In Aug. 1989, my wife, daughter & I went to Four Corners & here I am watching your video that was filmed 30 years after our trip. The pictures I took of my daughter (2 arms in 2 states & 2 legs in 2 other states) shows only 2 small booths in the direction I was pointing. There was a little sno-cone hut. The Four Corners were elevated (2 steps leading up to it). I stood on a white painted wood balcony overlooking the corners to take the pictures. It was great seeing the major improvements to the site. Btw, our trip that year included stops in NM--Albuquerque, Tucamcari, Red Rock State Park (Gallup), Zuni Indian Reservation (south of Gallup); AZ--Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, Grand Canyon, Baby rocks (Kayenta), Four Corners, Mesa Verde Nat'l Park (Durango), Durango-Silverton train ride; NM--Santa Fe. Thanks for sharing your road trips.

Hi from the U.K. My wife and I have been fortunate enough to visit here twice, the first time in 1995, it's far more developed now and we didn't pay admission fees. The vendors were there though. Planning our first visit from home and using State maps we thought it was a community so it was a shock when we arrived late in the day to find, well, a monument and stalls. We decided to chance it and push on towards what turned out to be Cortez (bearing in mind that we only had a map of Arizona and we new how far it was to the nearest town). we found that casino first, but no accommodation here, and was told to "go down the road away". we new what that meant but pushed on and rolled into Cortez about 2 a.m. and found a motel.
It was all part of the fun and adventure for us. I agree and endorse the previous writers here and would say that a visit to Mesa Verde State Park is well worth the effort but be prepared for a long entrance road through great country. Great memories and we hope that we wil be able to experience it all again some day.

SAD ... When I was there as a child back in the 50's, there was just a concrete pad with a small dinner plate sized plaque in the center. Nothing else. While it's been spruced up to look nice now, it's still quite evident that it's more about commercialization and the money it can grab.

The fact remains that Four Corners is not where Congress tried to put it in 1863. The real spot, we can now see with GPS, is 1,807 feet to the west. The surveyors did not have the accuracy of GPS to find the exact location for the four corners.

Lots of neat places in NM - Taos, Socorro, Santa Fe, The Rio Grande River. So much to see! Then over to Arizonia; Tucson. Phoenix, and back home.

About 2 years ago I went to 4 Corners in early May. It was packed. There were dozens of vendors in those cubicles. There were people lined up from the place where the 4 states meet back to the cubicles and bending to the left in front of them, all waiting to get their picture taken. Next time you get up that way, make sure to check out Shiprock...the rock not the town. It's kinda east/southeast of 4 Corners back towards Farmington NM. I thought Shiprock was more impressive than 4 Corners.
