Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department responds to a fire at a landfill that goes 2nd alarm

- JFRD responded to a fire at a landfill. With heavy winds and dry conditions, a second alarm was called as this became a very manpower intensive battle.
There were no structures involved, and no lives in imminent danger, but this fire had to be dealt with. Multiple engines were needed along with ladder crews to put their ladder pipe to work.
Because there were no hydrants nearby, ponds were used to draft from, and a relay pump system was put in place to supply the ladder and engines.
These are not the glamorous fires to work, but necessary just the same.

And thanks for watching...
Know what those kinds of fire are like, when I was a volunteer
We had a underground fire at our landfill it's been burning for years. Every once in a while the fire would brake out and we'd have to go put it out until next time.
Thank you to all firefighters everywhere for protecting the citizens of your coverage area.
Appreciate your support and your service to your community.
Always a good opportunity for training the newer members in different equipment.
controlled training...yes
Awesome coverage. Not a job these firefighters do is glamorous and all are dangerous. Thanks for showing a different type of fire these men and women have to deal with. God Bless them all...🤗🤗
thanks for watching
I need a bath after watching this
Go scrub up
hard job to do but it has got to be done God Bless Brother Fire Fighters from a Retired Forest Fire Fighter
it does have to be done...you're right
Fantastic footage. That was a hard fire 🔥 to put out. You never know how deep the fire goes, and that dozer driver did an excellent job of moving the burning trash,so that the firefighters could get water on it right away. I hope that there were no injuries during the fire. Have a great day my friends, and stay safe ❤️🙂⚘️🚒.
Team work for sure! No injuries!!
Speaking for Everyone who deals with day to day issues of Taking Care of the Community!! Job Well Done and Appreciative of What You Do ❤❤❤❤👩🚒👩🚒
Thanks very much
@@thejfrd2490 You are Totally Welcome 🤗
thanks so much
Always nice to see my hometown fd having a hell of a great time stay safe out there from Houston texas
these fires are not a great time.
All I could think of was Han Solo in Star Wars saying “Responding to this landfill fire was a great idea, What an incredible smell you've discovered”
😂😂😂
Not too bad....
That fire looked like it could have been great practice for an Aerial Tanker or helicopter.
That is not in our arsenal
Maybe for the forest service then yes since they have aerial tanker and helicopters I doubt that jfrd had those.
Great job guys
Appreciate that
Question... I have been wondering what the various loud beeps are (not the reverse beep beep - I know that one). I thought for a while it was air tanks getting low warnings. But, I didn't see them in use when the beeps started here. Is that a line charging? But, I have seen other fire depts charging lines when no beeps were heard.
The obnoxious ring is the firefighters Pass device, it goes off if a firefighter stops moving. Once the firefighter moves it stops.
The beeping you hear is our PASS devices...they are a safety issue on our air packs in case a firefighter goes down, they can be located quicker by sound...at a fire like this, you stand around a lot and the devices are activated by the non movement. Each firefighter should be more aware of what is going on, but in these situations they are kind of a pain... on the other hand...if you hear a steady bell ringing, that is our low air alarm notifying you that it is time to start getting out of the toxic smoke as your clean air is running low.
Great job looks uncomfortable but keep
Kicking butt!!
Appreciate that!
Were you using a hydrant or porta tanks? Just curious.
neither...we were using retention ponds
Extensive water shuttle Or was there somewhere to draft from ?
As stated in the description, we drafted
@thejfrd2490 Awesome work, brothers
thank you!@@sparky5942
Great job guys, stay safe, ya da ya da ya da ya da ya da ya da
Is there ever more than one hose put into use? I find it amazing. For what we all pay in taxes, they should have a second hose.
Multiple lines were in use...tax dollars well spent...but thanks for your input
You clearly don't understand how much of a pain in the ass a landfill fire is to put out then......
@@justanotherguy1110 Agreed!
Is this an area with hydrants?
no...it is a landfill
This is where respirators come in handy. You do not need an scba but filtration would be good.
Thanks for your input
I wonder how that happened
Probably lightning strike, except it was a clear night! lol
my guess would be batteries...but it doesn't really matter
The beeb that start as slow the speed up are built in pass devices that activates when a ffis not moving in a given amount of time
It alerts others ff that a ff might be injured or incapacitated
Thanks for your input
Ahh the good ole days. When I was growing up the landfill always burned the garbage then covered it up.
Not the case here
@@thejfrd2490 Yea that was back in the early to mid 70's in the Midwest before EPA or pollution etc.
different materials as well@@triples363
I know that is STANKING !!
not really!
Which landfill was this?
Does not really matter
@@thejfrd2490 Why? I was just curious.
The one by ladder #26 station.
bahahaha@@thenussbaum44
because viewers have a tendency to judge and we feel that isn't necessary@@matthewshashy4079
Training 10 on scene
that is correct!
Looks like Trail ridge LF. West Jacksonville.
what does that even really matter??
@@thejfrd2490 The location would be a logical part of the story.
most who watch these videos know nothing of our city@@ckohn4425
Never to late to learn .
@@ckohn4425 I’m glad you feel that way…go and read that last comment of yours…we can all learn here
Guess the other half of the fire didn’t get any water
Why would you say that? if you watch the video, the engine company is on one side of the fire...the ladder is on the other side of the fire...the dozer is working from the end towards the fire,
Damn!!! That shit stinks
It was not all that bad thankfully
can yall plz do more station 58 my dads on B shift plz and thx
where is 58? Do they do anything?
@@thejfrd2490 on Joeandy and yes, they do stuff
@@thejfrd2490 on Joeandy and yes they do
Would a drone help these firefighters?
Not really...we could see the fire...problem is reach and penetrability...moving the ladders to further the reach is not a quick or easy task.
Why, no canadair?
Not sure what this means
Didn’t respond with much equipment for the size of fire
It was a second alarm...not sure how you can say that...you cannot see all that is there
Just let it burn down247 2:18
Sorry...we cannot do that
Thanks for your input
All those cow farts (methane gas) burning up
one way to clear the air i guess
I wasn't as concerned about the fire as I was of the toxic smoke. Was that an employee with the landfill on the bulldozer? He was doing excellent work with the aid of fire department 🚒. Did you see the rainbow 🌈 in the spray of water. Please stay safe.
looked like the dozer was adding more stuff to burn they needed to break it up to get deeper into the pile to put it out not add more
The landfill workers assisted with the dozers...a great asset!
The rainbow was cool.
actually, no...they exposed the materials better for us, and in many cases, brought the material closer to us when previously it was out of reach!
@@thejfrd2490 people have probably said but that was probably all toxic and needed masks. I hate saying this stuff sounding like i'm an expert. Just that a bigger one happened where I lived and then evacuated a suburb
With it being a landfill couldn’t you just let it burn itself out
not really advised...many don't care for the smoke and its byproducts.
No wonder cancer rates are rapidly rising 😢
ok....
Trump’s👔👔👔👔somewhere in there🍿👇🔥 0:59
so not necessary.
i'm sure this had to smell GREAT.. landfill is one thing.. BURNING landfill for HOURS? yikes.
It was not that bad.
