The slow dry time is great for paint leveling while provides for the amazing finish. It does make the job harder though, for sure. Looks nice.
True. Prep and patience are key. You’re doing great at both and the result confirms it. Great job.
Thank you so much!
Amazing how a little paint can transform! Love that shade of blue, can’t wait to see it all finished.
Thank you so much!
Scoring the tape is a great idea. Never thought of that
I just finished painting my kitchen cabinets with Benjamin Moore Advance and I laughed out loud when you said "Day 50,000 of painting the kitchen"!🤣 So true!!!! What I thought might take me a week took a solid month to finish with my space restrictions (could only work on so many doors at once) and the very long dry and cure times. Worth it in the end, but you don't realize how much surface area you are actually dealing with until you are too deep into the project to back out! Your project is looking great!
Yes!! So much space is needed. Way to go completing the project!
@@GraceInMySpace Thanks! Best of luck with the rest of your project!
I’ve experimented with Annie Sloan chalk paint on kitchen cabinets and worked out well. I put on 5 coats of Great Finishes poly and it’s held up well. The advantage of this was that paint goes on smooth and recoat times are short.
Painting my cabinets (for the 3rd time in 25 years) in on the list for fall. I did a thorough job of painting them last time but did not put a top coat on that was recommended at the time. I think paint has come a long way since then and I have been planning on using BM Advance this time so I am glad to see you recommend it.
Beautiful, what a change a color makes.
It sure does!
You used the best product for a DIY kitchen. The 16 hr recoat time shouldn’t be a deterrent to using Advance. I’ve used it for many years and have found it to be a very durable finish. Nice colour, by the way!
Beautiful job, Sarah!
Thank you so much!
Excellent video, lots of really helpful tips.
Glad it was helpful!
Great presentation- Good work!
Learnt a bunch - thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I LOVE THAT SHADE OF BLUE!
It’s a pretty one!
Good tips. Learned a few things from that. Thanks
I’m so glad!
I love that colour. Thats my wedding them colour and the colour I want in my new kitchen. Thanks for showing me I'm making the right choice🙏
Yay! Congrats!
Very pretty. I love the color too.
Thank you! 😊
It looks fantastic!
Thank you so much!
Beautiful colour ..and good job
Thank you so much 😊
This and your backsplash video was so helpful! Just bought my first home and first order of business is, you guessed it, painting the backsplash white and painting the ugly brown cabinets. Thank you :)
Yay! You’ve got this!
Lower cabinets look beautiful ❤
Thank you so much!
Beautiful I’m going to give it a try tonight
Have fun!
Great info!!
Thank you so much!
Great tutorial. I’ve learned what I’ve always done wrong! Thanks
So glad it helped!
i love your work
Thank you so much 😀
Nice!
Thanks!
The first time I watched this video I thought days 50,000, wow. It can’t really take that long. I bought three unfinished premade cabinets to make an island for my kitchen. The first weekend went really well and I got all the priming done. Then the top coats have taken forever. Mainly because every weekend since I started a month ago (yes, it’s been that long) we’ve had rain and I don’t want to mess up the actual paint. I am also sanding any areas that are not perfect. It really does take a lot more time than you think. Today we finally have a sunny day and I’m hoping to get this project completed.
Good luck!
I’m not a DIYer. Your skill set blows me away , Sarah! BTW, my iPad shows your kitchen a burnt orange, so I can only imagine the beauty of the new paint color. Great job!
Thank you so much!
Beautiful job. Not sure I would have the patience.
Thank you! 😊
Thank you thank you thank you
You are very welcome
Great job and good tips. Though, I've heard multiple professionals say it takes at least a month for paint to fully cure and to be very careful until then.
Yes! Great advice.
Good thing no one uses our guest bathroom where I am going to paint the vanity. It will REALLY cure.
Love the color! On a different note, where did you get that awesome rug?
Thank you so much! The rug was from a local shop ☺️
What roller did you use?
Looks great!! Did you use a latex or enamel paint?
I used enamel
How did the Kilz 3 workout? Dozens of videos I've seen suggest using BIN shellac based primer. Did the Kilz 3 work out ok? Great vid by the way!
Yes! Kilz is always a winner for me. BIN shellac is a premium option but I prefer kilz for its ease of use and cleanup.
@@GraceInMySpace Thanks!
My cupboards are a combo of wood (doors) and pressed board. Would I do anything different for the pressed board?
Shellac primer might be better for pressed wood.
You're brave not using a cover on the floor! Great job!
Thank you!
That paint is the slowest drying paint ever. The project takes forever.
Worth it for the durability!
I’ve always heard to sand in between coats of paint?? I didn’t see you do that. Should I sand or not?
You can sand lightly to remove any imperfections. I only do it if there is visible issues.
What did you put your doors on to paint them? What is the item or object that you used to balance your doors on while painting them? I can't tell what it is?
Just a bowl 😉
Do the rollers leave a texture?
Some rollers will but with the right paint and roller you can get a smooth finish!
Beautiful Colour and I love that your meticulous, caulking and nice tip on inside doors first😅
Thanks so much! 😊
Do we sneed to sand the cabinets?
You can! But deglosser is what I used instead.
How do they call that smoke screen grey? Ugh, choosing colour is so frustrating
The name definitely doesn’t match the color in this instance.
Do you know how to fix cracked paint on the cabinets?
Depends on how they were finished the first time. You can try sanding any loose paint off, filling with wood filler, sanding smooth, prime and repaint.
How much paint did you need for that project?
Two gallons ☺️, but the second wasn’t fully used.
@@GraceInMySpace OK thanks
Green?
I don't know what kind of blue is that.
All the details are in the description! ☺️ Cabinet Paint Color: Smokestack Grey, BM
Advance isn't an "Alkyd" (per your description) , it's a waterborne (cleans up with water) ...... "Alkyd" means "oil paint Mineral Spirits clean up"
It is a waterborne alkyd. It even says it directly on the can 😉
@@GraceInMySpace we're both right then , however the word "Alkyd" means oil , urethane is suspended in water based chemicals , so in the case of Advance it is WATERBORNE ALKYD which is very different from "Alkyd" ...... So the term Waterborne is more accurate than just saying Alkyd .... However , you are right , it is called a Waterborne Alkyd , so technically you are right ..... I am thinking "thinning and clean up process" water vs mineral spirits ..... Advance cleans up with water
@@GraceInMySpace Next time try Emerald , dries in an hour , same stuff , much better to work with , just as durable
Thats too long to dry
Works great for me!
@GraceInMySpace I know but I don't want to wait that long for my cabinets to dry. Do you what paint brand is faster to dry?
Sherwin Williams emerald urethane is similar to that paint but recoat time is about 4 hours
