I have a 2006 FZ1S and it stopped starting on the button. It turns over but doesn't fire and catch. I can get it going if I bump start it down a hill and then it starts when it is warm. Do you think replacing the spark plugs or cleaning them will fix it? Cheers

Your generator rotor may be going.
      All 04-08 R1's, 2011-2014 FZ8's and 2006-2014 FZ1's have this issue.
Search FZ1 generator rotor issue and you'll find a lot of people with this issue.

Just bought an 09 fz1 and didn’t don’t know history ….so first thing I order is a stator rotor from rm stator after seeing this issue happening / suggested over and over again on every search I did .

      @@vicpnut1 I wouldn't give yamaha $400-$600 for a new OEM one.
They should have recalled the bike and should have fixed it but didn't. You are doing the right thing by replacing that hand grenade before it destroys your engine.

@@westondifranco9313 yeah it may have already been done for all I know . But I’m not taking that chance since I got it from a used bike dealer out of state … just waiting for north east (Connecticut)to warm up enough to get to it …. I gotta do it first thing , I haven’t ridden in a couple decades so I know the more I put it off the more likely I’ll keep putting it off … and anytime the temps near 50*’s I start getting the itch already lol…but , I don’t want to be stuck across state (or anywhere for that matter )& chance a total breakdown of the rotor magnets causing more internal headaches ..

Even after get radiator unbolted still a little tight on the right side, I just end up to unplug big coolant hose what it made a big difference.

just remove it altogether IMHO. You should replace coolant at the same rate as plugs anyway.

I went in through the top on fz6. Im wondering if this way would of been easier

on the fz1 it's super impractical to remove the tank and airbox just for plugs...just drain the radiator and remove it IMHO. Save your knuckles the agony.

i can bit understand why they made it so stupidly hard. last time it took me a whole afternoon to change them 🤣

  • @vicpnut1

The cost of bikes becoming water cooled, the radiator is gonna get in the way …😜

Yeah i know ,seems its warmed to fan temps before i leave the driveway some mornings….makes me wonder how the bikes i had from the 80’s ever lasted being aircooled

different compression ratios. Waaay more oil cooling the heads back then as well. @@vicpnut1
