    I am blown away about some of the comments here. People are insanely rude. I'm a new follower and loved it. I'm tired of boring, lifeless, 'to the point' videos where the content actually stinks. You were funny and knowledgeable. How can anyone say anything negative to that? 😱

    One thing I like about your video is that you make it simple. I’ve watched a few cabinet painting videos and they are like 500 steps sanding doors, take doors off, spray guns, pour fillers, more sanding, taping, coat after coat, on and on. I’m thinking after all that work it would be better to just go buy new cabinets. But you made it pretty simple so thanks!

    Just a couple suggestions. Use naphtha to clean off any grease/oils, useing a (red) scotch brite pad and paper towel. Then sand with 320 sandpaper. If you're going over existing paint/finish use BIN PRIMER (shellac primer) let dry for about a day then sand/vaccum before painting.
    Now you can use paint, and it can look great. However even paint that claims its durable isnt going to hold up in the long run. Cabinets are high use/touch spots. Chips and scratches will start showing up sooner or later.
    Not to mention if you dont do a good job cleaning and sand/vacuum between coats you risk and uneven and dirty finish risking the paint failing.
    The alternative to paint is not the most diy friendly but its infinitely better than paint. The alternative is tinted conversion varnish, you can get it at places like Sherman Williams and in any color you want.
    Now this method requires a little investment, as although it's not "meant" to be brushed its can be brushed on panels and face frames Using a mini roller and 2in brush on the panels (ROLL FIRST THEN USE THE BRUSH TO REMOVE THE TEXTURE FROM THE PANEL) Then use the 2in brush to paint the face frames. It has an incredibly short working time (less than 5 min once applied). This might make it a little harder to apply but so much easier to work around imo.
    For the doors I would definitely remove them and spray them with the conversion varnish.
    Now okay I know this is a lot. Probably more than you feel comfortable with, I wont lie and say its super easy but having seen the results of both systems I encourage people to put in the extra time/investment/research and go with conversion varnish. This way your kitchen will look incredible until well after the color you chose has gone out of fashion.
    Source; its what I do for a living.

    Thank you my love! My husband and I built a house two years ago here in southern Illinois. Nothing but cornfields. When we got our kitchen cabinets, I didn’t want to paint them at that time, because we’ve been building for 3 years and I painted the entire two story house, and well, we were tired. I wanted to wait and now is the time. I’m doing a light gray for the main cabinets and I am painting my island a calming blue. I am excited! Thank you for all these tips. We have the same cabinetry. So beautiful. Great video!!

    I've followed her tutorial, used that paint, and that roller cover, with FANTASTIC RESULTS! I have now painted 3 large pieces of furniture with the Benjamin Moore Advance Waterborne Alkyd Paint, 2-3 coats on each piece and I STILL have 1/3 of a gallon left! This is the BEST PAINT.
    I have also painted another dresser with it, colored "Raspberry Sorbet" with beautiful results. (it did take 3 coats) I have recommended This paint to everyone wanting to paint furniture or cabinets. We will be using it on our Kitchen and bathroom Cabinets very soon. THANK YOU SO MUCH For sharing your time and knowledge!

    I loved your video, you gave really good information. When I was first married with no experience we tried to refinish an old dated kitchen. First my husband polyurethane a black cat hair to one door. No, No, No! Next we put the new handles in the wrong place near the ceiling. I even picked the wrong color for the walls and we appeared to be standing in a dark closet. Now all of it is so funny but at the time it wasn't. With all of our mistakes when we finished it looked really good. I'm so glad I found you. I enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing.

    We are in the middle of painting wood cabinets, we decided to clean, sand, primer, paint. One tip for primer make sure you get enough or do a second coat if needed, its much easier to work with versus the paint. We are also using the Benjamin Moore Advanced primer and satin paint as you did. It's working well so far, about 3-4 days left of doing ours. We are going from a medium darkness wood to white so the primer is very important.

    I LOVE Green Frog tape!! I buy the 1.8 in width. I have taped every trim around windows, doors front and back, base trim near floors. That's a lot of tape, but well worth it. I'm finally down to last trim in kitchen. House is 2300 sf. I first painted ALL walls inside then worked on trim. Fortunately we were removing carpet upstairs and had wood floors downstairs which I removed all 1/4 round and replaced with new. New vinyl plank flooring upstairs in 2 baths and laundry and new base trim and 1/4 rounds in those rooms. I'll be repainting cabinets in those rooms and replacing countertops, all this I'm doing as a stay at home mom, so ladies, know that it can be done. I've saved thousands of $$ in labor costs. Started in october, most done by Feb. Took a break, now finishing up. Take your time with the frog tape and you will get great results. I really like Benjamin Moore paint, and can't wait to try the new alkoid for cabinets.

    This Advanced paint by Benjamin Moore is the key. It self levels and that means it doesn't show brush marks. I have nowhere to lay down cabinets or even hang them. I hate poly. Used it in Montana to go over oak cabinets and it dripped so much if I did not take off the doors and lay them down I had to sand and sand the drips out. Hey, Girl dance in the kitchen! We need to have some fun! I am painting the brown floors too with Home floor paint. That is a couple of videos too!

      how did the floors turn out? I'm experimenting with rustoleum floor coating (a short hall and small bath) but want some kind of visual texture for the very large kitchen/dining area...maybe something like a rag roller of 2 similar colors over the base...otherwise every drip and crumb will show!

    I suggest sanding between each coat. That will help with brush marks and stippling (it won't eliminate them, but it will help).

    Thanks for this amazing tutorial. I followed your instructions to a tee and they look beautiful. Wish I could add a pic. One thing, however, is the velour rollers did not roll on smoothly so I just got a special brush for cabinet painting and it did the trick. Wish I knew what I was doing wrong with the velour. Would have loved a bit of video of your actually painting. ☺️👏🏻👍🏼. Thanks again.

      I know Sonia Miller of JunkMonkeyPant.com Uses the Valore rollers for their truck paint that they make. Which I use their their chalk paint on a lot of projects. I haven't watch this video yet. But you might wanna also check out Sonya and see what is happening there also. So then I see what's going on with this one. Good luck

      Today at Jen's House I’ve actually not done that type of treatment on cabinets, but I did on some furniture pieces. I used a glazing medium with a bit of paint. Brushed on and wiped off with a cotton rag. I got the glaze at Lowes, but it’s been a few years.

    Hi Cindy. Your steps and supplies list are making me believe it’s possible to paint my cabinets with nice paint, and not have to resort to using a kit! Benjamin Moore has so many gorgeous colors too! I have cheap-y honey okay cabinets with noticeable grain. Do I need to use grain filler if I’m using the paint and primer you recommend? Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!

    Congratulations you are the first person to paint cabinets that I’ve seen who uses a velour roller but you might not be aware that Sherwin Williams colors to go do not contain some of the additives that their regular paint contains such as bonding agents. Just because it comes in a quart size bottle doesn’t mean they don’t make it in massive quantities and they are able to sell it so cheaply because it’s not true paint, but your work looks great very professional looking, I’ve been painting for 40 years so I know.

    • @ACottageGirl
      @ACottageGirl  Před 6 měsíci +3

      I only used the Color to Go as a base for making a chalk paint/primer. I'd never use it as regular paint for the reason you stated...no bonding. And I love velour rollers! Thanks for the kind comments!

    OK, so I'm so curious as to a sealer? Would you not want to put a sealant like a polyacrylic or some sealer over the paint?

  • @ourhighstreethome9177
    @ourhighstreethome9177 Před 4 lety +2

    Thank you for the information advanced Benjamin Moore. I’ve been thinking about painting my cabinets for a couple of years and I do not want to use chalk paint. Well at the very least I’m on the fence about it. Do you ever use any kind of topcoat? I’m assuming you do not have to stand in between your paint coats because the paint is self-leveling. Do you always prime first even if you use a deglosser? Also what do you recommend for cleaning your cabinets with if you do use this paint?
