Imagine hearing that after almost 20 years your favorite game was going to get remade. Imagine knowing that Arthas vs Illidan was originally supposed to be a full-blown cinematic that wasn't made due to time and budget constraints. Imagine hoping that after all those years, Blizzard, widely known for the amazing quality of their cinematics, would do this scene justice, letting us see Arthas vs Illidan in all its cinematic glory. Imagine then playing the game and seeing this as the result of all that anticipation.
I have known this sad fact as well, and I have made sure to mention it in any video that even has a blip of this scene. Thank you for helping spread the good, but sad word.

The ending of the cutscene should have been a dude in the bath playing with his Arthas and Illidan action figures. It would make the stiff animations believable at least.
Tbh there is nothing in it. Bad Sound, stiff animations, lame fighting. Those 2 used to be super powerful and Illidan just gets 2 hitted. Also the smile from Arthas at the start, that is horrible he doesn't look like a badass, more like a drug addicted rapist.
Power of Sargearas (since he made the legion) against the power of The Jailer (since he made the "The Lich King" role, the Crown of Domination, Frostmourne, which made the Scourge.). You'd have thought the battle flow wouldn't be as weird.
I was mad that Illidan got hit in the first one, I thought he disengaged to go defensive and couldnt defend which always was weird to me. This one does feel like it's missing a lot of beats.
this is like a freebie tho, they said they don't plan on reforging any of the cinamatics and I was not expecting them to do this at all either. so I can't complain for one bonus reforged cinematic they gave us outside of what they told us when I pre-purchased the game.

Does it not look like plastic figurines animated? like 1:13 That entire scene somehow looks like some sort of stop motion animation. The entire thing is so far in the frikin uncanny valley for me that its ridiculous. This is not regular 3d animation for sure, they somehow cut down the time on making it and this was the end result, and frankly id prefer the frikin original w3 shait over this cringe.

The original was a 30 second battle, which you would think is more normal since it's a 1 shot kill situation, but in this for some reason they prolonged it so illidan can growl and then use his HANDS in a sword fight... i... don't understand

Well spotted. You shaved a quarter off the runtime. As long as we're min/maxing, bump it up to 1.5. Since they didn't bother composing a score or recording any dialogue they look like they're actually strong enough to wield their respective weapons and the grunting sounds aren't too cartoony.
They really had a chance to make an amazing fight here that we could of only dreamed in the modified for time one in the original, but we got this instead.
This is a perfect representation of what Reforged is all about; fall way short of what was promised by gutting everything that people loved and throw some bizarre HD skins on it. I watched the original and it was so much more believable (despite the characters barely having hands) because they actually moved like they didn't want to get cut by the other guy
So let me get this straight. Illidan disarms Arthas, who's a step in front of him, with Arthas throwing his hands up in the air. Yet Arthas somehow makes it back to his sword with Illidan in tow. Now please make me believe ILLIDAN STORMRAGE, a NIGHT ELF DEMON with WINGS AND HOOVES is SLOWER than a VERY LOW ON POWER (remember the campaign!) DEATH KNIGHT that needed to both DO A 180 AND RUN AND DO ANOTHER 180 BACK TO HIS OPPONENT. Excuse me what?
Arthas was obv. using his E (Frozen Tempest). Illidan's useless against that, even with the speed boost Metamorphosis gets at 20. Plus the Illidan player was a noob. Overusing Dive limited his DPS while he only used one Sweeping Strike to engage. Missed the Evasion on Arthas' final AA. Scrub.
There is exactly one thing that I like in this: Illidan moving very slightly after his defeat. Great way to foreshadow that he will still be alive and kicking in WoW. The original made it look like he was 100% dead due to low poly count (and possibly because there were no plans to bring him back yet).
To be fair this is quite an atrocious example where the actual game its being remastered from has a better cinematic cutscene... It's just another game in the pile of disappoints recently released. Through to even fairer, they honestly should have seen this coming with Activision in the mix and only have their own sleds to blame for buying trash.
I like how Arthas cut right through Illidan, but when Turalion tried to slay Illidan in the legion cinematic he just grabbed the blade like it was barely anything. Goes to show what kinda power Arthas had. And he wasn't even the true lich king yet at this time, I believe the open gate area that Arthas proceeded to is where he gets the helm.

This is what my €40 went towards, I have literally helped fund the death and reforge of my first Blizzard game... At least it seems that they let their intern film students work on their first project by animating this video for us. It's a nice touch they didn't add any battle music as well - really lets the awkwardness flow that much better.
How can something look so good yet so bad at the same time? As stills, the models look beautiful. As an animation, this looks like some vfx college student's project
The lack of music really murdered the tension. It added a lot to the original fight, even though it was shorter and not as well animated. You still got sucked into that fight, and it didn't feel like they were running around with 2 ton weights either.

At least it clarifies the Lore...Arthas was supposed to have 0% chance to win on his own, but seeing how the blade is shining at the end, I suppose that the few of the power the Lich King had left and gave to Arthas did more than just giving back Arthas' former strength
The animations are slow and have no weight behind them, so it feels like 2 action figures fighting in slow motion. The increased length of the fight also highlights how much it needed some dialogue. It feels uncharacteristic for both Arthas and Illidan to be so quiet during a fight.
Watching it at 1.25 speed actually improves it a lot. The characters are faster so it feels more like a real fight. And while there still isn't any dialogue, it atleast reduces the length of the awkward pauses.
aparently in the novel Illidan even told arthas something like : ''Fool, i have trained with these warglaves for thousands of years. how long did you train with your precious sword ?'' or something along those lines. imagine a scene where illidan flies into the air and hovers while he boasts about his training like '' oh yea, i have trained so haarrd''
@@Titi-pu2hl Well... it's actually was even clunkier since they used the in-game engine for that cut-scene, which wasn't great for an elaborate close-up fight.
The biggest insult is the missed execution and waste of potential. With this new animation style the fights could be more impactful with every swing and every camera angle. But instead we get the same camera focus on Arthus' boot when sliding back and not a full body shot. The killing blow was the same, black fade out with glowing blue sword to black screen with a cut through.
Aside from the lack of music, this is perfect, though it's weird If they don't have the conversation of "The Frozen Throne is mine, demon. Step aside. Leave this world" They're supposed to say that a cutscene before this but now Arthas appears and then illidan comes down when they should already be talking to each other, so does that not happen? It makes sense they don't talk in the fight because everything has been said but thats why they talk before it starts
Something I only just realized about this battle between Arthas and Illidan. Arthas has Frostborne, the weapon of the Lich King that turned Arthas into a Death Knight. The Lich King was formerly Ner'Zhul the Orc Shaman and Chieftan who tricked into letting the Horde be bound to the Burning Legion. Illidan 's demonic power came from the Skull of Gul'Dan which turned him into a Demon. Gul'Dan was the Orc Warlock who betrayed Ner'Zhul and the Horde to help the Burning Legion and was also responsible for the Orc's corruption. So in a way, this fight could almost be interpreted as Ner'Zhul Vs Gul'Dan.

Now since none of the original people no longer work at Blizzard (if hardly any) the company itself changed, where even some of the original Blizzard staff (like Diablo's creator) said it changed completely. They hired a Malaysian company "Lemon Sky Studios" to actually develop Warcraft 3 reforge... The old Blizzard would of never pulled that move. The crap pisses me off...

He wasnt low on power if you remember the Lich King gave his remaining powers to him to at the start of the mission, he goes back to lvl 10.

The movements are so stiff.
It amuses me that the slow-mo section where Arthas dodges Illidans attack looks the same speed as the rest of the fight.
You can tell by the lack of hair physics in Arthas' hair that Blizzard dropped the ball with this version.

I like how Arthas cut right through Illidan, but when Turalion tried to slay Illidan in the legion cinematic he just grabbed the blade like it was barely anything.
Goes to show what kinda power Arthas had. And he wasn't even the true lich king yet at this time, I believe the open gate area that Arthas proceeded to is where he gets the helm.

@@rcblazer since i didn't remember at all what it was like, i went to watch that and i find the rumors greatly exaggerated. come on, this is bad but the old one is like 15 second long, nothing happens and it has bad camerawork and terrible original war3 graphics. i thought it was an actual cinematic from the way people are talking about it.
Missing music and lack of good editing, the fight sits, there is no point to make it longer if you cannot fill it with actual immersive content.
They retconned the hell out of this fight, in the original Illidan getting his ass handed to him the entire 30 second fight, he was on his back after the first swing.
Up to now every time I heard that the original was better my response was... "Yah. I din't like reforged too." But now that I've re-watched the old fight I'm actually amazed by how it really is better. 😂
Even machinimas have less stiff animations, never again outsource your games
It's like anime fight, without music with short breaks every few seconds and then you realize they swung their weapons maybe five times.

This is what my €40 went towards, I have literally helped fund the death and reforge of my first Blizzard game... At least it seems that they let their intern film students work on their first project by animating this video for us. It's a nice touch they didn't add any battle music as well - really lets the awkwardness flow that much better.

As stills, the models look beautiful. As an animation, this looks like some vfx college student's project
The lack of music really murdered the tension. It added a lot to the original fight, even though it was shorter and not as well animated. You still got sucked into that fight, and it didn't feel like they were running around with 2 ton weights either.

Bernhart Schmieder all the graphics was made by a company named lemon sky . They are asians. So blizzard have put a really little effort in this game

As an asian, I have to agree: Give us the old Blizzard with their high quality products, I dont want to see shitty anime-fights with plot-holes big enough for Sargaera's sword to punch through.

Even compared to Blizzard's weaker efforts, the entire execution of this 'reforged' cutscene feels shockingly sloppy, weightless and tension-lite.
It feels like it was unironically made by an indie company. I've seen better remakes of this fight from fans on youtube...*much* better remakes

every time I remember that these two used to be respected heroes that became like this. It makes me wonder what kind of villain the warden could've been.

At least it clarifies the Lore...Arthas was supposed to have 0% chance to win on his own, but seeing how the blade is shining at the end, I suppose that the few of the power the Lich King had left and gave to Arthas did more than just giving back Arthas' former strength
The animations are slow and have no weight behind them, so it feels like 2 action figures fighting in slow motion.
The increased length of the fight also highlights how much it needed some dialogue. It feels uncharacteristic for both Arthas and Illidan to be so quiet during a fight.
Watching it at 1.25 speed actually improves it a lot. The characters are faster so it feels more like a real fight. And while there still isn't any dialogue, it atleast reduces the length of the awkward pauses.
Why Illidan don't cutting him 1:00 and let him go ???

aparently in the novel Illidan even told arthas something like : ''Fool, i have trained with these warglaves for thousands of years. how long did you train with your precious sword ?'' or something along those lines. imagine a scene where illidan flies into the air and hovers while he boasts about his training like '' oh yea, i have trained so haarrd''

TBH in the original, they barely did anything in the fight: both do long swords friction, Illidan do a backflip, Arthas do a swing, and it's over.

@@Titi-pu2hl Well... it's actually was even clunkier since they used the in-game engine for that cut-scene, which wasn't great for an elaborate close-up fight.
The biggest insult is the missed execution and waste of potential. With this new animation style the fights could be more impactful with every swing and every camera angle. But instead we get the same camera focus on Arthus' boot when sliding back and not a full body shot. The killing blow was the same, black fade out with glowing blue sword to black screen with a cut through.

Aside from the lack of music, this is perfect, though it's weird If they don't have the conversation of "The Frozen Throne is mine, demon. Step aside. Leave this world" They're supposed to say that a cutscene before this but now Arthas appears and then illidan comes down when they should already be talking to each other, so does that not happen? It makes sense they don't talk in the fight because everything has been said but thats why they talk before it starts

Something I only just realized about this battle between Arthas and Illidan. Arthas has Frostborne, the weapon of the Lich King that turned Arthas into a Death Knight. The Lich King was formerly Ner'Zhul the Orc Shaman and Chieftan who tricked into letting the Horde be bound to the Burning Legion. Illidan 's demonic power came from the Skull of Gul'Dan which turned him into a Demon. Gul'Dan was the Orc Warlock who betrayed Ner'Zhul and the Horde to help the Burning Legion and was also responsible for the Orc's corruption. So in a way, this fight could almost be interpreted as Ner'Zhul Vs Gul'Dan.
The one detail of this “remaster” I do like is that after Arthas cuts Illidan he doesn’t even bother to look back at him.

Now since none of the original people no longer work at Blizzard (if hardly any) the company itself changed, where even some of the original Blizzard staff (like Diablo's creator) said it changed completely. They hired a Malaysian company "Lemon Sky Studios" to actually develop Warcraft 3 reforge... The old Blizzard would of never pulled that move. The crap pisses me off...
