When I think I'm having a bad day, I think of Bobby Allison. The sport that he loved almost killed him and robbed him of some of his greatest memories, and was directly responsible for the death of one child and indirectly responsible for the death of another, which in turn lead to the (then) breakdown of his mariage. His ability, his family, his fortune....gone. Yet he can look out and say "I've learned to wash my underwear and cook spaghetti....I'll be alright." And if he can be alright through that, how bad is my day?

Dad took me to meet Davey at a Texaco station grand opening in NC when I was 3 yrs old I still remember looking in Daveys eyes . Sadly both of them are in heaven now. Davey was one of the most relentlessly men ever to go around the sun . He never gave up and always kept a positive attitude. I remember dad and I mourned the loss of Davey for weeks.

It is ironic that all three families lost so much (each lost at least one family member on the track), and also prospered so much as well. The family element is what makes NASCAR so special. I wish the everyday family that is not as close could learn something from this great sport we all love, NASCAR!

I loved the Allisons after that race, probably because of their toughness and the fight at the end with Cale (who I also respect). I have 3 brothers of my own and I thought that's the way it should be. I cried for 3 days when Davey died. Clifford Allison died just a few months earlier. They have endured so much as a family.

Three families, three stories. The only common ground is success and tragedy. Adam Petty's death brought Bobby and Judy Allison back together after they experienced the loss of their sons Clifford in 1992 and Davey in 1993. The Earnhardt family endured the same thing with Ralph losing his life at age 45, Dale winning 7 cup titles, 76 wins including his only Daytona 500 and losing his life in 2001, and Dale Jr carried on the family legacy with his own success in the Busch series, a few wins in Cup including 2 Daytona 500 wins. It's quite a story and tells the stories of 3 big families.

No he doesn't..and surely not 20 yrs after his death. i never liked Nascar..i watched it with grandad and rooted on bobby allison or donnie. when i heard about this hot shot rookie driver Dale Earnhardt from my grandad in 1979..i took it at face value and ran with it. i finally had a fresh driver i could root for in my teens. im 54 yrs old now and have been a dale fan since i was 13. Dale was rough on tires..and hell on wheels...and we fans ate it up..worked for our money all week, to blow it on nascar and chicks come the weekend. yup dale started it..frigin instigator..he didnt intimidate us fans..rattle some nerves along the way..he was training them..'endurance test of wit and will' ralph earnhardt winning 101

Great footage of tiny Lund he held the stripped bass record in South Carolina for over fifty years it only got beat by a pound or so there is a picture of him with it at a store/boat landing at blacks camp at Santee Cooper one of the first fresh water strippers makes him part of NASCAR and fishing history

Lovely documentary...really hits home how dangerous the sport really is..Here you have 3 families, each with someone taken from the sport. Adam, Clifford and Dale..

These drivers here are real men lived through a depression drive big powerful cars with little safety equipment and no power steering were in crashes that could keep a driver today out for months or even scare them into quitting I have no doubt on my mind had Davey lived to finish his career he would have been a multiple champion he even earned respect of dale Sr and Richard Perry and I was a kid when Davey started was 15 when he died I cried like I had lost a brother ...Davey was my hero I wanted to be just like him tough strong and respectful and kind but take no shit just like Davey he didn't take any and never gave any unless it was deserved (DW)... Davey was alot like his father also his uncle Donnie and alot like Red farmer ....Davey did the Alabama gang proud and Clifford was starting to come up to he would have been good too but I think he didn't put the work in Davey did Davey would have won 4 to 5 cups maybe more who knows but the ones he would have won woulda taken away from Gordon and Earnhardt and with that said there would have been no Johnson and no Johnson is no oeety or Earnhardt or Allison let him drive Petty's big blue dodge with no power steering and only a lap belt with no custom seat just the big bench seat ...or let him flip over 20 times like Davey at Pocono or Wallace at Talladega and Daytona I'd like to see him almost win a cup after having to race half a season with broken bones and having to Velcro his hand to shifter ....btw if swerving irvan hadn't crashed into Davey he had that cup win ....but no driver today has the grit guts or balls to do these things drivers then had to deal with....oh yeah no cool suits too if like to see Jimmie drive around Alabama in the middle of summer with the windows up and heat on yeah he won't Jimmie even spells his name like a girl so na I never will respect his so called cups to dales and Richards and never will
