I hear a lot of good things about toyota cars. What about the tundra’s vs other pickup trucks
Car prices will continue to sell at whatever price the customer is willing to pay. If a person has $5,000 bucks that’s burning a hole in the pocket then they’ll shell out the cash for a car or truck valued at $3,000.When customers finally get to the point of walking off from a deal then prices miraculously go down. Just walk away from the deal and se what happens. But most people will not walk away from the sale, so prices remain high.
My son bought a 2003 with the rusted frame and Toyota replaced the frame at no cost to him
Toyota definitely screwed for losing the V8s altogether.. and making the Tundra a V6 and Tacoma a 4cyl!? I mean, come on, Toyota, what were you thinking..?
The hilux only 3 cylinder in Europe 🤣 in South Asia only CVT for all FWD and 1.3L for 7 seater mpv.
Knowing Toyota was likely killing their V8, I bought a new Tundra and a Sequoia in 2020.

Hello from Trinidad and Tobago.... Scotty you're absolutely incredible and an international treasure 👍
Scotty my brother got me hooked on your show . Any way I just bought a 2009 Tacoma 4 cylinder 4x4 2.7
I would say that if you are in an environment where you have all the vehicles online to chose from then by 2014 there was a huge improvement in the survivability of the car. Of course the cars at the dealership now are impossibly new compared to that so I would recommend an older car before upgrading!
We're too broke to afford this years trucks Scotty.
Don’t worry repos are up and less vehicles are being sold
NEO, I was looking at that company when you mentioned it previously. Solid State Batteries. They need epoxy polymers so's they don't short out the cells. A little resilience and elasticity in the battery will make it "shock proof" and viable.
I wish Scotty would spend a few minutes researching solar panels. The 29 photovoltaic panels on my roof have been there happily making electricity since 1987.
How much were they then? How long was the payoff ? Do you watch Will Prowse?
I see a lot of people with newer tacomas that have small issues that they shouldnt
I have a 2001 Tacoma Prerunner 4Cyl. It will probably outlive me
I have the Blue Point/ Snap-On oil filter wrench set specifically for modern Toyotas. The plastic filter housing breaks if the gasket is swollen and locks-in the plastic. And they get super messy, and can take awhile to drain.

Scotty you gotta make a vehicle tier list
600 miles is great, but not if it takes a month to recharge. And with a different battery, you'll probably need a different type of recharging station. Especially solid state batteries.
My understanding is the actual 'charger' is inside EVs themselves.
What people call the 'charger' on the wall is just a dumb plug. The car does the actual charging and adjusting the voltage/current etc.
Can you give your opinion on the 2023 Toyota/Subaru GR86
He already has. And buying new is stupid..if you guys woul stop buying new, and just wait..they'd have t drop the prices down and stop ripping people off
Miss my 91' Acura Legend coupe. Unfortunately I had to get rid of it because the head gasket issue with those cars. It's a pretty tough job and I didn't have the resources to take on the job at the time. 😮💨
Semi solid state is a really good idea. Use Solid state up first, then switch to L=ion as it drains. That way the vast majority of time the Lithium cells will hardly ever be used since most people drive less than 30 miles a day. 600 mile range? make the first 100 miles use solid state. Would take care of the lion depreciation problem for almost everyone.
That's a nice, CALM, ocean those carbon capture engineers have there! Wonder where it is! 😂
I agree with nuclear power. And now we have even better manufacturing abilities and safety mechanics and stuff like that. Heck we even have R&D going into the waste, to produce batteries. That would be the perfect combination, depleted uranium batteries, and nuclear power.
Best way is do a search on the internet, search for "best and worse years for the vehicle you are looking for the list of years to avoid and along with years to buy
Nuke pollutes! What do they do with the spent fuel rods?!?
They send them to Utah
Where I live they took a land fill and use the methane to power a plant to dehydrate potatoes.
Most people don’t need 600 miles of range a day. I get by charging overnight 2x a week and I don’t even go below 50% state of charge.
If Americans start buying Chinese EV's we're doomed.

Toyota is a very conservative company and they don't make many mistakes. But they have had some dogs with fleas in the past. The 2AZ-FE engine had more problems than oil burning so I would avoid that engine like fat free ice cream. Their cars from the 70s had very poor rust and corrosion protection but they improved that. When something is wrong they fix it. The Big 3 just ignore it and tell you that you don't know how to drive or maintain the car or truck.

Teslas are going 500,000 miles with minimum battery degradation and close to no maintenance. Fleet companies have realized this and are all going electric.
Mr. Kilmer, what are your thoughts on a 2015 Lincoln MKS AWD EcoBoost full-size sedan, which has the 3.5 L twin-turbo (EcoBoost) V6 engine with 365 horsepower and the six-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift mode? They are much enjoyable to drive, if the odometer reading is low and they are well-maintained, including the replacement of the internal water pump, which is underneath the engine. These MKS' with the EcoBoost engine are fairly reliable and they are fairly fuel-efficient than these older luxurious sedans. I would like to plan to purchase one to use for a road trip and on the weekend, not to use as a daily driver. For a vehicle to use as a daily driver or commuter (from point A to point B), I will just buy a 2008 Mazda 6 mid-size sedan with the 2.3 L four-cylinder engine, which produces 156 horsepower and the five-speed automatic transmission, because it will be very reliable and it will save more money at the gasoline station and save more fuel, than the 2015 Lincoln MKS AWD EcoBoost sedan. It has a higher fuel range and it gets better MPG's (miles per gallon). Thank you very much and have a great night. Cheers.
The older ones get worse gas milage, but they're built better....and it doesn't cost $1000 to do a water pump on an old lincoln...

3:35 - TOYOTA makes the BEST EVERYTHING. I own a 94 Celica with over 344,000 miles on the motor and Transmission. Scotty is Correct! Now ya know!
Toyota doesn't make the best....Hondas are just as good...even scotty has said honda makes the best motors in the world...and they do. How many times has Scotty swatted his camera off the stand?
I don't care about the 0 to 60, and towing, just want a truck with good MPG, simplicity, durability.
(In the 2000-era Tacoma) Which is better - the 2.4L 4cyl or the 2.7L? I know the 2.7L is durable...is the 2.4L equally reliable?
Yes even more so because it's less complicated. The 2.7 has balance shafts and the 2.4 does not.
I have a 2001 Tacoma with the 2.4 and it still runs smooth like butter. over 200k miles.
Also some 2.4 like mine does not have a EGR system (exhaust gas recirculation)
I had a 2001 Toyota with the 2.4 L 4-cylinder with 200k miles on the odometer. That engine never had any major mechanical issues and the 5 speed transmission still had the original clutch.
None 3.4 for the win !!!
Those two are really similar, the main difference is the heads. The difference in reliability between the two is negligible but probably the smaller 2RZ
All solid states have an inherent problem. Some of the smartest people in the world have tried to solve it over the last 40 years. GE, Duracell, BASF, GM, Northrup.....have spent billions and they have all come to the same conclusion, solid states are great for power, but they grow spikes (tentacles) and it kills their longevity.

A Subaru CVT will almost never overheat. The Toyota launch-gear CVT has had reliability problems. Not sure the issues have been resolved: "Spoiler is that they offer improved performance with less rubber-bandy feel and very snappy artificial downshifts used in manumatic/simulated mode (most arguing its the best feeling CVT yet) but on the flip side have had very poor reliability with many customers already having problems after only one or two years. Their manual by contrast has been perfectly reliable and is generally preferred by reviewers, and is unique in that it is more or less an 'assisted manual' which helps to keep you from stalling and rev matches between shifts for you making it an easy-mode manual for novices."
Bard: "There have been some reports of reliability problems with Toyota's launch-gear CVT transmissions. These reports typically involve the transmission slipping or making strange noises, and they have been most common in vehicles with the 2.0-liter engine. In 2019, Toyota issued a recall for certain 2018 and 2019 Corollas with the launch-gear CVT transmission. The recall was issued due to a potential problem with the transmission software that could cause the transmission to slip or make strange noises. Toyota also issued a software update to address the issue. However, some owners of vehicles that were not part of the recall have also reported problems with their launch-gear CVT transmissions. In some cases, the problems have been severe enough to require the transmission to be replaced. It is important to note that Toyota has not issued a general recall for all vehicles with the launch-gear CVT transmission. However, if you are experiencing problems with your transmission, you should bring your vehicle to a Toyota dealer for diagnosis. Here are some of the common problems reported with Toyota's launch-gear CVT transmission: Transmission slipping, Transmission making strange noises, Transmission warning lights coming on, Transmission not shifting properly, Transmission overheating." Failure to launch! I doubt software will fix it. Honda tried to fix oil dilution with a software patch.🤣

Today Toyota gives only one key fob when you buy a new Toyota crown platinum.
Scotty can you make a video about that? Why Toyota gives only one key fob for a 54k thousand car??
hello Scotty , i'm thinking about buying a new car , rav 4 or corolla cross, which one is better?
I'm not scotty, but the Rav 4's 8 speed transmission will last longer than Corolla's CVT transmission. Less maintenance, too. Cvts need trans fluid changes every 20-30k miles while the 8 speed is at 50-60k. At around 60-80k, you will have to change the cvt transmission filter, gasket, and clean the transmission drain pan from oil along w the little magnets that catch metal shavings in your CVT transmission system. The shavings are a result of friction created from the CVT using pulleys to transfer power to the engine instead of gears like a traditional transmission. I theorize that more friction is created within a CVT rubber belt pulley system leading to more metal shavings vs a metal gear driven transmission. However, we know for a fact that rubber timing belts don't last as long as timing chains. Similar to how a rubber belt cvt system will break down before a 8 speed metal gear driven transmission.

Toyota Just Screwed up.....Oh, I thought you were talking about the brand new 2023 Toyota Crown that billionaire James Crown took to a racetrack, crashed and died. "Crown lost control of his 2023 Toyota Crown and collided with an impact barrier." Maybe the advertising by Toyota of what a powerful car the new Crown model is leads people to believe they are buying a racecar in disguise "Turbocharged and electrified" "generating an exceptional 340 combined net horsepower with 400 lb.-ft. of torque." Now that is a real Toyota screwup! I think 99% of the news reporting services are saying Mr. Crown was killed while driving a racecar. um, no. You should never take a passenger sedan that is not equipped for track use to a race track. I am surprised the vehicle inspectors who ensure that cars using the track are suitably equipped for high speed driving even let him on the course.

Does the scanner you have allow displaying the number of hours the engine has run like my work pickup does on the vehicles display. I was thinking that looking at the number of hours that a car has run combined with the mileage would be a better item to look at when buying used. Ex: High hours/low miles = more city miles and would not be a good low mileage buy. So, do toyotas generally store hours run and how fancy a scanner do I need to read it?
Depends on the vehicle and manufacturer. I think Ford does have Hours and can be looked at with a scanner
