My 07 XLT is still running strong. Its true. The cam phasers, and chain tensioner problems seem to be the symptom rather than the main problem. It's mainly caused by poor maintenance on the engine. From 04-09 Ford sold an average of 700k f150s a year in the US. If the engines were so bad I doubt the F150 would still be the number 1 selling vehicle in the US. Selling almost 900k vehicles in 2019.

I have an 07 XLT with the 5.4L V8 and 2WD. It has 173k miles on it now. I’ve only changed spark plugs and fixed cylinder misfires at 100k miles. I just drove it on a 1300 miles road trip, and about to come back 1300 miles in two weeks. I trust it. I’ve towed a Bayliner boat every weekend in the summer 120 miles round trip. It’s done everything I’ve asked of it. 36 gallon fuel tank is a nice plus too! I think changing the oil at 3 or 5 thousand miles really prolongs these Triton engines. My mechanic said if you treat them right they really are not that bad. I’ll see if she makes it home 1300 miles lol!

Diesel owner here but also have a 2005 STX 4.6. Project Reliable and fun to drive. I did choose to mod (level. Tires rims exhaust tuner etc). Its original owner left it for dead before i got it. Only serious problem i had was PCM died a few months back everything else i havent changed or fixed is purely cosmetic. Original Engine & Trans. I got the truck when it was 68k now just at 104,830. Too bad the 5.4 got all the love when it came to performance. Things like more air flow and ability to run a procharger for example.. for its size ofc not the fastest line of trucks but can handle a few cars on the road if thats what your into, Nonetheless routine maintenance is a must. There’s performance to be had runnin the 4.6 with limited options unless ofc you swap the damn thing 😂

I have a low mileage 06. These trucks aren’t as bad as they are made out to be. They are actually relatively easy to work on. Mine has a tick. I done done the oil pump and complete valve train. The tick came back. All Ford parts with a 340 mellings HV pump. Spark plugs are no big deal with the extraction tool but bullshit too. Over all its not bad. Don’t freak bout a tick worry about a clacking. Clean oil is the key. The build quality is great. Not Fords best truck . Low tolerance for non maintenance. I had mine for ten years. I elected to do the valve train but it really didn’t need it. Other makes messed their engines up with displacement on demand. GM had a great engine 99-06 the rest of the truck major rust and nickel dime repairs. I had one of those. I’m not a fanboy of anything. Never owned a Ram. Ford builds a good truck sometimes a bad engine on a bad day.

I recently had Ford replace my alternator, serpentine belt, pully's, and etc. on my 2007 XL, STD, 4.2L, 4x2, Long Bed. Apparently the main bearing in the alternator started seizing up causing the belt to wear which cause the belt to damage other pully's. My Ford only has 35,000 miles on it because I use it sparingly and so it surprised me to see such damage done during this engines short life as far as miles. The great service dude showed me the box full of the parts replaced along with the alternator . It seems a belt has the ability to trash other parts. I love this truck and want to keep it going for as long as I can. It seems life expectancy is also due to age and not just miles?

My 2007 Ford F-150 XLT still runs smoothly albeit its frame is rotted beyond repair, followed by several other problems. The moral of the story? NEVER pay for more than what your truck is so called worth when it's in such a sorry condition nor from a generic dealership managed by sleazy shysters who would gladly put your life in danger just to make a buck.
