- JFRD responded to a commercial vehicle fire near downtown Jacksonville. Black smoke was visible for miles as the cab of this truck was consumed in fire. Fortunately the driver got out of the vehicle safely.
Although smoke was visible for miles, access to this fire was a bit tricky as the I-10 eastbound lanes to I-95 north split, and there are two different options of travel separate from each other.
As crews approached the scene, multiple vehicles chose to drive past the burning truck with little to no visibility through thick black smoke. This act is dangerous to those drivers as they do not know what is on the other side, also dangerous traveling through such toxic smoke, and dangerous for first responders as they are not well protected on the other side.
After the truck was extinguished, the hazmat team was called to pump off the remaining diesel fuel in the saddle tank. The top half of the saddle tank melted in the extreme heat of the fire.
City BIO was called to check the water run off to protect the environment.
There were no injuries due to this fire...the driver got out and got a safe distance from the vehicle and away from the traffic. The contents of the truck were none hazardous materials and the truck was opened up and hosed down.
Units responding:
Fire 1 & 4
Engines 10, 5, and 7
Ladders 1 and 10
Rescue 10
Squad 14
Hazmat 7
Tanker 57
Training 10

Loved it when one of the FFs turned the leaking hose around so that it was spraying down the fire! 😂
Good use of water with broken hose.
Called a supplemental attack.

Excellent video! Well handled and incident command did a great job. As for Taco Bell not being Haz Mat….. It is when I eat it…
Thank you...he is a great chief...new video featuring him as IC coming real soon...
"As for Taco Bell not being Haz Mat….. It is when I eat it…". or soon after right????
I was work at Taco Bell for five days and I saw that items are burning like hell
0:01 The individuals maneuvering through the billowing black smoke risked unknowingly plunging into a raging inferno, oblivious to the peril that awaited them beyond.
A lot of unknown for sure.
its just a burning truck
I like listening to them communicating with each other, knowing exactly what needs to be done, knowing where to place each engine and working together calmly so no one gets hurt and they get it done as a team. My cousin was an EMS Tech and Firefighter for Waco,Tx FD and told me how things get done. Thank you all and May Our lord Bless you all and keeps you safe.
It is definitely a team effort and these men and women work hard to protect this city.
One of the best fire channels i have came across. And i love how you all have the radio traffic included 💯💯
Sorry I cannot sync with the video, but truly important to see the whole picture! Thanks....
If your next taco is a little crispy, you'll know where it came from. LOL
facts
First the say no hazmat, then they say it's Taco Bell food. Isn't that a bit of a contradiction?😜
lol
🤣🤣
R.I.P taco bell and bbq sauce
The shipment was for Taco Bell? That makes it a toxic waste fire!
Wow!😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Any vehicle that’s made with resin-coated fiberglass is a nightmare to extinguish, plus they burn hot. Kudos to the firefighters who put their lives on the line for any fire, especially tractor-trailers. Question: Why would anyone drive through black smoke, not knowing the extent of the fire? Overwhelmingly stupid. Could also melt the plastic pannels off of a car. I’ve seen haz-mat tankers drive by fires such as these…kinda scary! Another great video! Had to be hot as hell even at your proximity.
Getting it out wasn't really an issue, getting to it was...I am shocked how many drove through it blindly and had to stay clear as to not get hit...it did get a little warm.
You shouldn't be putting your life on the line for a vehicle fire...
Very good communication brief and very clear
He is top notch...stay tuned for another video release with him in charge
That is really something using a deck gun on a truck fire. I love deck guns.
Didn't want to empty the contents on the street and we couldn't climb deep in there...but knew it was hot and burning.
@@thejfrd2490 Were you able to hook up to water supplies or did you use tankers?
@@davidglaum2538 tanker
You all are very brave❤
thanks
would love to see dash cam footage of the response
From what vehicle?
I understand the truck burning🤔how did the fire get inside the sealed metal container? 😊Great job y’all! Stay safe out there💕🙏
It is called heat...the fire on the metal got hot enough.
@@thejfrd2490 Conduction to be specific...
Yep, as soon as I saw the red pallets and he said Taco Bell I knew it was from our GPI plant/warehouse. They are just cardboard food trays. No biggie, we have a lot more in stock to replace this load. Any amount of smoke or water damage renders the entire load trash. So now if I see a rush on this product, I'll know why. As we do not load container boxes at our facility, I assume this was transloaded at another warehouse for export to Taco Bell restaurants outside of the U.S.
The blessing is...no one was hurt! Especially the driver.
@@thejfrd2490 - It's just strange that since the advent of all this emissions control equipment on today's diesel engines, there has been a massive increase of heavy truck fires. Between that and electric vehicle fires, I imagine most fire departments across the country stay pretty occupied chasing all this new technology designed failures.
Great job JFRD --- Debbie
Thanks for watching Debbie
At first i thought it was a ...a ...a beer truck on fire ! I was thinking , NO ! NOT A PRECIOUS BEER TRUCK ! But it wasn't so i enjoyed the video.
Save the BEER!
Chief Griggs😂 can’t miss that hair do.
love it
Is that the man with the attractive white hair? Because that’s some nice hair.
How many times do you have to ask someone to open the back of the truck? But great video!!
I think he was trying to assure it got done sooner than later...but crews were still arriving on scene...So I believe you are miss understanding it...he is a very experienced and smart chief on the department.
I would've definitely started a second tanker, especially when you have NO idea of what's in the truck yet. You can always cancel a truck easier than you can get one responding.
We had 3 on the initial dispatch...
@@thejfrd2490 That's the way to do it.
@@ffjsb sure is

4:55 To whoever that is who figured out a way to turn lemons into lemonade, huge respect. Something tells me that's a crayon eater right there. If so, sempre fi, brother!
I was impressed as well.
Taco Bell aka toxic hell. Might as well be hazmat lol 😅
Some people like it....
Hence the nickname " taco bowel " 🤣
Taco Belch.
R.I.P. Taco Bell Food and BBQ Sauce @5:52 Extra Smokey Flavor?!
it could have been worse.
Who knew Taco Bell was so explosive even before you eat it!
This is what happens with their FIRE sauce!
ok
Those cars driving by got heated up on passenger side 😳 😬
I know how hot it was from where I was.
Wow
crazy
Taco Bell food doesn't usually release toxic fumes until an hour or so after consumption.
facts
👍👍👍
crazy
That hot taco sauce just got extra hot 🔥 😅
Fire sauce!
it was hot alright
Testament to how truly stupid we humans are. Oh I know, let's just drive right on thru that thick black, blinding smoke. Amazing
not the best idea, agreed
Cant believe thise idiots driving by thru the smoke😮😮
Not a very smart move...
No professional fire department, or fire officer would attack that fire without first determining what the cargo is. That’s why they make binoculars. Stay back and make an assessment. Not to mention most of them are not wearing breathing apparatus.
Is that right? Thanks for your input
Taco Bell hahaha
Taco Belch!
a little crispy
Lunch will be served on the expressway
not likely
Who broke the hose lol
Pretty sure it got burnt
Now I know why my tacos tasted like smoked beef
good one
Oh no not Taco Bell!!!! 😢
oh yes
I suppose the fire department will either get a new water hose or use some duct tape or Gorilla glue on the leak 🤔 good 👍
new hose it is!!
@THEJFRD , and to putting out fires!! This brings back memories when I was a kid. Our water hose did the same thing
It's called a fog nozzle for a reason rookies.
Rookies? I'm sorry, the fire was put out quickly with no injuries...what is the problem with that?
