I really appreciated your videos. They helped me make my purchasing decision. Today I visited my local ebike shop and put a deposit down on an Aventure 2 to be picked up this weekend. Sorry I didn’t use your link to make the purchase directly through Aventon, but wanted to create the relationship with the shop and get it assembled with many of the accessories you’ve demonstrated. Temps will be in the high 40s in New Hampshire this weekend and I plan to take it on my first “aventure”! I’ve been riding mountain and road bikes for years but getting into my 50s now and this seems to be a good progression. Thanks again!

Beautiful video of Chicago Scott. I generally like riding away from traffic, you make it look interesting. Except for the folks stepping out in front of you🙄. Using the battery powered gloves you reviewed-game changer for cold weather riding.

Great video, I am always impressed with how well you put these things together. On the pedal strike. If you are standing up on the petals, it is more intuitive that one foot forward, and one back, thus avoiding pedal strikes. If you are seated, it is more intuitive to have 1 foot down and 1 foot up. That leads to more pedal strikes I guess really that would be called a foot strike. Just something I picked up along the way. As I get more, ahem, mature, I find I have to remind myself to get standing in an aggressive position on the off-road.

Thanks for another helpful video. I'm getting anxious for warmer weather to arrive in New Hampshire so I can get back on my bike regularly, and excited to replace my V1 Aventure with the V2. I'll make sure to use your referral link when it's time to place my order. It was warm enough (~45F) to go for a short ride yesterday...short because, with 63% charge on the battery, I could only manage a total of eight miles before the battery was exhausted. So my cold weather experience wasn't nearly as good as yours.
The shifting frequency you mention sounds fine to me. My riding style tends to be staying in the same PAS level most of the time and shifting to try to keep my cadence more or less the same. If there's a steep hill coming up, I do PAS up in anticipation of needing the extra motor help. I expect that the Aventure.2 and its torque sensor will likely have me modifying my riding style and I look forward to checking that out.
When you mentioned Trip A and B, I had to go back to the V1 manual and quick start guide to see if I had overlooked something. I'm happy to know that the V2 displays Trip A and B data, even though it seems a little clumsy to access, because the V1 doesn't...it only has current trip data.

I would prefer just seeing my current trip data. Thats what I am used to the V1. It would have made videos like this easier to track. I wasn't able to figure it out until I came back and read the manual (since I figured it worked like the V1) and had to use Strava to track the ride. I guess I could have also used the Aventon app but my trust in that is not as great.

I think you find that you will not have to switch PAS levels to make it up that big hill with the torque sensor. Once it feels you cranking harder it will just give you more assist. This is a feature I do enjoy.

I just ran an experiment on my Level 1. Over the past 3 days, I rode it 42 miles(GPS) and still had 2 bars left. Most was at PAS 2, with a few miles on both 1 and 3. Never used PAS 4 or 5. Mostly level. I never use the throttle except when starting when stopped. I’ve got 3,700 trouble free miles on my baby. As far as I know Aventon is the only brand with a 2 yr warranty, I’ve got 4 months left. I put an adjustable stem and put mustache handlebars on it for comfort. I was considering a cushioned seat like a Cloud 9, but since most of my daily trips are only 10 miles or so, I’m putting that off. Today was 25 miles and I can’t handle to stock saddle. I subbed.
Thanks for the feedback Mark. I know that when I test these bikes out for distance, I try to put them in the worst case scenario (highest PAS) and stuff like that. It's great to hear from others out there letting us all know the distance you guys are getting on your bikes. A suspension seat post and a decent seat makes a world of difference. I am not a fan of the stock Aventon seats that they put on the Aventure, but I don't mind it (for some reason) on my Level 2.

Although I'm not near Chicago, it isn't a long drive, so I'm going to keep that bike shop in mind, after I decide what e-bike to buy. I drove to Peoria to look at one, so whats a few more miles to Chicago? 😉

Aventon Aventure, Biktrix Stunner X, Trek Allant 8S, and Electra Vale Go! ...... but Trek and Electra are very expensive, have no throttle and are narrow tires; Electra is slowest although I like the retro appearance best of all (I only got 20 mph on Electra test ride, Trek was 25 mph)).
I am just finishing up a restoration of my 52 year old Schwinn Collegiate. Before I do an e-bike purchase I want to spend some time riding the regular bike. It has been sitting in garage since about 1985. Tires would not hold air, and when Schwinn went out of business, I couldn't find proper tires for mine. Just found them last month, after an intense 6-month search.

@0:37 TIP: Anything you bungee to your rack will stay on better if the bungee cord is run under the rack to clip on the other side. That way the load is less likely to shift and flop over. If the cord is long enough I would wrap around a second time. And the load is held tighter running the cords directly under the rack. My two cents ;-D (learned this the hard way commuting to work)
What you couldn’t see is that I had run the straps of the bag thru the rack in 4 places. That added with the bungee cords. There was zero shifting. Great tip for those who don’t know!
Hello Mr. Scott. Battery heated gloves, I’ll have to look up. Is sim available for socks? I ride down close to zero degrees, four layers on, insulated pack boots, a “Comfy” huge one size fits all zipper-less extra warm over the top of all layers, hooded jacket, really blocks the wind. Aventon Sinch 20” wheels or similar sized Lectric 3.0XP. I’m not light weight, so generally it’s like 20 miles summer and 14 winter, I like higher assist so drains battery faster. The one cold temp issue was “frozen” battery refused a charge, and it needed to warm up in the house for a good number of hours first. Agreed on newer Aventon display!! Who needs trees saved, etc. gimmick. The cheaper Lectric is backup bike for when parts and repair needed for the Sinch which has approx 9,000 miles now. But Lectric display is black and white, large easy info to read on the fly, Zero to 5 assist, not words hard to read on the fly, if worked too hard off trail, it flashes “HOT” and this is excellent, not only voltage of battery, but current. When the battery is closer to depleted, I put it on current. At assist 5 if it keeps putting out 19 amps, is good. If starting to max out at 17 and dropping, well, an obvious need for recharge. I have second battery too, coming for for Aventon Sinch and will use bungee cords to make it held tight. I look forward to going further sans range concern. Thanks for video. Cold isn’t bad, avoiding road salt is the trick. And ice !! For hotter days, I have special cooling “Arctic Cool” t-shirts, wetted to sopping wet and feels 8 degrees cooler with breeze of my biking speed. Adios.
New subscriber. Nice video, I just got the A2, do you need to slam the battery in to prevent it falling out as well? Also the bike randomly turned off one day while riding, came back on by pushing the buttons again, only happened once so far. Thanks for your content.
I have never had an issue with any of my batteries falling out. I do that so I know it clicks in. You have 3 screws underneath the bike where the battery clips in. You might need to adjust them a little bit to ensure your batter fits in there tight.

This bike can hit 40 miles on lower PAS levels for sure. A suspension seat post does help a ton! This is the one I have on my bike as i really like how it performs but it also doesn't look weird on it. amzn.to/49aPyw4
Got the bike a couple days ago. I rode it 13 miles this morning mostly flat ground and like 95% in Eco mode. I had 86% battery left after 13 miles.

Scott you need one of those electric powered train horns that they have for cars. They're only about 2 inches by 1 inch, but they blast. You would have to find some small 12-volt to power it though.

This test states to me, that a second battery would be recommended just for the insurance factor. Does a new battery cost around $600. Good stuff Tim from Missouri Go Chiefs
The battery from Aventon for the Aventure is $499. Then another $13 for a matching face plate. Currently, they don't have matching face plates for the V2 models. I do expect them by summer. Thanks for watching!
HEY SCOTT, GREAT VIDEO, QUESTION, DURING THIS TEST HAD YOU UNLOCKED THE BIKE TO A CLASS 3 ( 28 MPH ) OR WAS IT STILL CAPPED AT 20 MPH. I JUST BOUGHT AN AVENTON AVENTURE 2 ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND LOVE THIS BIKE. I'M IN CANADA SO I HAVE LEFT IT AS A CLASS 2 BIKE AND HAVE BEEN RECORDING ALL MY DATA IN A SPREAD SHEET. THIS PAST WEEKEND I RODE THE BIKE FOR 34 MILES AND THAT WAS GOING FROM 100% CHARGE DOWN TO 23% CHARGE. THE TEMP WAS ABOUT 70 DEGREES AND WAS A MIX OF TERRAIN. I STUDIED A LOT BEFORE BUYING THIS BIKE AND I'M GLAD I DID BECAUSE MY OTHER CHOICE WAS THE RAD ROVER 6 PLUS AND NOW I'M FINDING OUT THERE WAS SOME REAL POWER ISSUES WITH THAT BIKE NOT TO MENTION THE LACK OF A TORQUE SENSOR. Thanks for reaching out. I do have the bike unlocked to class 3. Yes, I was flying the drone. I have a dji mini 3 pro. Upgraded from the mini 2 as I wanted the ability for it to follow me and crash sensors (I need those for sure). You have some good drone shots as well.

is 20psi normal for street riding? Is the torque sensor located where dirt cant mess it up? Thanks!
For fat tire bikes the Max is 30psi. I ride mine at 20psi to help with the crappy Chicago roads. But, it's pretty normal. I am not really sure where that torque sensor is. If its where I think it is, it right where the cranks go into the shaft on the side.

Xo do you like the cadence sensor or the torque sensor better.
I go thru phases... I sent years using a cadence sensor. I am very comfortable and familiar with it, but with a torque sensor, I feel more connected to the bike. You have to put more effort in while pedaling but something about that I dig. With that said, I do find I bounce between both. Out of my top 4 favorite bikes, 2 are cadence and 2 are torque.
How does one change the crank length ? I was told by the dealer that post suspension aren’t that great ?

Are the tires inflated to maximum recommended pressure at the time? Does it come pre-slimed to seal any punctures or not?
I'm looking to buy this bike next year so I can venture around NYC and beyond to go much further beyond the capabilities of my current e-scooter!
I change the levels of PAS depending on terrain. Tires are inflated to 20psi and there is a 1/2 bottle of FlatOut in each tire. I just got done running some errands on it and it is still one of my favorite bikes.
would you recommend this bike for some 6ft and 380 lbs? i gained weight this winter and im trying to get back to 340. i never bought an ebike before.....and im an asthmatic....hills hit me bad and thats why im looking at ebikes. i usually do 15-20 miles rides after work but i have a 44 mile charity ride in june. is this the bike for me...please let me know. love your videos.
You will need an extra battery for that 44 mile with your weight. I am thinking you might be better with a cadence sensor instead of a torque sensor. The torque sensor makes you work to keep going. Although you feel more connected with the bike, I am not sure physically you can handle it (with your asthma). I would say the best bet for you would be to test ride a bike with a cadence sensor and one with a torque sensor. I spend 26 years in the Army (retired Army Ranger) and I have issues with one knee. Riding my Aventon 1(cadence sensor) my knee had no issues. When I first started riding the Aventure 2 (torque sensor) I quickly realized I have to work more to get the speeds that I can easily get on the Aventure 1. I believe that if I didn't start off riding with a cadence sensor I might have issues with my knee today. But I put over 1300 miles on my Aventure 1 and I know I am in better shape for me to be able to ride my Aventure 2. Hopefully this helps.

@@DavesDimension I would also suggest another possible contender. It's the Velotric Nomad 1. It has a weight rating of 440lbs while the Aventure max's out at 400. Not that you will be gaining more weight but the Nomads frame is stronger. I have done video's on it as well. I really enjoy riding that bike as well.

Question: We live in flat Florida and consequently we rarely change gears. Given this type of single gear riding, is the torque sensor still the better choice over the cadence sensor?
I feel that I have to change gears less with a cadence sensor. I know that if I put it in PAS 2 I can consistently hit 16mph. Once I find the gear that I like, I just use the throttle when heading up a hill. Although, I guess you could do the same with the torque sensor. Hmmmmm. I can have the bike in Touring and take it up to 22mph if I want to pedal hard. I guess I could do the same with the throttle on the torque sensor as well. Just keep in mind that the throttle will help only up to 20mph.
Everyone raves about the torque sensor but I agree with you about shifting. I have only ridden a cadence sensor bike. If I’m in 3rd gear at 12-14mph putting little pressure on the pedals, will the torque sensor provide any boost in sport mode or do I need to shift into 4th gear to pedal harder to get any boost? Secondly, on a flat city roads for someone that doesn’t shift much, which would you recommend, torque or cadence sensor?
@@1norgman By cranking harder in the gear you are already in, you can get a boost with the torque sensor. You are really putting e on the spot. Since you have already tried a cadence sensor, I would test ride one with a torque sensor. It doesn't even have to be the Aventure 2. You just need to feel the difference to make a good decision. I am fortunate enough to have both of them in my life and I get to switch between the two. Although I would love to just pick one for you, I would be remised if I suggested the wrong one. With that said, I do feel more connected to the bike when it has a torque sensor and I feel that I have better control.
Constantly changing gears? Do u have to do this with every other bike??
I have noticed that with any of the other bikes I ride that do not use a cadence sensor, you shift gears a lot more. That includes non ebikes as well. But maybe that is just the way I ride.

How heavy are the fat tire bikes, what do they weigh? I've heard around 63lbs..
when I do an inital review of the bike, I tell you exactly how much it weighs. You can also check their website. This one is around 77lbs I believe.

I tried to but it was already unlocked. So yes, this distance test was done in Class 3 mode.
15 miles on the first 25% and 18 miles on the remaining 75%!? How come? I’m really curious cause I want to buy that bike.
Cold weather plays a huge factor on your battery life. The temp was mid - upper 30's. Batteries don't like that. I also have 2020 hybrid Rav4 that gets 38mpg in the summer and 32mpg in the winter. Don't let those low numbers stop you from getting the bike. I did the same test the Aventure 1. In the summer I got 35-36 miles out of it and in the winter (same temps), I got 20 miles.

No I don't. 30psi is the Max. I like mine at 20psi for a smoother ride.
If you don’t have one of the bikes they are pretty much identical so even watching the 2.0 ones are the same as the regular ones
I have a video where I compare the two. There are more changes than you might think.
@@scotthardesty no enough to warrant an extra $500. Same screen same rear motor same top speed. You get a little more range different brakes and a torque sensor doesn’t seem worth it to me at least can’t speak for everyone

Should be more like 30 to 35 psi for your weight on the road. 20 is for off road. Always divide the factory mileage estimate by 2 to get a safe distance to ride, so you will make it back.
It says the Max PSI for my tires is 30. No way am I putting it up to the max as I would feel every bump. The distance test was a real world test using the tire pressure I use on my bike. I wasn’t going for the longest distance, if so, I would have kept the bike as a class 2 and rode in eco mode. 20 psi (for me) allows the bike to roll pretty easy while absorbing bumps. 30 miles while you're peddling is 1/2 what they advertised - what's up with that - you weren't riding on throttle
Cold weather affects the battery distance big time. I have the same issue with my 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Once the temp is above 60 then I will get a lot more distance.
I hear that aventon starts you out at -100,000 trees killed for the mining of your battery.

Depends on where you live. Here in Chicago you can ride Class 1 - 3. Actually, I have never had an issue no matter where I ride. Ride responsibly and people normally leave you alone.

Handicapped Senior trike rider here, but I do also recognize that 20mph true athletes ARE responsible from my 30-years of experience on our bicycle paths.
@@garyseckel295 It's totally fine to disagree. All I can do is talk about my experiences as well. I ride a ton of miles in different areas, and not once have I had any authority come up to me about my bike. I understand that different states have different laws. The question is, are these laws enforced. I am sure as these bikes become more popular, various states will regulate and enforce more. My philosophy has always been. Don't be a dick on the road. It’s 20mph in the USA, and nobody is going to police it. I ride a C1 ebike myself (Specialized Turbo Vado) but plan on replacing it with a C3 ebike soon.
