Re: Casino. The Las Vegas and Tonopah Railroad started running trains to Rhyolite in 1906. In the 1930s, the old depot became a casino and bar, and later it became a small museum and souvenir shop that stayed open into the 1970s.
In about 2008 we stopped at the Ghost Statues to take a few photos that was before the museum and some of the stuff that's in your video. After taking some shot went back to the car to find we had a flat tire....then the fun started,,, the spare tire was also flat.(some person had left loads of nails at the parking spot)). Well done car hire company from Vegas.. No phone signal back then did not help .But thanks to the fantastic people who were at the time looking after the Bottle House Clint & Ellie they looked after us for hours feeding us and in the end (long story))) Clint who was I think 80 years old took us back to the motel we were staying in at Stovepipe Wells. The car hire company made a bad job of sending us not a new tire but a replacement car. Took the truck drive about 8 hours from Vegas. Will always remember Clint & Ellie for what they did for us that day in their Airstream caravan. God bless them both. The area has changed a lot but the memories are with us forever. Thanks for posting your video. From England.
The profile picture is of montilius Beatty namesake of Beatty Nevada. Civil war vet. Did hydraulic gold mining in Madera before coming out. One of the first three white men in the area. Monty brought his farming skills out from Iowa. He married a Paute had three kids whom went to riverside indian school. Monty is my grandmother's great uncle.
The Casino was originally the railway station, at one time 4 different railroads passed through. It only latter became a casino and much latter still a gift shop. The tall building was a bank. I first visited in 1986, at that time you could walk right up to the buildings and even onto the railway platform - nothing was fenced.
Hey Russ,I'm still jealous being stuck at home. Keep on trucking, safe travels
Another excellent video from the unofficial Mayor of Quartzsite! 😉 Thanks Russ 👍
Thank you Russ for your ongoing trips we can share. How nice it is to see all the beautiful art our creative humans seem to partake in....We truly are blessed in our lives with the creations of those that have that type of mind, spirit, and insight. Those pieces of Art like the Last supper where something else, and the bottle house, how gracious and light that must be. Colin and I so appreciate your camera work...We send our deepest gratitude for your unique specialties Thank you Russ and a big wave from your friends, Carolyn and Colin Hogarth in Osoyoos B.C. Canada.
Want to say thank you Russ for taking us along with you on your traveling adventures.

sunday afternoon, got corned beef and cabbage and taters in the instant pot..and find a Russ video.
We've been to Rhyolite 3 or 4 times over the years when visiting Furnace Creek ranch. The tall building was the bank and the store front across the street from it was the hardware store. If you had slowed down you could of looked in the basement of the hardware store while standing on the metel grate just in front of the store. The building at the top of the road was a train station, not a casino, There was also the old jailhouse that you could look into if you had taken your time, it was right down one of the dirt roads. You get excited about going place, then you just blow right through them without taking your time. Too bad, you miss alot in your videos.
Every time you said “were climbing straight up this mountain “ my ears popped. To kewl for school lol.
Russ, your sense of wonderment as you explore on your travels is most refreshing. Your voice exhibits how you are enthralled by what you are seeing, and your desire to share it with your viewers. Thank you and "keep trucking."
More Great Adventures ~ as you leave Death Valley ~ heading to Nevada ~
I am really enjoying joining you on your trip. Last time I was on Daylight Pass I froze. My riding buddy and I rode our bikes in the dark and it was under 40 degrees in February going into Beatty. I really like your rig. I have decided to go that route when I retire. You can put it into regular car parking spots.
Hey Russ, of course you're climbing up Daylight Pass Road. You're leaving Death Valley, the lowest point on the North American continent. Everything is up from there!
I thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the trek through Rhyolite, NV. Enroute to Rhyolite, I drove through Beatty. After leaving Rhyolite, I drove through Death Valley and stopped to see Bad Water. After leaving Death Valley, it was time to head back to Las Vegas.
You must get a lot of people saying how envious they are. Here's one more. What you do is what I hope for me
Great trip. I am enjoying you videos. Thanks for sharing. Be safe!
