I see a lot of people comment about scotty being biased and I've never owned a Toyota, but I also know a lot of people that will never buy anything else but a Toyota after being burned for decades into buying something else. It seems to me that his main mission is to educate us so we don't get burned. I have really learned and enjoyed his videos for the last few years since I started watching. Luckily I got a Honda 10 years ago after chasing my tail with a so called American made car like GM, Ford and the nonexistent Chrysler. I don't think that I would buy anything newer than a 2019 because of all of the problems with all of the manufacturers and the technology and supply chain issues. Some really great and smart people comment on here and I always like to read some of them. Thanks everyone and even the haters
I treasure my 2004 highlander, bought last year for 5,000 with just under 10,000 miles. Replaced original dry rotted tire. all fluids changed, new timing belt/ water pump, updated Bluetooth head to the JBL sound system. Very blessed
I like it but I refuse to pay 14k for a 10 year old car with 160k miles on it. Sorry. That's a 6 or 8 thousand dollar car. Stop paying these prices and they will adjust down to where they belong.
I think the world would stop spinning if Scotty actually bought a brand new car/SUV/ Truck Angels would fear the apocalypse was imminent if they actually witnessed Scotty laying down the Cash.
To all the folk who are claiming that the fella got robbed by purchasing a 10 year old car with 168k miles. All I can say is that this is the times we live in. I am a small independent repair shop and dealer. You wouldn't believe what these cars go for at auction. Heck I don't even buy much from auctions anymore because the prices are so high that I'd have to charge something like this to even have a small margin by the time I paid for all the fees, transport, reconditioning, detail, etc. So I just don't buy them. But the point is that this is the time we live in. Most all good used cars like Toyota, Honda, etc are fetching higher than normal prices because, well, they can. Even at the auctions. Consider this phenomenon when you make a critique.
That’s how Toyotas are. They are going to have high resale value no matter what the mileage is because people know that they are built well and run for a really long time.
You need to check for a parasitic draw in the electrical system. You should not need a new battery every two years, even if you're only buying a battery with a 2 year warranty.
2014 RAV4 is indeed a reliable car, but "Comfortable" 😁😁😁, No, its too jiggly (stiff suspension with short wheel-base), otherwise, pretty well made. One thing to check is if it has its transmission fluid replaced at all...
Go for it, i bought my Honda Cr-v For pretty much the same milage and now its like on 193000 miles and still a smooth ride without much problems. Last time i had it with the mechanic was on the annual inspection on february 2023 that is like every 2nd year and still I don't need to fix anything on it yet. Have another rav4 2002 on 248000 miles that really have had some bad previous owners that didn't take proper care of it, Had it since 2022 but have to park it right now because of rust. the only Major issues (despite the bad oil pressure it had one or a few times) with that was that stupid turbo mechanism that sometimes forced me to restart the engine a couple of times, I could have just scrapped it but i know its still a good car so i put it aside and fix it when time is available.
I'm quite pleased that my 2009 Prius has just over 250K miles, burns no oil, AC is cold, has no codes, and runs very well especally after I just repaced the inverter coolant pump.
I have the exact same car. I bought it new and now it has 40,000. Looks and runs like brand new. I just put my second set of tires, had the brake pads/rotors changed and changed all the fluids. The car is the best car in snow I have ever own. It seldom goes into AWD and it is great in front wheel drive only. I just put a set of Michelin Cross Climate 2’s. Love them! Looking forward how the handle the snow in the Pocono’s of PA. I plan on keeping this car this it dies.
I have. 2017 RAV4 hybrid with 142,000 miles that gets 42mpg. Fill ups cost me $38 a week, and all I've done to it is oil changes, a tire change, and a coolant drain and fill.
No way Scotty. I had a 2010 for a couple years. It said 4 cycle but really it was a 2 cycle by how much oil it used. Then the rust - was about ready to break in two when I traded it off. Visibility is an issue with rav - you really can not see out the rear and the hood slopes so can't see front. Worst car I ever owned.
Bruh, you must be a midget because my short sister measuring in at a mighty 5:3 says she loves the visibility and can see just fine out the rear window even with tint
Still too much. The 'gas savings' are negated with the expensive monthly insurance. Rather get used at a fraction of the price and dirt cheap insurance. $14k for this one was too much too
$14,000 for an 11 year old car with over 200,000Km on it??? RIP-OFF!!!!!! I don't care if it is a Toyota! That's more than the cost of all the vehicles I've owned since 1993 COMBINED!!!
That’s how Toyotas are. They are going to have high resale value no matter what the mileage is because people know that they are built well and run for a really long time. Also, that’s the way the market is for the older Toyotas right now.
@@Nousername9-b1n Toyota is like Peterbilt, you're paying a premium for the name. Plenty of other manufacturers make solid reliable cars. Two years ago, I bought a 2011 Altima with only 109k miles on it for $4k. The body had normal wear and some clear coat fading, but that didn't matter since it's a learner car for my kids and it still cleans up nicely. The leather interior is flawless and literally every button and function works perfectly, even the sunroof. I've put 25k miles on it in the past two years with multiple 1200 mile road trips, including steep mountain grades in the CA summer; and all I've had to do is normal maintenance. It doesn't burn oil and it gets 35-40mpg on the highway. And when the CVT eventually goes out, I can replace it for $3k and get another 100k+ out of the car.
That’s how Toyotas are. They are going to have high resale value no matter what the mileage is because people know that they are built well and run for a really long time.
Před 20 dny
Yeah, that's pretty high for a 2014 with that many miles.
What's all the nasty comments about? You won't find a Toyota in this good shape at a dealer for 12k unless it's paint is peeling and faded, has problems. This car was taken care of.
I had a 2016 RAV4 with a 2.0 engine and a CVT that was available in Europe. We didn’t have the 2.5 engine. I had it since new and made 150k km. 2 years ago I replaced it with Lexus NX hybrid that I like even more. It’s much more comfortable and interior quality is a whole different level than the RAV4. I will probably keep the NX for a long time.
He's cheap when it comes to spending but he's not greedy. Big difference. He's already stated he does not accept donations because he only wants to help people and doesn't want their money.
They have this cost and have value, but most are way overpriced because they know people will pay that for them. Toyota has the most resale value, but these dealer prices are a joke and that's for all vehicles. Buy used and pay cash from a private seller if you can and save $5 to $8k.
My sister has a 2017 KIA Soul and last year it started having oil disappear. No leaks but goes thru a quart a week. That’s putting less than 70 miles a week on it going to work. Kia and the dealer says that normal. No it’s not.
In 2018 I bought a 2012 Prius V with 29,000 miles for $14,000. Now 6 years & 104,000 miles later the car is worth almost the same. Runs great & will be interesting to how many more miles & years I will get out of it, barring deer strikes of course.
Looks like I’ll keep driving our 2004 Camry with 280k. $14k for 160k miles is wild. I also see post-high-school kids thinking $1000/month car payments are normal. It’s not. That used to be a house payment. Kids also used to drive hand-me-down beaters, not late model $50k Jeeps.
I have my 2016 awd rav4 limited made in Canada as well. Im the only owner and keep up with maintenance. Im only at 90k miles. Still runs like its brand new.
You should be able to use your phone as a mobile wifi hot spot to connect your scan tool. As long as you have a good cellular signal you're good. If the scan tool won't connect to your phone then it really is a piece of crap
That's pretty much my condition with 2016:) 130,000 miles, got it at 70,000 miles a couple years ago:) it's an amazing car! It's in great condition, I take care of it, some of the maintenance is a little behind though like the coolant, timing chain, and differential fluid, becauase I can't afford to change them right now. I still have $13,700 to pay on it though:/ but in less than 3 years it'll be paid off!:)
STOP complaining guys!😂 That’s what they’re going for and that’s that… at the Manheim auction that vehicle costs $9K before fees, shipping, reconditioning, insurance, lot mortgage, sellers commission etc. so $14k is fair but $12500 would be better. But not a robbery at all!
@@TheTruth-dy8zeWe didn’t buy it new. It was already devalued. Even gas powered vehicles have crappy trade in values. Although, I did once have a Chevy Volt (plug in hybrid) lease that had a trade in value that was higher than what we owed.
I just paid 8000 for a 2012 rav4 all wheel drive 4 cyl with 86,000 miles it runs like new. Picked it up in New York and drove it to Iowa next day trouble free.
I always replace my tires at the same time, even when I drove a front wheel car. Every 5 years for my summers and 6 for my winters and only because by then they are cracking
Who's paying 56K for a Rav4 Hybrid? Come on Scotty. OTD in NC is 36K for a Rav4 Hybrid XLE. Your friend got Swindled. It ain't worth even 8K after 10 y and 160k miles
Does your car rebuild? I do research rav 2015 doesn’t have CVT transmission “No, the 2015 Toyota RAV4 has a 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence (ECT-i). However, the 2019 RAV4 and newer models have a 6-speed or 10-speed continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). CVT transmissions are also known as shiftless, step-less, or pulley transmissions”……. Does a 2015 Toyota RAV4 Have a CVT Transmission? The 2015 Toyota RAV4 comes standard with a 2.4L four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission. The 2015 RAV4 is not equipped with a CVT transmission. Probably your rav4 ( car flipping with engine and transmission modifications)
Used car market is messed up these days. 150K Tacoma with 2wd, manual transmission, and a crew cab… “13000K is the lowest I’ll sell it for”. I don’t care how great a car it is you’re over 150k and it’s 20 years old
oil change intervals are a problem when I look for used Toyota. Many leases are not getting a change until traded back at 30,000 plus miles. Many other 1 and 2 owners have 10-12 thousand miles between oil changes and ZERO tranny and fluid changes.Too many are also driven too hard in town driving as they are getting their brakes changed every 40 thousand miles.
Thanks for this video. Scan tool looks like it’s running Android! Re: internet, guess you could always use the hotspot on your phone if WiFi is too far away, if you have service.

You're talking about a Toyota! With regular maintenance, this car could easily go 400,000 miles or more. This is nof a Ford Focus!
Just got into an accident with a rav4. RAV4 flipped several times and landed about 100’ from impact. Guy got out and was fine. I’m sold.

Was that Mrs Scotty at 8:56 ?
She's pretty!
Further proof the Scotty Kilmer is the man.
Tell me im wrong.
Also, the 2024 Hybrids by me are going for $31,000 to $34,000. Nowhere near the >$50,000 you say they are going for.
Yep, I got my 2024 Rav4 Hybrid for $32,800, and that was with a oem roof rack, door mouldings, and alloy wheels...
Damn
Still too much. The 'gas savings' are negated with the expensive monthly insurance.
Rather get used at a fraction of the price and dirt cheap insurance. $14k for this one was too much too
I have a 2016 rav4. No problems
Bro got robbed wtf ☠️
and the one who paid 56k for a rav4 hybrid like people have lost their minds
I have a 2006 Matrix with300,790 miles, motor, trans, fine, just needs a paint job!
I think they made that and the Vibe in Canada as well.
I believe the matrix and Corolla from that era are the most trouble free cars ever made.
What is rapter liner????? @@v.scarlet.813
Every RAV4 I’ve driven is about as comfortable as a picnic table.
Ty for that. Well said
Doing 50 on a 35 speed limit zone you sir were born to be wild!
My wife and I are looking to buy a rav4, so this video is perfect timing
Go with A honda Crv if you can find a clean on that was one owner they out last toyotas and are more comfortable
Especially in Canada. After 10 years it starts to turn into a rust bucket.
Did we get a glimpse of the mysterious Mrs Scotty? Now I'm curious.
lynne yes that's uncle Scotty's wife's aunt Leslie at 08:54.
@@nigelnazeemjohannes85 Thank you I'm nosy, curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back ! as the saying goes.
That looks just like my car. I absolutely love it. Spent all day working on it today.
Love my 97 RAV4...still going strong and looks good too!
He got Rob by the stealership by paying 14000 dollards for a 10 year old car, I don't give at at axs how good the car is.😁😁😁😁
That’s how Toyotas are. They are going to have high resale value no matter what the mileage is because people know that they are built well and run for a really long time.
Yeah, that's pretty high for a 2014 with that many miles.
14k… safe to say he got ripped off
Yep!🤔🤯
It's a $12k car, ripped off, no, finessed yes. He will 100% get his $14,000 out of that car. Actually 160,000 mi maybe closer to $11 k
He only Drove it 16.000 per year not to many miles but still think it's only worth about $12.000
What's all the nasty comments about? You won't find a Toyota in this good shape at a dealer for 12k unless it's paint is peeling and faded, has problems. This car was taken care of.
Maybe from a private owner if you're lucky finding one. @@THEBEARDEDTOOLGUY
Sorry, your customer got taken.
Scotty so cheap he probably wouldn't lend you 10 bucks.
asked my dad to borrow $10 when I was 12........never again 🤦.
He went mental/angry....never again 😂.
I imagine he tips generously, IS generous.
Neither would I
He's cheap when it comes to spending but he's not greedy. Big difference.
He's already stated he does not accept donations because he only wants to help people and doesn't want their money.
They have this cost and have value, but most are way overpriced because they know people will pay that for them. Toyota has the most resale value, but these dealer prices are a joke and that's for all vehicles. Buy used and pay cash from a private seller if you can and save $5 to $8k.
never even pulled the dipstick. ! Scanner doesn't tell you if it has oil.
My 2005 is still going 205,000. It’s the best car I ever dreamed of
Not directly related, but I bought a Canadian Sequoia and has the paint issue, but Toyota USA wouldn’t touch it even though it was made in the USA.
Mum got a Kia new 20grand. Has had no problems.
Yet, give it a year or two.
@@kennywhiddon1497 was new in 2020. Still runs mint as. Absolutely no problems at all.
My sister has a 2017 KIA Soul and last year it started having oil disappear. No leaks but goes thru a quart a week. That’s putting less than 70 miles a week on it going to work. Kia and the dealer says that normal. No it’s not.
@@cynthiatully5234 It's probably one sold in America, you guys get crappy cars there. Cars that are for NZ market are built better.
It will.
2014 rav4 le was $16k new and he paid 14k 10 years later.
😂😂😂😂😂
OK. And?
Have you seen what houses have done in the last 10 years?
2014 is gone and will not be back again. The prices are, what the prices are...
@@michaeljones3765 Yoy missed the point. It's s not a collectable and it kept its value because of its reliability. No other brand does that.
Probably, we have exact RAV4. I have 100,256 miles on it. Just a good reliable work horse.
In 2018 I bought a 2012 Prius V with 29,000 miles for $14,000. Now 6 years & 104,000 miles later the car is worth almost the same. Runs great & will be interesting to how many more miles & years I will get out of it, barring deer strikes of course.
Good grief thats why i buy new 14 grand 160 that dude got reamed that thing will be breaking down every month lmao
My 2011 RAV4 Base is great. Going strong with 226000 . I'm going for more
Bought a 2015 Chevy volt with 61k miles for 13.5k, couldn’t be happier.
scotty you can turn on hotspot mode on your phone
Looks like I’ll keep driving our 2004 Camry with 280k. $14k for 160k miles is wild.
I also see post-high-school kids thinking $1000/month car payments are normal. It’s not. That used to be a house payment. Kids also used to drive hand-me-down beaters, not late model $50k Jeeps.
I just sold my 2012 TRD sport 4x4 Tacoma with 125k miles.
Guy paid me 21 thousand. Cost 34 thousand new.
That's just what things cost now.
@8:53 Scotty's wife makes a guest appearance.

I have a 2014 RAV4, and it doesn’t look at all like that. It looks like the previous body style. It’s also an EV, not a plug in hybrid, a real EV.
So sad about your battery cart no trade in used value.
Might want to check it's history. Also look for rust, being a New York vehicle.
14 thousand for 160 thousand mile car. I'll take the bus first.
Why didn't Scotty use the Wi-Fi hotspot function of his smartphone (that's better than an old Toyota navigation system).
We bought our 2007 Rav4 new. Other than exterior cosmetics it's in the same condition that it was when we drove it off of the lot.
Some tire shops will shave a new tire down to match the other 3 so you won't have to buy all 4 new.
14k?? wow
I’ve got an ‘08, 111K, runs great…
Happy Friday from Hawaii. It’s 0935.
The rav 4 with 3.5 V6 is a rocket ship
You can probably hot spot your cell phone to get that scanner to work anywhere.
Scotty, you could use the WiFi hotspot on your mobile phone for that scan tool. You don't need your domestic internet in that man cave.

Daddy when are you going to do Scotty come on live stream probably today maybe at 2:00 a.m.
Any Toyota or Lexus made in Japan will always be a better car…
They make cars to a higher standard there.
I have a 2015 Rav4. It is a great car, but is slightly diferent than yours. It is a 2.0 liters, CVT. Do you know this model?
There is no such thing as a 6-speed or 10-speed continuously variable automatic transmission. Just CVT or 6-speed or 10-speed automatic transmission.
The 2.0 liters with CVT was sold in Brazil and some other contries.
@@felipelomando if brand new 0KM/miles make sense however used with cvt and 2.0 L those rebuild or modified manufacturing

That RAV4 looks cool with those color matched trim pieces.
Used car market is messed up these days. 150K Tacoma with 2wd, manual transmission, and a crew cab… “13000K is the lowest I’ll sell it for”. I don’t care how great a car it is you’re over 150k and it’s 20 years old
It's a good car, but 14k for 168k miles this poor guy got screwed.
I’m starting to question your judgment Scotty mileage is way too high
160K is nothing. Try 250-300K and up. That's high mileage.
My 250,000 mile Prius is still running like a clock.
I think this puts Scotty at 14 vehicles now.
oil change intervals are a problem when I look for used Toyota.
I'm seeing the same thing when I look at Carfax reports for used Toyotas. I do not like these 10K+ mile oil change intervals!
I have a 2016 RAV4 best vehicle I’ve ever owned, I love it. Haven’t had any issues.
Thanks for this video. Scan tool looks like it’s running Android! Re: internet, guess you could always use the hotspot on your phone if WiFi is too far away, if you have service.
