this country would just look at everything with an open mind . An open mind to change and evolution then things in the gun industry, politically and through society would be much better.
Random star war toy review by TD in the middle is great, funny, and adds charm to the channel.
Love mine ! Great shooter right out of the box. Added a Holosun 508t rd x2, night stick 550 xl light, and a stainless steel guide rod from NTZ. Cant wait to zero the red dot the weather straightens up!
The Echelon & Hellcat Pro are great pistols. I hope more aftermarket (Wilson Combat) come with more grip frames. I got the large grip frame w/ aggressive texture. It really made my Echelon one of my favorites right now. Totally agree with them listening & paying attention to what people want.
Great to see you again! Glad that you're back!
Once the 45 version gets dropped, if it's rated for Super, like the XD, it's an instant buy for me.
And 10mm 🙌
@@davidgolden1726 I could pass on .40S&W Long...
Tds sence of humor is on point for me. Holy crap, how fun.
9:45 I heard that before that, it feels special, like a gucci glock (colion noir) with the after-market cuts and the slide and a great trigger.
This is the most oh look a chicken video I’ve seen in a while. You never knew which way you were going to turn. A lot of damn fun. I ordered a SA Echelon so feel the trust.
Been watching since 2016. Thanks for the content 🙏
Excellent, review outstanding the best dynamic duo on you tube ,must have both all the time and you guys deserve by now 2 k fans. Kudos to NUTN family.
I switched to a arkfeld pro. For my edc and love it. I'm constantly trying to tell people in elevated work platforms what I want them to do on the job site and I spend a lot of time in hotels for work. Uv Lazer and 1300lm. It's like they made specially for me.
I bought two Echelons .
One for each hand.
After training, red dots on pistols not only increase accuracy, they increase speed from draw. Just need to get past the training scars. Just as red dots on rifles, people were slow to understand the benefits. But I would hazard to guess, I bet most people have red dots on their rifles. If I had a choice of irons or red dot on my carry firearm, I'm going with red dot. I'll deal with the battery and fogging for accuracy and view.
Totally over rated Imo
The Olight looks like an Apple remote.
I use this flashlight everyday. I'm a printer tech, the uv light is excellent the different ranges of flashlight work for multiple situations. The magnetic base is priceless and the laser is more fun than necessary. There are times brighter isn't better
Some traction work on the sides of the Arkfield and a rear press on switch and it would be a great EDC light.
I love being able to swap the frame on a handgun. I have multiple frames for my p365, p320, and Beretra apx. You can try different configurations and change colors without having to buy a new gun since with most handguns the frame is the "gun".
Love when TD joins. Ramblin makes it more fun
I am definitely a fan of Red dots on Pistols, but i am of the midset ot should be mounted at a height where the dot presents perfectly with your natural draw. The mounting system on the Echoleon will definitely save money. I have been getting my pistols milled for the most part.
Yeah, agreed. I'll pull out a G34 with irons and it's super fast to target super clean. Pull out a PDP (which has a fairly low mounting interface) with a 509T and it feels like there's such a busy, high presentation. direct to slide and or guns running SCS's feel Sooo much "cleaner".
Anxious to see your review of the What Would Stoner Do rifle, seems like a super-lightweight well made rifle in 5.56.
17:47 gotta strongly disagree uncle Nutn! RDS on pistols are the new standard and should be on every pistol in circulation!
The Arkfeld is my EDC flashlight. I have the UV / white light version. PERFECT.
28:29 Hey, I know this dude! Pretty sure I grabbed a In-n-Out burger with him and his fam once. He's a good guy and raising some awesome kids! Let's go shootin' next time bro!!
Great Review Fella's 👍
Great gun ! Looks amazing. As always tanks for the great review. Greetings from Argentina
Springfield Armory is a Leader in the Industry
Dude, got the Arkfeld Pro for Christmas. I love it. Just being brand myopic , and appreciating the purchase confirmation lol
I like the weltool t1. It's a tiny 14500 powered flashlight with 20,000 candela like a weaponlight. It can use a AA battery at reduced brightness too.
Would like to see a 357 version
Always the best videos. Dialogue is great.
Please check out the FN reflex! Internally hammer fired micro 9 with a sick trigger!
I love the light review in the beginning 😂 2 for 1
If you put a red dot on your pistol and train with it, it’s way faster than regular sights. Just go watch any pistol competition there’s a reason those guys run red dot. Way faster . If you put suppressor sights that co-witness that helps find the dot quicker until you learn how to present the gun and see the dot every time.
I have trained over 12 people on pews. First time pewers on iron sights; no one has hit paper at 100yards on their first mag. Give those same new pewers a fun with a red dot and they all get hits on paper at 100yards within their first mag. Irons suck ass and are obsolete but I still want them as back up.
@@almostontimehero5415 once you learn to acquire the dot quickly it’s so much faster than lining up sights plus you aren’t focused on your sights you can focus on the target. To each their own though. But I prefer a red dot myself. I have a g17 with a holosun 407 and a Surefire x300 that stays in my backpack. However my concealed carry pistol and m&p 2.0 9mm doesn’t have a red dot. It would if it had the optics cut which will likely happen in the near future lol
@@almostontimehero5415loll😂😂😂😂😂😂,ok
Agreed. Red dots on rifles are obviously superior yet there is still a debate going on about dots on pistols.
I enjoy tinkering with guns. My Carry is either a cr920 with a 507k or a pdp with a tlr1 and red dot and other things
That’s how I talk Spanish to the guys at work.I’ve had mine since the day 1 release and it’s going strong 0 issues except the laser sucks outside. Inside the laser is fine but I just point with the laser and say you understanda amigo
Wish it also was also an AM Radio 📻
The green laser on that little flashlight it's a huge win if you ever got lost Outdoors. The ability to lasso aircraft is a major advantage instead of just using the light.
Yeah, that comes with a felony rap, ugh..no, not wise !!
Got my dad an Arkfeld for his bday hope he likes it
I like the chassis system because i can get a cheap p320 and then later upgrade the grip module. Or because of things like the flux raider.
I think 1 lower and a bunch of uppers is dumb but I’m more a prepper and spare uppers do no one any good without lowers. One exception is i can carry a short 300blackout or 22lr upper in a pack and swap out if needed but that’s really not super practical.
I look at the chassis pistols as a roll your own base. Not too far off how a great many put together their own ideal AR. For this pistol, its the COG. For an AR, its the lower receiver. Yeah, unless your a movie assassin with a pelican case full of parts to configure as needed, you will likely assemble the pistol you prefer and not alter it.
I think we need more gun related marriage advice from TD 😂
Apex tactical makes a one sided magazine conversion kit for this pistol. Also they now have threaded pistol versions
This gun seemed to have “Blowouts” during firing in which all the bullets in the magazine blew out the bottom of the magazine rendering the gun useless when it’s most needed.
I saw that too. Upon investigation it was due to user error. Meaning, people who converted the 17 round mags to the extended 22 round installed the baseplate incorrectly. I bought the pistols and have had no issues with the mags, the original reviews or the ones I corretley converted. Super accurate pistol. Great traction all over the pistol, ergos, innovated and durable optics mounting system.
@@EricSaxe They should have designed the baseplate so it couldn't do that, because you have to build stuff for the dummies. But the dummies in a perfect world would have read, looked, and installed them correctly.
It’s a “ Murphy “
Awesome to see TD as always
We like TDs commentary 😂😂
I'm still too used to the Glock's aggressive grip angle and learned the U notch sights on Springfield's pistol don't work best for me. Otherwise a finely made pistol.
I use the arkfield daily, fits in a pocket organizer better than the baton and has the UV and laser.
I don’t get what makes this pistol any better than a G17 MOS
Chassis, grip angle, factory trigger, etc. all better offerings than Glock, but yeah if you’re looking for a revolutionary change this ain’t it.
That’s a weird way to say Glock 34.
I'm glad i got 2 sets of the TNP cadet
Why is doodle wearing a body cam through TSA?

@@12345678927164 evidence of what? Long lines and being yelled at for being too slow?
I took red dots off my carry pistols. Tritium night sights are my favorite. In low-light conditions, I did better with them. I only use red dots on my competition pistols. Just my take...
In a carry role they add a ton of height in a less than optimal location.
@morgan3688 that's what I was afraid of with my 365XL. I put the 507k on it and there is basically no printing difference.
When I want a new ar15 I build the upper first and shoot it on a lower I already have while I piece together a lower for it. I’ve found you do that 4-5 times a year you end up with an ar15 for every occasion and any situation 😂
Mutiple Uppers for AR15 make since when you live in certain states that aren't as free as others
It's called GRIP ZONE!!!
Aggressive isn't the best term to describe the serrations on the APX. I had an original and it was just ugly. The finger groves were a no go. The slide aesthetically was unpleasant, but the "chunky" serrations were kind of rounded over so they were deep but not sharp. Couple that with a slick finish and just was hard to rack. The APX A1 is way better. Nice neutral grip with no groves. Better serrations. Red dot capable, even though right now I'm not using a dot, and similar sights to this echelon
What if you want something other than 9mm?
I wish they would make the new service handguns in 40 and 45. I love and carry a 9mm but I enjoy the bigger handgun rounds too
@@grimeye1 Smith and Wesson SD 2.0 has a 40 s&w.
I know you love Olight, but every single one of mine has failed. All of them. I like their prices and designs but they all have failed for me. My mileage, as you say…
I know you been doing long range rifles. Look at the Q fix. I have one in 6.5 and I believe the rifle is 6lbs 3oz as a rifle. Sr2 mags and sub moa. Yeah not cheap but atleast no a cheap chassis rifle
I need a review on the Sig p226 legion sao
As both a shooter and guitarist, I very much appreciated the Schecter/B.C.Rich comparison. But as a car guy as well, I would like to throw in the new "Toyota" Supra....One of the most ridiculously over styled cars ever.
I've been looking into the Echelon lately. I kinda slept on it when it was first released. But it seems to be weathering the initial release issues that so many new firearms seem to be experiencing.
Arkfeld rocks...... The battery life is crazy long.
Hopefully it comes out in 40 s&w.
Any chance you’ll be reviewing any of the Staccato series of pistols?
Pole-ished 🤣😂 24:19
Did they fix the magazine base plate issue? I remember when it first came out, the base plate would come off.
But does it take Glock mags?
H&K USP all the way
Low bore axis = lower overall weight. My PPQ M1 feels portly these days… but the ambi mag release is an L. Refer to previous mentioned for only ambi design that should be used
The grip has a nice 5 o’clock shadow
Do you plan on doing a review of the Beretta M9A4?
I shoot about a 1000 rounds per yr, way down from when ammo was 8 dollars a box
Agree to disagree about Red Dots. They are simply faster. Its not about being better than Irons . They take some training gaining muscle memory. Pro's a dot is better greater than 25 yards. Con's no difference 25 yards in. Then Batteries. The hard thing to do is shooting Irons and Dots. With target focus not front sight, putting the dot in the way, the field of view is increased. What is interesting is the mount on the Echelon. Hey it will probably go the way of the do do's cause their goes some pennies of revenue. Springfield is addressing the changing tech on Red Dots right now. There really only needs to 2 max 3 foot prints. If Red Dots are ok on a rifle why not a pistol? When we get to forever battery Red Dots with windshield wipers on them we will be home. Or, Red Dots have not peaked yet and still going through transitional growth. The genie will not be stuffed back in the bottle on this one. One Thing I didn't hear Thankfully...Its a Glock Killer. 😃
Nuttin's right, it's BS carry gun no way, comp gun yes !
I would carry the smaller size. No light and dot. Of course, it would have to replace my P10C. I'll endeavor to try yet another Black polymer gun. Yawn...
I'll wait for the inevitable FDE version that TD thinks is overplayed.
Seems like it would come out in all the new hellion colors.
Great review and I love that you agree with me about red dots on pistols.😂 To me it’s like putting an lvpo on a double barrel coach gun. Just why?
I wish you could do a review of an original Beck tracker knife. That would be amazing. They’re heavy but, it’s an amazing tool to have in the bush.
It makes sense for police. Red dots allow them to keep all their focus on the suspect rather than on their front sight post. It's also much easier to get hits on long-distance shots that most non-police will never need to take.
do you pick up all your shell casings after shooting on public land?
I have red dot on my sig p365xl but on on p320 is night sights and my p30, fns 9 night sights
Yeeeee this is gonna be a good one.
Heavy, gtw sure. Def not gonna carry a 25 oz+ pistol these days. Lpac around here
