Just don’t do it. Get a car 10 years older in good shape. Make sure it’s a Toyota or Honda and it has every service made on time, you’ll be good to go for a long time.

Same here. Never leased a vehicle. But I am seriously considering it due to the fact that all the vehicles seem to be garbage and I do want to deal with the expense and headache of repairs after the warranty runs out. I'll just get a new one every 36 months and live with a monthly payment forever. Doesn't make sense to do that, but...
That's why I want to drive the car. I don't want the car driving itself. I prefer low-tech, but reliable, vehicles.
That explains why I drive 23 years old Toyota low tech. I have two old low tech car at home and only maintenance is oil change every 3 months air filter change spark plug and 4 speed auto fulid and filter change every 5 years along with $40 spark plug every 4 years. No issue even oil leak! One issue my sister want me to junk these two cars due to its age and the shame to drive it around.

My 05 Ram 1500 with 273cid Magnum easily pulled a 8,000lb trailer for 240 miles. Portion of which was up a 3% grade. Sadly we missed trans fluid/filter change. Could have gone another 170,000 miles. Poor dealer servicing on three occasions. And sketchy quik kar oil shop.

No they have 3 and all of them are at 900,000 and not even an oil change
So true. The older Rams were better though. When they were American owned they were the best and then when Daimler owned them they still were good trucks but not as good and when FCA bought them they started going down hill and now Stellantis is in a nosedive with quality.

That was my stepdad two years ago, had so many issues with his and traded in for a Tundra. No problems at all! Ram started 2 months after he got it.

I don’t always agree with Scotty but he does have a point, why go from a lever and cable (emergency/parking break) to a complicated electric switch and motor?
Because they have to keep techies employed? Because wimpy people can't do anything for themselves anymore? Pulling a lever might give someone an injury.
& they don't tell U that in an emergency (using an electronic e-brake)......U need to activate release activate release (keep repeating) every second to slow the car down
I saw that in a Chrysler 200 and said one day the lotor will stop working and the parking brake will be useless
The producers change things into more complicated only for 1 reason. Get more money when the new solution fails
My ‘17 Ridgeline has a nice big foot pedal for the parking brake. Like it should have!
RAM isn't the only vehicle to have issues. Imagine buying a new Toyota truck and needing a replacement engine within the first year. I have a 2019 RAM 1500 with 90K trouble free miles.

I have a 2020 ram 1500 and can confirm that about once or twice a month when backing up, my truck will shame the brake on for no apparent reason reason.
It drives me mad.
If you turn off your rear auto brake it won’t happen. You probably already know but it’s in your settings. Turned mine off and it’s good to go.
I've noticed that when the backend sensors get a little dirty, they're more likely to slam on the brake when backing up. They're definitely sensitive to the slightest incline behind the truck, and that'll really do it, too.
That sounds like the parking sensors
Turn that off then. It’s a setting in the Uconnect. 🙄

Listen, Stellantis prices are exactly on par with every other auto maker. All Trucks are 50k plus. And the old "this isn't reliable" is complete garbage these days. Every auto maker has a laundry list of people complaining about something, often self-inflicted. Anything will take you over 200k when properly maintained. We don't have to like it, I want a plain truck that is simple and costs no more than 35k, but that is rare or not happening with this inflation. Everyone had to have "TECH" in their car and this is where we are today. Consumer greed...people bought, auto makers reciprocated by making bigger and better at higher price because people are fine with 80k in debt, apparently.

In Japan the suppliers are located very close to the factory that needs the parts. I'm not sure about the US but it seems like many parts are sourced globally. JIT from across the world is way different from JIT from across the street.
I blame people for this... They wouldn't build such poor quality if people didn't buy them, but as long as people buy any junk thrown at them, why would these companies feel the need to produce quality product?
And airheads now days spend $80k+ on trucks that are way worse quality than tucks 20 years ago were.
I have a 2011 ram with hemi engine with 0 problems and the best is that cost me half of what any tundra cost, toyota made good cars but cost way more.

Engine dipsticks are also becoming a rarity. You'll know you're low on oil when your engine seizes or starts glowing red.
The new inline 6 from ram has no dipstick for oil. Stupid!!!
I hate it that and cost a ‘Arm & a Leg’ to get your Trans change. One QT for my VW Passat is $43 dollars each and you have the labor cost and tax. I used to do it myself before not having a dipstick.

I am a mechanic, I owned a 2007 Ram 5,7 1500, 146000 miles. One broke down gearbox, water pump, radiator, exhaust manifold gasket and bolts. Traded it for a brand new 2018 5,7 Longhorn. 45000 miles now. I have changed parking brake linings , two headlamps, and left mirror blinker.I love my Ram.
I had a new 2016 traded in at about 65,000 miles. No issues loved it. I got the 2020 new, about 52,000 on it, no issues knock on wood so far. Love it. 5.7hemi
I got a 2019 Classic express. Bought it with 20k on it for 33k in 2021. It's the 3.6L. I like it and want to run it until it's dead or falls apart from NE winters. haha New trucks (all makes) are so much more money than they used to be. Also a lot nicer, but I like the plain jane express package.

@@Marklin15 It was 36K or 38K new, I believe on the sticker. 20k miles off, $3k cheaper in 2021 when prices were nuts... I was fine with it. Has the black out 20"wheel pack, a 6.4' LED lit bed, and tonneau cover added. Paid it off quick.
I have a 2000 Tahoe with original everything. I change the oil, filter, air filter, coolant.
I started working on cars in 1973 for oldsmobile and and older mechanic said when the electronics electronic ignition came out in 1975 and were having problem's he had said to me kid this is the beginning of the down fall of the automobiles and it's going to get worse i was 19 at the time, now i'm 70 boy was he was so right
My old car and truck still have the points distributor. I keep getting told to get the HEI ignition but i like keeping them stock. I won't buy a vintage car that has one in it.
After my third trip to the parts store for my 23 y.o. Jeep, I remarked to the parts girl that my truck was becoming their best friend. Her response was telling : “ You and Ram trucks”!!! 💩💩💩💩

It's amazing how many trucks and SUVs are priced between $60,000-$125,000. Insane! There are still many parts of the country where you could buy a house, or even two, for that kind of money.

Occured a few times in a year. Ghost in the machine.
Try disconnecting battery to reset, connect and let it idle for 30 min with no accessories on. Let the computer set a new idle baseline.

Every top level executive of every car company should watch Scotty’s videos if they want their brand to be seen as a good one.
I'm not sure they care what commoners think. Too many bozos out there who have a need to prove how modern they are.
Finance on the one side and government regulators on the other side. They literally can't make what customers want, any more.
These companies loved the regulations for decades, because they made it impossible for new competition to ever catch on, AND they had the government's backing (bailouts!) if they failed, so they couldn't fail.

Rams, Ford's GMC's, They are all having problems. Too many gears in the transmissions and too many Selenoids and too many electronics
Bad transmissions are a Ford and GM problem. The one and only time Chrysler ever had widespread transmission issues was 2004-2006 in their 2500 trucks.
@@PotatoeJoe69I work next door to a reputable, busy transmission shop. They survive solely on Ram, Ford and GM trucks and obviously anything with a CVT….But, GM’s make up 50% of what they do. They call them “chevrolegs “….😂

@@michaelhammond5895 Yep, I have one. 1991 D350 dually, 1st gen Cummins mated up to a Torqueflite 727 3 speed. It isn't winning any races but it's one of the strongest transmissions ever made. It gets the job done.
My 25 year old truck&SUV still start run great. Never had any major issues just maintenance. 342,000 miles on the original never rebuilt engine, trans,diff. Never getting rid of them.

Getting stuck in the mud with a manual transmission may not harm the transmission, but in the wrong hands, it'll fry a clutch.

My 1993 K2500 is having zero parts availability issues. It is fabulous.
Same for my 2005.
I have had several Rams over the years and we are on our 2nd wrangler and no problems out of either model!!!!
I have a 2022 Ram 1500 Bighorn 5.7L for 6 months now, 35k miles, one-owner lease turn-in without E-torque. No issues other than a downshift clunk once in a while. Knock wood. No vehicle is perfect.
I own a 2000 Ram 1500, back when they were made better. Only has 115,000 miles now and hasn’t cost me much.
the 2nd gens (1994-2001) were the closest thing dodge ever came to a real truck and even then, they were only worthwhile if it had the 5.9L Cummins...

@@IAWAF great, i had a 1991 dakota sport with a 3.9 auto years ago. bought it as a winter beater and it was barely good at doing that. plus, it was the worst vehicle for mileage i've personally owned. that turd was so gutless, it could barely get out of its own way. just my experience. it was the ONLY non GM i've ever owned.

Most common prices I hear range between $40,000-$60,000 for normal type EV's. Could be drastically more for higher end vehicles.
Who's going to put a $50,000 battery into a car that's only valued at $2,000-$10,000 eight to 10 years down the road? I'm assuming nobody.

many cars in the late nineteens had the perfect balance between electronics and computers on cars. All the extra crap makes cars expensive, heavy, unreliable and they do not last.
I want a car that doesn't need software to adjust the fuel-air mix. I know they can make a good, reliable car without ANY microchips in it, because that's how ALL cars were. That's what I want.

Well, my only comment is, my son a mechanical engineer, spent the past years in northern Alberta - oil field/pipeline work. Almost all vehicles were trucks. Almost all trucks were Ford, GM or Ram. He got to drive all three, all newer models. I asked him what he thought of them. He said: "The Ford and Gm trucks were very nice but, The Ram was like a tank. It was heavier, and you could feel how solid it was." So, on many long stretches of highways, Moose collisions happen, sometimes people die. For that reason only, he would rather be in that RAM. Yeah, the Ram may be less reliable but it is safer. I then asked what about Toyota? He said, "Almost no one drives Toyota this far north". Hmmm

My girlfriend's 2005 has 240,000 mi on it.... Still runs very very well.
I have a 2014 ram tradesman with 100k miles. Pirchased it used. No bells or wistles. No issues . Great truck..simple rugged and no $1000 month car payment

My daughter (who is a pretty decent driver) had to drive her vehicle (old Honda Accord) into the service bay at a local tire shop. Why? The Tech didn't know how to drive a stick shift.

I worked on the line at GM. It's an 'assembly' plant. They don't manufacturer much of anything that gets assembled on the vehicle.
That is the number 1 problem in new vehicles of today, in past years now.

I have a 2017 F150 Raptor; doors won't open/close when freezing, tranny is broken (100 k km), motor ratles like crazy when startup, know problem. I'll gladly go back to Ram 🙄
Rams went down hill with all of its new models. I own a 2016 I bought when i was 18 years old and its got 200k on it now still turns over with no tick. Always maintenance your vehicles and don't trust new rams.

Former cnc machinist. I made parts for many big name companies.
And the new 3.0l 6 cyl trucks are killing batteries while they sit on the lots. They go dead completely after a couple weeks if sitting. Here I am wasting my time fixing this crap under warranty which pays nothing.

I had a 1972 Dodge D-100 (1/2 ton) with the ever reliable 318 under the hood. No computer garbage and all made in the USA. In seven years the only problems I had was a fuel pump and later a water pump. I wouldn't touch any of these new computer laden contraptions with many parts made in China.
I rented a Ram in S Carolina and less than 2 miles into the drive all the dash gauges started going crazy, lost power.. pulled over and then it decided to not turn back on for like 4 hours while I was stranded on the side of the road on a hot day waiting for a tow truck.
Literally as soon as the tow truck pulled up the windshield wipers started going, so I turned the key and it turned on.. I didn’t trust it so I turned it off and let the tow truck take me back to the rental company.
I bought a new Ram 1500 5.7 that did the same thing. It was in the service dept at the dealer for days until they finally figured it out.
@@Kawasaki750H2stroke I’m curious what it was…. I wasted $1000+ on flights, rental car to get to a meeting only to get stranded on the side of the road by that brand new truck, missed the meeting, turned right back around at the airport and just went home..
@@dacokc Oh geez that must have sucked. They just said it was an ignition issue and because it was under warranty didn't go into detail. Took them days to figure it out. That Ram had 10 recalls in 5 years. The Hemi developed a top end tick at 20K miles. The dashboard made moaning and creaking sounds like it was haunted. The body panels didnt align up from the factory. I sold it because I was tired of the recalls and with no warranty id be in deep trouble if it broke again and again. It just felt like a truck you didnt want to keep long term.

I purchased the 2024 Ram 5.74 4x41500 in January and it is the best most reliable truck I've ever had. Great fuel mileage. And I have owned trucks all my life and I am now at age 80.

When I worked at Bendix on the 1970's, the foreman would have us go to another department and file the Ford "reject" brake name off the caliper, and they would send them to Chrysler. Lee Iacocca was head of Chrysler back then. 1970's
Btw, everyone knows Toyota, Ford and Chevy are also having Q issues and large recalls. It's a culture and leadership problem. Boeing and NASA represent the best to worst downslide as well.
Nobody no longer drives 12k miles a year, this is the mileage that people drove back in the 60s, today’s people drive approximately 17k miles per year. The government commission and the insurance companies need to adjust for today’s people who drive father to work because people have moved away from the city for employment

Ran out of gas in a new Jeep Wrangler EV/Gasoline vehicle...immediately once I was completely out of gasoline in the tank it threw on the emergency brake without warning! ugh.
I became fed up with computer controlled vehicles and small cramped engine bays and went back to a 1986 ford with a 460. Thousands of miles of
uninterrupted reliability on the original drivetrain. Gets 15 miles to the gallon just about the same mpg as newer trucks.
I wish I could get a standard transmission in a truck. I never trusted automatics. I always had issues with them.
I still have a 2005 Ford F150 with a manual transmission. Driving a vehicle with one of these transmissions is definitely a lost art.
My ram has 118000km and 6 years old and have had ZERO issues. My brother ha e over 320000km on his and it's 12 years old. Treated him well
