Dan Hampton Ultimate NFL Career Highlights

  • Hall of Famer Dan Hampton was the heart and soul of the Chicago Bears defense of the 1980s. He didn't put up gaudy numbers like Richard Dent due to the nature of his position, nor was he as vocal of a leader as Singletary, but his consistent play and toughness set the physical tone that made the Bears infamous. He was capable of playing anywhere on the line and was always willing to be used where needed, whether that be on the edge as a potent power rusher, or head up on the center stuffing the run.

    Easily one of the most underrated players ever. He was the key to that defense. Incredible quickness off the block and consistency great on the run and attacking the QB. He was masterclass and had no weaknesses. Just a tremendous, tremendous, player.

    Dan Hampton was a true Monster of the Midway, he was indomitable. “Danimal” played with multiple scopes on each knee to the point he had no cartilage left and still dominated his position both as defensive tackle and end. One of the greatest Chicago Bears ever along with Steve “Mongo” McMichael and Mike “Samurai” Singletary... 🤔🤨😋👍

    Dan is very good people too. I was around when the legends (Hampton, Payton and Perry) were having their surgeries (scopes). It was an honor to have a conversation with him.....and his wife at the time, Terry.

    They talk about the different era. Hampton could still play in the same style today. He never sought to punish; only to bring the man down. Notice that he doesn’t drive his weight into the man. When it’s sure he’s down, he breaks his own fall or rolls off.

      There are almost no celebrations today. I’m almost 60 and the era of celebrations was the 80’s and 90’s ushered in with players like Gastineau and Billy Johnson. Hampton was workmanlike and an absolute stud on one of the greatest defenses of all time.

    A lot of attention is paid to the 46 defense. The key to making that defense work, and in 1985 it was the best defense of all time, was pressure from the defensive line. That pressure came from hall-of-famers Dan Hampton and Richard Dent. Mcmichael and Perry weren't too shabby either. For that matter, the entire defense could make the pro bowl

    • @romanobears3470
      @romanobears3470 Před rokem +1

      McMichael not too shabby? Check stats on McMichaels sacks all time for defensive tackles the year he retired. Borderline HOFer bro.

    • @carlweaver3243
      @carlweaver3243 Před rokem +1

      That 46 Defense worked because of Dan Hampton and Steve McMichael. Mike Singletary and Richard Dent reaped huge benefits from the sacrifices of those two. I don't know why McMichael is not in the HOF. His Stats prove that He belongs in there with the other three.

    • @carymiller2403
      @carymiller2403 Před rokem +1

      @@romanobears3470 McMichael was certainly HOF caliber. Dika called him the toughest player on the team. To be fair, some of McMichael's success came because Hampton was being double teamed by the offensive line.

    These are really boring to watch. You get no sense of the action or athletic ability, strength etc when it is in super-slomo. No excitement of game situation with no live sound or announcers... It it were just one or two peppered in that might work for dramatic effect, but not when it's the entire video.

    So, great story. About 20 years ago, my brother went to a meet and greet with Hampton. He had always been my brothers favorite player. Anyways, he got in line to get an autograph picture from #99. When it was finally his turn, he referred to Hampton as "Danster". Hampton looked at him like he was a clueless moron. My brother started laughing and mentioned how during a game John Madden was comparing Hampton with the Cowboys Randy White. He stated that Whites nickname was "Manster". Part man, part monster. He goes on to refer to Hampton as "Danster". Part Dan, part monster. Anyways, my brother then called him "Danimal", which was his correct nickname. Hampton laughed about the whole thing. He then signed his autograph with "Danster"!! I am probably the only person with an authentic Dan Hampton autographed picture in which he intentionally wrote the wrong nickname on it. It is still hanging up in my bar to this day. Just shows what a great guy Hampton is, and what a great sense of humor he has. Long live the 85 Bears. The greatest team of all time.
