As someone who has watched every Villa ge for years I can tell you Grealish is in no way a defensive liability. Always works, always works back, always covers his man. I wouldn't play him DCM but as a forward his defensive work has never directly led to Villa conceeding.
Crealish makes things happen. I'd pick him over Selco any day.
Maybe go to a back 3 too. Bring on Minks.

Klobby is right. You treat Grealish as if he was Maradona reborn or the next Messi, when in reality he's a nobody in football. Meanwhile a player like Sterling, who has been decisive in many situations for club and country, is disrespected for simply breathing
Sterling has been the stand out for me. Started the tournament in bad form, is being criticised for his political stance, but has carried England's attack on his own at times.
Imo, that should take nothing from Graelish's contribution though. The entire dynamic of the team changes the moment he comes on. Whilst I agree that it must be frustrating for him to play as an impact sub, England are in the final and he's getting all the credit he deserves.

That's the main reason Grealish doesn't play. His tactical awarness is poor. He drifts into different areas of the pitch vacating his position which makes it difficult to counter press.
