All I can say is this. Marquez looked at Manny like his lifetime rival. He prepared with single goal of defeating him at least once. For manny it never was about Marquez. JMM was just another opponent. His career was much more versatile, vast and varied.
Marquez was a great champion no dispute. But Manny was the pinnacle of sport of boxing and a modern day great. Manny sits at the absolute top of the mount rushmore of modern day boxing along with Floyd. He just had a stylistically & psychologically bad matchup in JMM. Just like Lennox lewis had Oliver Mccall and Mike Tyson had Douglas. We never say Douglas is a better boxer than Mike. So except for this matchup, Manny is way ahead of JMM both in skills and accomplishments. So congrats to JMM for his KO victory over manny, but he will never be considered equal with Manny by generations to come.
Disclamer: In the last 30 years, My #1 favourite boxer was & still is Manny Pacquiao followed closely by Bud Crawford.

Even Pac knows he didnt win the way he wanted. His face and body language says it all. He walks quietly after the 12th round, and then didn't celebrate much. The only right score is 114-114 or 115-113. This is prolly why Pac accepted a 4th fight, which ultimately ended in his demise. Greatest rivalry.

Marquez fan here, but I thought Pacquiao won this fight. Marquez may have the harder punches, but Pacquiao outnumbered him by a huge amount of punches. I honestly don't think this was a robbery because Pacquiao outboxed Marquez by almost 40 punches and he had ring generalship in most of the rounds.

If you've only watched this fight once or twice, it's seems like a draw or could go either way. But Pacquiao landed way more shots than people realize. His speed and the volume of his punches was hard to keep track of. Like Lederman said in the middle of the fight, someone was getting hit a lot and getting puffy and someone wasn't.

I have to agree with you. At first I thought Marquez won unanimously. But after rewatching the fight over and over again, I now had Pacquiao winning. I think most people didn't give Pacquiao's punches some credit. I even saw fellow Mexicans in the comments saying that Pacquiao was hitting air, but I didn't agree with them because I literally saw lots of Pacquiao's punches hitting Marquez.
I gave Pacquiao rounds 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 11, 12. While I gave Marquez rounds 1, 5, 7, 8, 10. But you still can't deny that this was a very close fight.

He outworked him with counterpunching, defense and a whole lot of lateral movement. Just couldn't get the power shots to land clean enough to hurt Marquez; which gave the impression of a drawish fight. Marquez took quite a lot with Pacquiao's sneaky left straight. Not as a power shot but more like a jab. Marquez could never predict when those would just snap his head back. I gave Manny the 1st round as well but maybe not the 11th.

I had it 115-113 JJM, JJM countered beautifully and was patience and Manny even though having his moments didn't throw the more impactful shoots.
Perhaps I only watching Marquez counter 😆 Pacquiao landed more significant hits evidence of Marquez more busted swollen face but Pac looks fresher, tho both r hardhitters and it's not easy to catch an eye on Pacquiao unusual punching style
