This is "just" a fun song about the girls wanting to eat chocolate but being a little worried worried about their weight. But, yeah those instrumentals are very, very metal and the juxtaposition with the cute vocals, lyrics and choreo was totally the point of the song and the reason why this music video went viral back in 2014. Helping them a lot tbh. It's their most "popular" song but probably not their best one.
I'm watching this while eating a KitKat (Japanese people love them, by the way). My favorite is "Dark". 😋

Considering all of the Babymetal I've covered so far, it's certainly not their best but to grab the attention of the world I'd say this was a good choice. I thought it was fun. Just good fun! I don't think they should ever worry about their weight considering they probably burn 1000s of calories per song. I think they would NEED those chocolate bars! Had I thought about it ahead of time, I should have grabbed a box of Pocky. I know there big in the anime circles. Man, now I want a KitKat!
If you ever have the inclination and time, this whole concert is worth watching (Legend 1997) start to finish. It is formatted like an old school rock opera, telling a story from start to finish of Suzuka Nakamoto sacrificing herself as a JPop idol to become a metal goddess. There is nothing like this particular concert, starting out with an operatic intro, then very pop versions of songs, more and more metal each song until the final two: a lament, and death. I think the channel named "for the fox god" has a complete remastered playlist (among others i'm sure).

This is footage from Legend 97 concert with the studio version over it the guys you see are miming playing the instruments they are called the babybones ,the music is the Kami band but you have to watch Legend 97 to understand as its a theatrical performance about their past and the Kami band have not been introduced yet that comes later in the concert building to what can only be described as an incredible finale or as the One would call it the birth of the Metal Goddess,its a visual novel done through music,dance and theatrics its quite astonishing considering Su has just turned 16 and this is her birthday party and Moa,Yui are 14 mind blowing,need to watch it all my friend and have some hankies ready for Su`s hauntingly beautiful Akatsuki unfinished its gonna get you lol 🦊

This was filmed at the Legend 1997 concert in December 2013 celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday (everybody should get chocolate for their birthday). Yui and Moa were both 14.
This is the official video so the audio is from the studio version dubbed over the live performance footage ... the live audio was better.
The guys in skeleton suits were not the Kami Band, they were known as Babybones. The Kami Band first appeared in October 2012, but BABYMETAL could not afford to have them there full time yet, so they were phased in gradually over the next 18 months or so, playing at a couple of festivals and the encores in some shows.
Legend 1997 was the last time the Kami Band only played the encores - they came on for the last 5 songs.
Babybones were on stage for show only - they were not playing their instruments, they were mainly dancing round to pre-recorded instrumentals on backing track ... there was no attempt at deception, everybody knew what they were doing and why they were there.
Legend 1997 was the final stage of BABYMETAL's separation from their parent JPop Idol group (the whole concert was like a rock opera telling the story). At their next big shows to mark the release of the first album (Budokan Red and Black Nights on 1st and 2nd March 2014) the Kami Band played the full shows and became the full time support for all live shows from there on.
The finale of Legend 1997 will blow your mind - see how they celebrated Su-metal's 16th birthday and her transition from Suzuka Nakamoto the JPop Idol to being reborn as Su-metal the metal goddess.

Thank you, my friend! I am still learning. This is my 9th BABYMETAL video and the first I've heard of Babybones. There really is nothing about Babymetal that fits into any of my metal experiences. But, it's good to learn and as a life-long student I take every chance to learn something new. This is a brand new thing- nothing like it has ever existed before. And they are constantly evolving and growing (literally it would seem) and I'm so glad to be on this journey. As much as I love learning about and understanding their beginnings, I'm even more excited about where they go in the future! And let's face it, the future is theirs! Po! 🤘🦊🤘

This song is part of what I've come to call "The Golden Age of BABYMETAL" but it also has been called quite simply the "Yui Era" (this being their music from their first two studio albums). I noticed that you've have taken in quite few BABYMETAL videos (one of which was - in my opinion - BABYMETAL doing a cover of BABYMETAL ["Road of Resistance"]), but I always recommend that reacters go back to the beginning: seeing where BABYMETAL has been will give you a better appreciation of where they are now, and how much they've changed (whether for better or worse).
I hate to break your heart but that isn't The Kami Band; those guys are the "Babybones" - mimes acting to a backing track. This was early in BABYMETAL's history and, at the time, money was an issue. However, The Kami Band did come onstage later for the encore set of this concert (see my recommendation below *).

A technical suggestion: when you pause, go back about five or ten seconds before resuming, that way you regain the flow of the song. Also, if you tap the left arrow key once, it will rewind the video five seconds (a second tap for another five seconds), and tapping the right arrow key will advance the video five seconds. Sorry Dude, that's not the Kami Band
So back when Babymetal started as a sub-project of Sakura Gakuin their Talent Agency, Amuse Inc., gave them next to no budget. This ment they did everything to a Backing Track. As they gained popularity a "Fake" band known as "Babybones" (just actors who did not actually play the instruments they held) began "playing" with the girls.
Eventually, when Amuse finally started to throw money at the group, they were able to put together the 'Kami Band' that would come on and play the 'Encore' part of the show. The Kami Band did not become the Full Time players until March of 2014 for the Budokan shows.
So what you are seeing here is Babybones miming to a backing track and the girls singing along....ALSO....unfortunately the audio for this video is not the Live audio from the concert but overdubed with the album soundtrack in post production..so not the Live audio.
One last thing to note though, this concert, the "Legend 1997" show, held to a theme that showed the progression of the group as a whole. They did this by starting the show with some of their earliest lore (neck brace) and moved right into full on "Poppy Dubstep" with flat out obvious Lipsync performance. As the show progressed and they moved further into their catalog you got songs like this..with Babybones and Backing tracks.
For the 5 song encore, out came the "Kami Band" to end the show will full on Live music.
So this concert, as a whole, was a telling of the Babymetal tale, (to that point in time) going from J-pop artist to a full on Heavy Metal Group! This show was Genius from beginning to end and a lot of Babymetal Fans don't understand just how Significant and Brilliant the Concept of this Concert truly was!!

Thank you for the info, my friend. This is a metal group like nothing I've ever experienced. I would never have thought that there were actors miming musicians on stage instead of an actual band. Remember, just about every metal band that has ever existed has been a bunch of kids jamming in their parents garage or basement. Learning cover songs, playing Battle of the Bands in their local schools and eventually writing their own songs, etc. This whole concept of a talent agency being the impetus behind a metal band is all new to me. I know there are Foxes who are more focused on the girls (after all, they are the band) but as a musician I give a lot of attention to musicians- it's just the way I am. The Kami bands are filled with highly talented people that I have a need to know about. I appreciate you filling me in on all of these aspects of the concert and the evolution of the band. @@BemusingBill Well, if the Kami Band is your focus, there is a Lot to explore there as well. With the addition of the "Wester Kami Band" (group of Western players for North American and European touring dates) there have been over 30+ players involved with the "Kami Band", though there were a core cadre of about 6 players that most of the Fans know by site..from what is now called the Eastern Kami Band (for most fans they are the group we think of when you say Kami Band - though the Western Kami's are currently the only group touring with Babymetal).
Either way, these players are on a level...hell I don't know where to place them they are so Consistently Fantastic!!
