    I like the minimal lighting as it makes it more stealth kinda like its name implies, Phantom. If my daily route took me through sketchy areas I might not want to draw attention. If I want more light I could always wear headlight.

      Haha, I have had similar thoughts. I would love to try the Klima on forest trails. The Phantom suspension is a bit stiff for me.
      But I do absolutely love the Phantom throttles. Being able to ride at very slow speeds and having the regen throttle would be hard to leave behind.

      I compared what I thought of both the Klima and the Phantom V4x, pros & cons of each, in a post above. Rather than post it again, give it a read ( a reply to "davidpeters2342" ) & see if any of that is new to you or would make you reconsider either brand...? Klima's range, acceleration & rain-resistance are huge pluses, but lack of UL Certification for the battery, dedicated regen braking of the Phantom make it easier to cope with the Phantom.

  • @NunchucksHabit
    @NunchucksHabit Před 23 dny +1

    I have a V3 Phantom, have a little over 3600kms on mine. 10 mins of maintenance weekly & mine feels brand new. Range is surprisingly good, but that could be because I'm getting more creative with using ECO mode. I'm hoping I can upgrade my V3 to the tubeless tires & improved throttle/regen levers & enjoy peace of mind while I save up for the Apollo Pro I've been hoping to get. I've been considering other brands/models, but I continue to find that proper maintenance of my Phantom has kept it working great. I absolutely hate changing tires, having pinched so many tubes - but I'm so in love with the dedicated regen thumb lever, I don't ever want to squeeze brake pads over a disc again - unless it's in emergency.
    If the V4x was available in IP55, I'd get it before a Klima - even with some of the old-scene hardware. Plus, I know these things are built in China, but I still like to support a fellow Canadian company when I can. Appreciate your review, I had no idea about the V4x - of all the spam I get from Apollo, the stuff that would make me shove my money at them is kept quiet. The tires with tubes, the weak headlight and the dim LED screen are all features of an outdated design.

    • @NunchucksHabit
      @NunchucksHabit Před 13 dny

      @@CountGlizzy I tighten every bolt I see. I open the stem and tighten those bolts. I put white lithium silicone on the stem, suspension & hubs. I fill the tires to 50psi every day before riding. I tighten the lugs that hold the wheels on. The bolts that hold the silver rims on - tighten those often! They will be loose, even with blue loctite. Before storing it in the winter, I clean it thoroughly - using an old toothbrush for the shock springs, etc. Just rolled over 4020kms this morning. Still getting ~30kms out of 50% battery with only partial eco mode. The battery often lasts longer than I find it comfortable to stand for. An hour of aggressive riding is about all I like to ride at once.
      It's only been in heavy rain once, light rain 3 maybe 4 times.

    Apollo v4x vs nami klima? What are your thoughts on which to get?

    • @ScootWithMike
      @ScootWithMike  Před 25 dny +1

      I often think about the Klima and if I should have gone for that instead. I actually do quite a bit of forest trail riding, so that's big points for the Klima's superior suspension.
      But I'm so used to the smooth regen throttle on the Phantom, I think it would be really hard to give that up. Also, in my experience, Apollo customer service has been great to work with. I know you see a lot of bad stuff online, but I have not had that experience.

    • @NunchucksHabit
      @NunchucksHabit Před 23 dny

      I have just over 3600kms on a Phantom V3 & the #1 thing that puts the Klima over Phantom V4x is that you can ride it in the rain. Klima is also considerably faster accelerating, but ultimately around the same top speed. My Phantom accelerates up any hill I point it at, and I'm 200lbs + often heavy knapsack. Nami is the best production scooter in the industry right now, but they also haven't changed much at all in 3 years. Apollo's gone through LOTS of change, innovation & improvement. You have to get good at routine maintenance to keep the Phantom quiet and reliable, but I'm talking basic stuff like tightening every possible bolt and lubricating suspension/stem joints to keep them from squeaking.
      I'm not sure how bright the LED screen is on the Klima, but its headlight is 2k lumens - twice as bright as the one on the Phantom. The LED screen of the V3 Phantom is basically invisible - totally invisible - if you're wearing sunglasses - and its headlight is "be seen", not "see in the dark". I don't judge it on that though, I bought an extra headlamp for nighttime riding - but the difference in getting noticed is very obvious if you turn your headlight on all the time. It activates daytime brake lighting too. We often have to get into traffic, especially in intersections, and our visibility from behind isn't great without improvements. Klima weighs about the same. Klima's range is also considerably better - allegedly.
      Two drawbacks of the Klima, though:
      1) Klima has regen braking but it isn't dedicated - it's incorporated into the regular brakes. I put hydraulic brakes on my Phantom for peace of mind - the regular disc brakes on a Phantom are nothing short of awful. I use my dedicated regen braking (has its own vertical lever) 100% of the time. Crank the regen settings to '10' (100%) and braking is FAR superior for PLANNED stops - but note that immediate, unplanned emergency stops are NOT effective with regen braking. Always have a very healthy set of hydraulic brakes to rely on in emergencies. I can't stress enough how, once you get used to it, just how good the dedicated regen is. I stop far later than I would with hydraulics due to the smooth buildup of non-skid braking power in both wheels - with no disc wear. I'm on the same set of brake pads (on their first adjustment, even!) for over 3000 kms.
      2). Klima's battery is not UL Certified. For most places in Canada, a UL certification will not guarantee your landlord will allow your scooter to be stored & charged in your apartment - but it will certainly help convince them & their insurance companies that your battery is NOT on the list of dangerous batteries re-furbed or sold as new by shady "burn & re-sell under a different tax #" companies. With the snap of his fingers, a landlord could tell you you're not allowed to have an E-scooter in the building, nor can you keep it in your car or parking space. Preemptively informing them your scooter is UL Certified can be the difference.
      Not a drawback but it is to me - I don't like the archaic 'trigger' throttles like the Klima. I much prefer the vertical paddles for throttle + regen.
      IP55 rating & better range of the Klima is a huge plus.
      Dedicated regen of the Phantom is a huge plus.
      It's a tough call for me, not sure if my indecision adds to yours or if it helps...but I'm happy to answer questions.

      I want tubeless because I'm always worried about a blowout - 10" tires, going ~65km/h and having the front tire 'pop'? No thank you. That said, I top my tube tires every day to 50psi and I've never had a flat or even a leak - in over 3600kms on my V3. I change the tires every 1000kms or so, I run them pretty close to bald before changing them.

    • @NunchucksHabit
      @NunchucksHabit Před 23 dny

      I used to have just one, on my left, but even with makeshift mirror-stem suspension, I found it rattled too much. I found small wing-mirrors too small, and big ones just got in the way with parking or accidental tipovers. I was hoping there'd be a solution where a GoPro with anti-shake tech could be mounted in the rear & transmitted real-time to a smaller screen on the dash, or even to my cellphone, which could act as a secondary LED screen. That way you'd have a constant, steady, wide-angled, live view of the back.

    A replacement battery is half the cost of the scooter at $1000 and they are super finnicky and need to be charged very carefully. Highly prone to catching fire and if they do, KACHIIING!

      I haven't had to change a tire yet, but you're right that it will be a lot easier with the old style split rims. However, a lot of people seem to prefer the self-healing tubeless style, and it looks like most high end scooters are going that way now.
