Thanks again, cheers Paul
I love the fact that you guys stuck together when your mate struggled to find a camping spot. That's how it should be. Another great video.
Thanks Mate ,thanks for watching, we had a great time at St Georges Basin and will definitely go down there again in summer, cheers Paul
Great to have a bunch of like minded pals to share great times with. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks Jim, cheers Paul
Baked beans WITH scrambled eggs!. Well I never. Rather you than me. Another great video, thanks Paul.
Hi Andrew, it's not that bad( even though it doesn't look good) ....really and saves on the washing up, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Paul your videos just keep getting better and better with different content. Keep them coming and thanks for your efforts. Cheers Steve
Thanks Steve...this one was a bit long but I was there for 4 nights...it was cold!
I quite enjoyed the sailing aspect of this video. I could feel the chill in the air , the bright of those blue skies , and taste the rib sticking beans. Fond memories of simple sailing pleasures were kindled. Nice
Paul in Canada
Thanks Paul, we had a great time with some real vikings thrown in, thanks for watching and if you enjoyed this one , check out my other adventures, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise You are welcome . I watch your videos. I like the one that shows an eclectic mix of small sail boats.
I wish I was able to hang out with you fellas. I enjoy your videos very much from the nature to the narration.
Take care everyone
Thanks Brian for watching, cheers Paul

My pleasure Mr Tweagle, glad you enjoyed it, cheers Paul
Great video, Paul, and shows some of Australia’s loveliness to your international sailing friends
Thanks Pete, I think we had a good time despite the wind, cheers Paul
Great to see you finally get to the basin Paul! The first time I saw your channel was on my laptop while overnighting in Swan Bay on my former boat. Hopefully the westerly will be absent next time you're there as there's plenty of good sailing to be had in the eastern end of the Basin as well. All the best! Tony.
Thanks Tony, yes I would love to get down there again in Summer there must be so much more to explore and it's less built up than Lake Macquarie. See you on the water, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
great watch as always! thanks
My pleasure and thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Sensational Paul. Looking forward to these westerly winds disappearing soon.
Thanks Craig and I'm over the rain as well, cheers Paul
Just what I needed, outstanding and great to see a Careel 18. Vikings were a bit scary !!
Thanks, yes the Viking festival is well worth a visit and great sailing in St Georges Basin, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Definitely porridge weather! Well done you and all of the Raiders getting out .. and staying out for multiple nights! Another inspiring video, thankyou!
My pleasure Gary....we had some of your Melbourne weather, cheers Paul
Wishing our winter was starting! (From parched central California)
Hi Paul, our winter's are normally dry with clear blue skies, but not normally this cold. But being on the water makes up for that, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
I live in Bermuda Dunes in Southern California. I know what you mean when you say parched I live in the desert.
So lovely to meet the raid team a bit more :) you guys are inspirational! (Well maybe not the one pot eggs and beans…)
Sorry Holly( about the beans) I was a bit lazy, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise Deb Potatoes (with ONION) might have been a good alternative... ; )
@@mikeu5380 Thanks Mike
Amazing adventure my friend your boat is beautiful sailing on the breeze and the camping experience with friends is great. I used to be a dinghy cruiser but now I have a motor boat. I miss sailing and the adventure of small boat cruising… thank you for sharing your adventures
Thanks Jake....you can always come back from the darkside and join us😄Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Thanks for the tag along Paul
18 degrees Celsius there and excess of 100° f here pick your poison
Thanks Dave for watching, cheers Paul
30 degrees tomorrow here in Japan.
I will be off for a sail around the local islands. Cheers.
Great Gary, share some video, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise Here you are, Paul. I bought a 25 footer 5years ago and brought it 200 miles down the NE coast of Japan. From hachinohe in the north to my home port of Sendai.

for cold nights - some wild campers use a couple of handwarmers slipped into the sleeping bag prior to turning in.
Good idea Steve, I'll keep that in mind for next year. I'm definitely going again, it was great fun, cheers Paul
It was a surprise to see you there mate, we ran into each other at the woodfired pizza stand!, How cold was it bbbbrrr
Hi Mick, how was the pizza? I hope you enjoyed the festival as much as we did....see you on the water sometime, cheers Paul
Hmm 🧐 “Raid” ! Had a heck of time finding the proper as definition for “Raid” in the American 🇺🇸 Webster dictionary.
I had to find the root word “Rad” that got me European n Australian useage ..
Interesting how different words develop n change in each country/society.
When I was a youth (well over a half century ago) I had an English pen pal. She used words like bobby, cinema, bonnet n so on. My mom n grandma are English so had to get them to interpret for me. I finally learned all those “lemony” words as mom called them.
Love 💕 watch all your video n learning new words n term.
Cheers Mate … Nick.
Hi yes this years viking festival is our June long weekend planning on going again, thanks for watching again, cheers Paul
Another wonderful program. Just what i needed, after crazy shifting and gusting winds while bouncing around in my wee Seahopper today. Thank you! (And those of us in Japan appreciate renaming the boat from Yellow Peril... ; )
Thanks Mike for watching, cheers Paul
Those DEB potatoes 🥔 sound yummy but checked.. sodium 🧂 is 600 mg. Guess I’ll have to pass with my ❤️ issues.. but do live mashed spuds 🥔! Those sausages sure looked delicious on the fire. Porridge is always nice ! Nice festival clips too. Papa J.
Hi we are hoping to back to the Viking festival again in June, cheers Paul
Another great video paul ..armchair tea and aussie sailing ⛵.
Glad you enjoyed it Jacko, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Love your work Paul!! Keep ‘em coming! 👍
Thanks Doug, good to get some encouragement....it takes about 4 days to put a video together, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise cheers Paul, I’d love to come on one of your cruises, I have a 1958 English, Hurley built 18ft Silhouette bilge keel sloop. She’s trailerable but I mostly keep her on a mooring in Williamstown. I’m planning a northern eastern road trip in the future, I might look you up if that would be ok.👍
@@dougmckenzie4589 That would be great Doug the more the merrier, just give me a few weeks notice when you are planning to come and I'll organise something, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise Great mate!! I’ll let you know, probably not until late Spring, In the meantime I will continue to enjoy your videos!! 👍
@@dougmckenzie4589 great
Anyway, this was a great episode, nice to see that us vikings turn up everywhere!
Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Great video!
Thanks! Khiem, cheers Paul
Thank you for a glimpse of sailing life "Down Under" :-)
Greetings from Denmark
Thanks Bent , see we have our own vikings though they are not real! Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
9C? I had a moment there. Here in Canada its still down to 9 at night and its summer. In winter down to -25!!! Enjoy what you have! Its late juneand i still havent sailed because the lakes are too cold i dont want hypothermia
Wow that's cold, I hope you get out on the water soon, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Love your videos Paul! Watch them via the kids CZcams account! Very inspiring and love to sailing in Australia vicariously. My husband built a spindrift 10 for our daughter. Now you’ve inspired me to sneak away in it by myself for a night or two. I just need to find some Deb potatoes…. Would love to meet more of the women who join!
Hi thanks for watching, Deb potato is good but they now have a new version called Smashed Sensations with veggies which is even better. I don't know if you are in Australia but it's made by continental. Yes I would love to see more partners on the water, we are really not a scary bunch...thanks again, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise I’m in Canada ( Nanaimo). So perhaps I’ll test the instant brands here and let you know if you ever make it this way ;)…
@@greenforest917 Wow a cold part of the world...post some video if you get out on the water, cheers Paul
Another great video of another great RAID. When you actually say it was cold though it must have been very cold at times!
Hi Rob, yep cold for us Sydney dwellers, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Looked like a lovely few days sailing and camping with a few other boaties, I can't think of a better way to spend a few days. As a fellow Cherry 16 owner I wish your mate Dave had a channel showing his boat and sailing it. I only just got my Cherry and haven't sailed her yet, need to do a few things first, sort out a lifting set up for the centerboard and a couple of other things, "Agrandoply" is living at my mother in laws house up on the Murray river about an hour away, so I'm a bit slow on getting the work done. Always look forward to your clips, giving me plenty of inspiration to get out on the water. Cheers Al
Thanks Al for watching, Dave also has a bit of work to do on his Cherry, next, locking the centreboard in case he capsizes and a repaint and a furler but it takes time. Thanks for watching , cheers Paul
What I have found over the years, and this is entirely dependant on the sleeping bag, is, the less you wear inside the sleeping bag, the hotter you get, Fully naked, I've actually sweated on a winters night.
Thanks Shane, I think my bag is not rated lower than 10 degrees...time for a new one, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise No probs Paulie,
I always enjoy your cruising adventures, Paul. Make's me want to hurry my own build so I can get out there too.
Thanks Mark, are you near Sydney so you can join us? cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise No, I'm near Sidney, British Columbia! Sailing to Australia in a dinghy might not be wise.
@@bakerjmark oh I agree.....
Just one question Paul. When you anchor so far out from the shore, how do you get back to her after eating ashore?
I only moor further out if I don't know the tidal drop, as I draw 44cm due to skeg keel. Whereas the other guys can run straight up on the sand.I now have an inflatable kayak which works well or in summer just wade ashore thigh deep. Thanks for watching , cheers Paul
Nice sailing adventurers. Was wondering about the red, yellow cross flag.. is it youre member/ raid flag? South sweden has also this flag. It's combined the red from Denmark and the yellow cross from Sweden.
Greetings from Fryslân/ the Netherlands. Fair winds👍🏼
Thanks Fredrik have a great Christmas in Frysian...I hope it's not too cold, cheers Paul
I think you should have bought a hat with horns, then every raid could be a Viking raid !
Thanks Phil....the mead wasn't very nice! cheers Paul
viking festival ,funny , but viking newer came to Australia , that must be a tourist from modern time ,,
Yes it's a long way from Norway on a longboat, actually I think the T.V.series is to blame. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Australia was mainly settled by English, Scottish and Irish who are all partly descended from vikings.
How risky do you think it would be to take a small boat like yours..., or maybe a couple of feet longer..., ISLAND HOPPING from say south Japan to north or central Taiwan or..., south Taiwan to north Philippines ? I am in Iceland and am able to travel overland or sea all the way to South Japan by presently operational commercial ferry, or rail but there is no commercial connection between the two aforementioned points.
Hi Roy well that's a big ask, I don't really think the Stornaway is good for ocean going voyages, but it can handle 30 knots with just the genoa and main. If you picked your weather maybe. There is a newer Stornaway 18 coming with glass hull more ballast headroom and longer. Keep an eye out on Scruffie Marine's website, cheers Paul
Do you sail in 25- 30 kts on lake?
Hi I try an avoid 20 knots if I can, 7-12 knots is the most comfortable for the Stornaway, thanks for watching, cheers Paul
Does this viking cosplay represent how vikings are seen down under? It's just that I'm from Norway and you won't see horns, make up and Hollywood vikings here as we're more into the arts and crafts of the vikings. There's even a couple of viking longships being built with authentic tools and methods nearby..
Hi, yes Vikings here are probably the result of the T.V. series which was very popular here. Thanks for watching and if you have any photos of viking ship building send them to sailingkatelouise@gmail.com, cheers Paul
These festivals aren't just vikings they also include Norman knights, Turkish oil wrestlers and even the occasional fairie from Lord of the Rings. I wouldn't get too hung up on it.
love your boat, but viking festival, loks more like larp
Hi John trust me the festival was great fun with a lot of very authentic Vikings....maybe dress ups, maybe real? Thanks for watching , cheers Paul
Why are you guys flying the Romeo flag?
Romeo or code R stands for resupply or in our case R for Raid...as in Sydney Raid, it's just an adopted emblem. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
@@SailingKateLouise Or... You can say that it is the flag of the Swedish region Skåne (Same colours, same cross)... That is more suitable when visiting a viking festival. :-)
