I asked them about this about 2 weeks ago when I got my R9 + CS. I liked the look of the wheel that comes with the R5 bundle. Glad to hear that they are going to update.
Probably minus the Bluetooth compatibility.
Hard to even get an R5 bundle that's in stock in the UK,but i would love to see an R9 bundle with a desk clamp still as that interest me more.
i was going to buy a T300RS GT because Moza's R5 base has uncertainties with its wheel compatibility when it came out. good thing i held off because i really wanted Moza's R5 bundle as my entry to sim racing.
but at this point, i'll still hold off on my purchase as Thrustmaster will announce their DD on November 14.

I have had the R5 for a couple of months now and do like it. You are right. The brake has no resistance at all. That definitely makes it hard to race competitively. So, definitely get the upgrade kit.
They have come out with the V2 revision for the gs wheel. So now we have a different option for a wheel. I have it ordered. I am waiting on it so I can give it a try. I have also found a few mod kits for the R5 wheel as well, and that is cool for those that dont want to spend $560 for the gs wheel. I love Moza's stuff and would recommend the R5 to anyone getting into Sim Racing. Cheers đ»
guys i am so glad that i found this wheel and already preordered it. i searched for so long for a suitable upgrade to my first and only wheel the t150 i already know i wont regret my choice :D. i also ordered the perfomance brake "damper" ... cant wait anymore !!! đ€Ż

@@v36glo little Update: i couldnt be happier. the ffb strength is surprisingly strong when coming from a t150. i can imagine higher torque would still make a bigger difference but its absolutely suitable for my driving style and i dont regret a buck invested in this. i added the CM-Dashboard display to my setup which is great to(only tire temps are not reading in acc everything else is fine) and could clean up my HUD on screen with it.
for everyone that considers a step up its a full recommendation.

I watched the 'Race beyond matter' Moza R5 review and he seems to have a new moza RS V2 wheel which works on the R5 base as well. If this is true it would appear, hopefully that Moza's new wheels will be compatible across all bases.đ€
I bought this bundle a month ago and added the pedal mods and bought the cs wheel and hgp shifter and the e brake its so awesome been playing ACC on pc its so good
I think Moza definitely is making a mistake here with changing the connection points of the wheel and base. Whatever you feel about Fanatec, you can't deny that one of the best things they have going is that they have only one ecosystem. That means that if I wanted to get different wheel rims for PC, I can buy any wheel rim and I know it will work on whatever Fanatec base I have. If you're on console, yeah, that's a little different story. Moza here is making it harder for customers to grow with the r5.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm a fairly new sim racer and looking to get the R5 bundle to upgrade from my Thrustmaster TMX but I would rather be able to switch wheels based on what discipline I'm doing.
Most if they grow out of an r5 wheel they will have grown out of the base as well. Walks on in is the used resale market for the old r5 and a fresh new r9 + one of their nicer wheels.
I bought the angled mounting bracket and drilled holes in my stand to fit the base it works great
I've owned a CSL DD and now this and it's so much better than my CSL DD. Much smoother, quick release, table clamp is much better, just more solid. Pedals are poor and lack of load cell option is problematic, however the brake upgrade IS is a complete game changer for the pedals and really should be included as standard but I know why it isn't trying to keep the price down.
Get this over a CSL DD for sure unless you own loads of fanatec stuff already.
Thanks for the great review! I'm considering splurging and getting myself the R9 bundle with the CS wheel and maybe upgrading to the FSR down the road. I know the FSR is compatible with the R9 but will Moza's future wheels will be compatible with the R9? Or is the r5 style QR the way they're going to be going now? In which case the r5 would be more future proof?
Brakes into the base and pin connection to the wheel. Looks like Moza might be chasing console compatibility. If they get a license maybe a couple of console compatible wheels will be added to the Moza R5 range. I'm guessing the pins are for the possibility of console chips.
I have been looking at this bundle myself and was pretty much set on getting it but I am a little concerned that you mentioned that only 2 screws line up with the NLR WS 2.0 - is it secure with only 2?
Comparison between the srp lite and g920 pedals would be a good comparison as I would imagine alot of people looking at this bundle are upgrading from the g920 like my self
I had Logitech G920 and with custom FFB setting available from people on the net my R5 is disappointingly not as good. No matter what advice I follow I can't get the R5 wheel to be as good as I had my G920 and the brake pedal sucks
@justplayingnz6460 I just got my r5 a week or so ago I can't speak on the pedals as I have fanatec csl elite v2s but the r5 I love made some slight adjustments to the base setting and good to go
@@02bluehawk Automobilista2 is sort of OK but AC just seems vague and rubbery instead of firm. I think part of my problem is that my settings on the G920 had been arrived at by a long process over years and CM and CSP added to the quality with extensions to Assetto Corsa. I'm not saying the R5 is bad it just didn't meet my expectations I suppose.
@justplayingnz6460 I could see that I haven't done really any grip racing sense I've gotten my r5 just drifting and you don't need the fine details in drifting
I bought this setup and as per all of the reviews, I ordered the Brake pedal performance kit but honestly, I wish I saved my money. I don't have a full SIM rig, I just connect the steering wheel to my desk and put the pedals on the floor. With the standard springs, the pedals already wants to slide away from you so you have to put something behind them so that they can't move and now that I have installed the brake performance kit, it's just ridiculous. You have to push the pedal so hard that it's not practical unless you have the whole unit bolted down. It even looks like the unit is kinda twisting a bit when I push the pedal since I need to hold it down with the heel of my right foot while I push hard with my left foot. Basically if you don't have a proper rig and aren't bolting it down then forget what the reviewers are saying, save your money and stick with the standard springs. A lot of the reviewers are saying that the brake and throttle feel the same which is BS. The brake pedal is a lot firmer. Yes the upgrade kit will make it feel even harder and more realistic but if you aren't bolting it down then it won't work for you, it will just slide away the first time you step on it.
Great video. Do you need to map the wheel buttons yourself for Assetto corsa competizione? Or does wheel software have a profile mapping must important features to buttons? If not do you have a costume button mapping you can share with us? Thank you

Hey this model is concurrent of csl dd 5hm right? So technically they are the same...
So fanatec has an option of boosting power up to 8hm by connecting more powerful supply right?
I have looked out and saw that the ports are the same, so the sistem should be the same.

During Covid I went too far in sim racing - built a massive aluminum cockpit with 3 monitors, fanatec steering and pedals, Sparco bucket seat and so on. That was clearly 100 times more than what I actually needed. After Covid fuss is over, luckily I found someone who wanted to buy them from me, so I could get rid of entire rig from my flat which was a releaf. This time I spent responsibly, foldable cockpit and this Moza R5 with the chiepest Moza steering wheel and load cell pedals. It can still give you much more satisfaction than Logitec plasticky wobbling steering and potentiometer pedals, and still doesn't empty your bank account.
Hey I'm thinking of upgrading my G923. Looking at the R5 Package (Wheel Base Pedals) or the R9 base and CS wheel and use my G923 pedals the R9 is like $500nz more. I'm not super hardcore but don't want to regret not getting the better base and wheel. Appreciate any input Cheers.
I have had the R5 set incl. the lite brake kit, for about 4 months now, used the Pithouse cooling settings at radical from day one. I used the Pithouse ffb at 70% at the first 2 months and had no issues, but then I wanted to use FFB at 100% because of the feel of the car was supposed to be better at full FFB and that seemed to be true. Yet after a while of use it seemed to be the car/tire grip diminished, but what turned out to cause that feel of grip loss.
Was the overheating of the R5 base causing the FFB to be automatically dialed down, causing the in-game feel of the car to lose grip. ATM I use 70% in pithouse and this seems to be fine, no weirdness or inconsistency anymore. Hope that Moza will have a fix in the future for this heat issue causing FFB to auto-dial down, or at least be open and honest about it. Still the R5 set is value for money imho. Just be aware it can't be used at full FFB for a long time and still be consistent, have fun.
I'll wait till Moza do a R9 bundle with a load cell and desk clamp as Thrustmaster may tell us more about their DD base in November,i think Logitech's DD Pro is too big and plasticky.
Which mount are you using in this video?
I am pretty sure the compatibility issue between R5 and the rest of the ecosystem (R9+) for the wheel comes from the lack of wireless: Basically MOZA wheel pins are just used to power up the device which is then wirelesly paired to the base for data transmission, while the R5 is not at all advertised having this wireless feature. This can also be felt with the pedals going in the R5 base but not the rest, it feels like the R5 is a standalone kit and not a part of the Moza Ecosystem, and not getting the R5 wireless modules must have been a way to cheap out.
Though you can still use a good old third party wheel with NRG quickrelease connected to your PC via USB
Bluetooth is better especially with the mpi wheel paddles and buttons work great this way
Iam happy, that Moza release R9 V2, which is compatible with ES wheel, and the budget friendly GT wheel addon, I have already orbered that pack. "*The R9 V2 is compatible with all MOZA wheels." I Will check the compatibility as I receive in two weeks

It took me to the end to realize that you compared the Moza R5 to the 5nm Fanatec base. Since the 5 nm Fanatec is pretty never in stock for almost a year, I deem this as permanently not available.
Seeing the limited wheel options for the Moza R5 makes me wonder, if they really intent to go with this quick release mount and not stick to the R9s.
As you described, as someone looking to buy a setup, I am really torn about the available options.
Fanatec even the 8nm version are very rarely in stock. Do I rather spend big money now to not regret buying into an ecosystem, that is pretty much a dead end right from the start? Do I wait longer for even more brands to come up with great dd entries like Logitech or Thrustmaster? Its tough.
it's a tough decision but MOZA have really been delivering on their hardware recently.

2.Fanatec CSL DD (5nm) with mclaren gt3 v2 ,quick release adapter.
What do you prefer?
I heard that the r5 has some heating issues and in f1 game when you are cornering it loses some force feedback details.

Have you heard anything from Moza about the development of console compatibility? Specifically Xbox?
Are you sure that wheel won't work on other bases? Because their new top of the line FSR wheel has the same pin configuration and it works on the R9, R16 and R21.
The 5 horizontal pins are the same between all the wheels. They just added the 6 vertical pins to this wheel and the FSR.
Hi Rob, so we tested the R5 wheel rim on our R9 base and this didn't work, similarly we tested our own GS and CS steering wheels with the R5 base and this also didn't work. However, it looks like their latest products (like the FSR wheel which we don't have here) work on all bases, so going forward It looks like the individually released wheels will work with all bases. It's just a shame that their older wheels (which are still relatively new) appear to be incompatible with the R5 base specifically, and vice versa.

Thrustmaster and Logitech is a joke like plastic toys! Kudos to Moza! I just ordered the R5 with brake kit....I'm a big fan of how they've managed to offer such quality and performance. They need to be MORE aggressive in promoting with a dedicated Moza brand videos with instructions...
I don't get why they give you a standard pedal for the brake and then offer the same thing for the clutch as an upgrade. Why don't they sell an upgrade brake pedal, with a load cell. Then you can use the original brake pedal as a clutch pedal.

Is there a chance that a console racer could buy a R5 or R9 and use it on a console. Maybe in the future? I've heard something like that but without a official statement from Moza I'm waiting... And waiting.. And waiting.. đ

I don't get why people would want more resistance in the Brake, hell i use the Clutch as the Brake on my G923, because it's so smooth, compared to the Break witch is almost impossible to get all the way down!

It depends on what sort of racing you are doing, and whether or not you use assists such as ABS. With some games and sims, you can get away with full pressure on the brake pedal so a softer pedal makes sense, but for others, you have to be able to control the brake pedal far more precisely to avoid lock-ups and optimise braking performance. So for hardcore sims with no ABS and cars that require finesse, a stiffer brake pedal allows you to be more precise with your input level.

Hi Traxion, have you ever told Moza they should include a lite load cell option over the brake performance kit? I feel like this is a missed opportunity for them to include a load cell as an optional down the line addon. Fanatec are wise enough to make it an optional addon for their CSL Pedals so it puzzles me why Moza doesn't even have an option for people who want to try load cell with the mentioned bundle.

Moza are trying their best to make the DD market more affordable and your response to my comment is along the lines of "f*** beginners, company profit priority". And hey I don't dispute companies trying to make a profit btw.
Traxion did complain also about the brake pedal by default being bad with the default offering on the SR-P lite pedal set.
Point is, even as a beginner bundle, or more appropriately, an entry level DD bundle, have more options at the start or again as a down the line addon option. A lot of sim racers who want to try DD without breaking bank for going something like a Simucube have been waiting for something like this. At least on Moza's part have something like a step-down LC pedal to further entice enthusiasts to try entry level LC pedals. After all as some sim racing enthusiasts say, a good pedal = good feel = can shave some lap time off.
Beginners can sometimes start from mid to high end first over a G29/T300RS.

Again with the profit talk. Focus on better user experience. This sounds like defending something silly which could've been better for long term rep which in term better gains long term.

Fanatec's CSL LC addon is $140, and the R5 Bundle is $600. If Moza does something similar by making a cut down LC pedal like 50 or 45 KG load for similar price, heck around $740 is fine. (Note Fanatec CSL LC Pedal addon is 60KG max load, Moza SR-P LC Pedal included in the set is 75KG max load) Not too close to the $1000 mark? I'm talking about a pedal addon not the entire set as an option.

@Hesh Hesherson mate, Iâm critiquing for the benefit of not only Moza long term, but for also future Sim Racers who are looking into enter into the DD Ecosystem with who are looking for different options with flexibility and modularity. Also I think youâre the one having a hard time getting the point you had to talk about top tier stuff which I never even included in the conversation to begin with. By that logic of saying ârather than attempting to change what the company you decided to put outâ, youâre saying reviewers and others shouldnât critique certain decisions and stuff from companies and accept it for what it is especially if there are flaws? Now thatâs corporate defensiveness talk right here and there.

Update: MOZA has nearly doubled the size of the brake pedal spring. No "performance kit" in the box (purchased Dec. '22) but it is almost passable without it. I'm still going to get the kit, but I wish I could find it locally and skip the shipping. Odd that I could find their wheel bundle but not this... đ

I recently purchased this same exact bundle, not realizing the pedals were as basic as can be. I am very disappointed. I had high hopes for Moza, unfortunately, they failed mightily. The steering wheel also has a d-pad and buttons like those found on Xbox controllers, which make the wheel look non-seriouslike. I noticed it when my child laughed at it. I will likely the entire bundle and bought a proper kit from Simagic or Simucube.

It's somewhat concerning about the wheel compatibility between the wheelbases. There doesn't seem to be any sense in it, unless there is going to be an R5 ecosystem and then an R9+ ecosystem, and even then it's nonsensical.
This would actually stop me buying into Moza at the moment - not knowing if what I buy is future proof or at least future resistant, or if it's already obsolete.
I think that is just a R5 thing, the wheel does not appear to be wirelessly connected to the base for data, so the wheel and base lack wireless capabilities which are needed for all the rest, they cheaped aout a tad thats it, but I doubt they move away from wireless for the rest as it is easier to never have to physically accomodate for new pin layouts and just use pins for powerup
Yes like Cyclohexane said, this appears to be an R5 specific issues as it stands. From what we have picked up, their most recent individual wheel rim (FSR Formula) is compatible with all Moza bases. It's just that the first generation Moza wheels can't speak to the R5 base and the R5 rim can't speak to the other bases.
can the pedals just be used on the floor or do they have to be mounted?

Agree...for me in Portugal, makes no sense in choosing Moza 639 EUR, against Fanatec 699EUR...with delivery fees lower for Fanatec, it makes almost no diference in price. Fanatec ecosystem doesn't even compare, you can upgrade the pedals with a load cell, consoles compatibility (important because it's still the larger market, user wise or if you want to resell later), much more future proof...further more, i know what kind of support i get from Fanatec/Europe, and for almost 10 years, no complains!
My decision is made and Seal!...but good to see competition.
I am about to buy either the Moza R5 or the Fanatec CSL DD. I would choose the Fanatec over the Moza because of the bigger and approved Ecosystem an the option to upgrade the base with the Boost Kit in case the 5 NM do feel a bit too week.
The big Problem with Fanatec is the availability of their CSL DD base. Just contacted their customer service and they could not even tell me when they come back to their store.
So I may go with Moza and hope they will increase the amount of compatible wheels (especially a cheaper GT3/Formula rim)
@@juice4all Yes, i know for a fact that Fanatec, similar to other European brands, is suffering a lot with the current World situation (started with the COVID disruption), even more being a German company...hope that things change, but i doubt that it will be in a near/short future...đ
I know that they will give some updates in a very near future (next weeks October/November), but unfortunately there are things in their chain of production, that depends on other outside factors... let's see....

280 mm steering wheel diameter is a simple NO to buy this bundle, also sad that shipping cost+tax is almost the same as the price of the whole unit (to EU) so another NO to buy.

I love watching a lot of content creators videos but one thing that bugs me about 70 to 80% of you is your elitist attitude that creeps in. I am a disabled person on a fixed budget that is way lower than what I made working. I think you fail to realize that the majority of sim racers dont get to buy direct drive wheels at all let alone when they get into the thousands. I was using a t-248 for a few years and life crap came up and had to sell it. I never thought I would ever get a dd wheel but my wonderful wife bought me the R5 bundle and brake kit as well as a 275 dollar cockpit which comes in well under the competitors prices for entry level dd wheels. I personally believe they omitted the brake kit because the majority of people who upgrade to their first dd wheel kit will be at a desk and the brake pressure needs to be lighter so they dont push it all away from themselves. You get to use thousands of dollars worth of high end wheels and cockpits but not everyone can. Try to put yourself in the mind set of someone who has to make all their dollars count and would be completely happy to get all metal equipment in a beginner bundle even if the brake pedal is lightly sprung.
I never had any racing gear at all. But as someone who drives a car, those pedals and how realistic they are seem like important part of the experience, if not like one of the most.
But then again, at this price these pedals aremost likely the max you can get.
What I am interested about is if there a slightly more expensive kit with much better pedals?

Sounds like they are making changes to address the compatibility issues between different wheels and bases. So things are looking very good on that front!
with Ras1 its compatible on all console platfroms
