- My doorbell comprises this new, old stock RS Components' 249-637 12 / 24 Volt industrial electric bell dating from 1983 running off a 24 V DC LED transformer. The bell push is a surface-mount bus bell button. As you can hear, the bell volume takes no prisoners, and is still audible outside!
It’s like a school bell.

Absolutely brilliant, these old RS bells are great - as an alarm enthusiast along with my lighting hobbies i do have one of these bells, somewhere there much better than modern day ones with are just a plastic base with a motor and a couple of metal rings that hit the “gong” of the bell. The older ones use a centrifugal system where theres a small piston that hits the gong, providing a better nicer sound.
I thought that it might meet with your approval! Yes, I was glad to find this NOS example, as I figured that a modern equivalent could be inferior, and possibly not even British-made!

Both of those two points do not surprise me at all! I was considering going for a vintage Gent bell, but the RS one was cheaper on eBay, looked more like the type that we had at primary school (though not quite the same), and the money raised for it was going to charity, so good all round, really!
@@StreetLightOnline The old gent bells are some of the best made, there also some of the loudest, which for what there purpose was is a very good thing.
Hmm...perhaps just as well that I didn't use one for the doorbell, in that case - after all, I wouldn't want people on the other side of Derby to hear the bell ringing! Now to find a Gent air raid siren..!
