  • The Ford F-150 is a solid looking car. However, looks can be very deceiving. I am sure ford is not to proud of this truck. If you are in the market for one of these 11th gen Ford F-150s from 2004-2008, then I would definitly look at the 10th gen instead of even a Chevy becuase the issues on these cars can pile up.
In this video, I go over all the major issue that plagued this truck to hopefully better educate you about your ride or your future purchase.

My 06 has 351k miles and ticks more than a clock but can still haul a car trailer with a 3500lb car on it up a 15% grade....but it's not happy about it.
    It's a clean title, I'm the 2nd owner AND it's a 4x4 AND I bought it for $500.
Edit: and the power steering leaks, rear main seal is leaking a little bit, needs an upstream 02 sensor, has random misses, flashes the CEL when WOT, shakes, rattles and rolls, leaky rear diff cover, clicking rear diff and a bent up tailgate....but the interior is IMMACULATE, the engine bay is borderline spotless, the transmission is ironclad, 4x4 works perfectly and I even get 22mpg.

@@jaredalbin5658 If the engine is running good and isn't having any issues, then there's a very good chance you could replace the timing components and upgrade the oil pump, and have an excellent motor for years to come. However, if it's already having timing problems, most likely the damage has already been done and would likely need a new motor. With that said, you could also check out the 2v 4.6 in the 11th gen. Those motors are among the best Ford ever built. They're underpowered by today's standards but will run forever as long as you keep oil in it.

I am not saying you will for sure have all of these issues, these are just issues that may potentially come up during the time you own the truck. I get a lot of people taking these videos out of context and saying they don't have these issues, so the video is false. When, in fact, there are many people in the comment section validating the video.
Also, on the V6 motor, the spark plugs popping out aren't nearly as frequent as the V8 models. There have been quite a few people reporting the spark plugs popping out in their v6 4.2ls, and that's mainly due to the 5 treads Ford used in the cylinder head, when a spark plug has 10 treads.
Nevertheless, my goal is to help others in any way and as many ways as I can. So, I hope this helped you out.

My '04 Lariat with 68k has been good overall, but all window regulators broke in first 4 years, lower intake manifold replaced 2 years ago, 4x4 transfer case motor replaced last year, and EXPENSIVE E-brake replacement yesterday.
A big problem was the rear window seal failed in 2014, allowing water to run into the voids where it fried electrical lines and rotted the cab corners. Check under your door sill covers for moisture, and inspect your rear window seal where it contacts the rear cab, from driver side to passenger, before you have costly issues.

I will say however, the engine is loud and coarse. Aside from that, it's really a great truck. Oil changed every 4000 miles and the engine sounds like it should...loud and coarse but not making any of the "telltale" noises of imminent failure. I'm considering dropping a few grand into the engine to "bulletproof" it...HP oil pump, updated roller rockers and VCT, manifold bolts, etc...basically making the engine good to go for the long term. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than a new/newer used truck without all the electronic gadgets and gizmos that go wrong. 17 MPG highway (loaded) and about 14 in the city.

So if you claim that these trucks have serious issues, you might completely full of &^#$#. Now I'm certain "some" F150s have issues but that's most likely to the previous owners treating them like dirt. I'm on number two and well on my way to half a million miles. I had an 05 that the cam phasers went out, but a brief history about it. A buddy bought it from me on payments and after about 2 years he wasn’t keeping up on the payments so I ended up taking it back and in the 2 years and close to 50,000 that he had it he never once changed the oil or air filter. The air filter had a 1/4” of dirt debris and even bird feathers over it. So I contribute that issue to it’s recent maintenance history. Other than that it was one of the best vehicles I’ve ever owned.

The prob would go away when the truck was on a lift, then come back a few days later. I bought every part from the solenoid down to the IWE hubs all new lines, etc and it still did it. Both sides held vacuum when tested, all check valves were new and tested as working. Had to get rid of her. Worst 4x4 design known to man. Should've left well enough alone with manual locking hubs and floor transfer case shifter

I changed the fuel pump modulator, the camshaft sensors and nothing. I have not yet tried the crankshaft sensor. I was reading that it could but the camphaser pin(s) that could have broken but I’m not sure. Any other ideas of what it might be? • @ralphellis4569

One thing that needs to be known as far as coil pack failure.
In some instances the coolant bypass in the intake manifold can crack, causing it to weep coolant/water into the plug wells, increasing resistance and causing the coil to fail.
This problem is particularly a bitch to solve because you may not see any weeping along the intake manifold when the system has no pressure (is not hot and flowing coolant).
It will literally look like moisture is "coming from nowhere and getting into the plug well.
The coolant bypass in the intake is aluminum but sandwiched between two plastic components with rubber seals.
Heat-cycling causes the plastic to become brittle, and a chunk will break off, deforming the seal and allowing coolant to slip by the underside of the intake manifold along the deck, and into a plug well.
Again: This may or may not be externally visible.
The only sign you will get is a thrown code for the offending cylinder, which you then pull the coil out and it's literally wet, as in actual water is in the plug well.
The coolant bypass problem is very well known, and mechanics have likely run into it before.
Another issue you did not cover:
The tabs or lock end of the coil harness pigtails may snap off, causing the pigtail itself to not securely fasten to the coil.
This is the cause of so many coil codes.
You may think you slid it firmly onto the coil, but then the engine vibrations and harmonics will back it off while driving.
The worst part about this condition is that sometimes it throws a code for a good cylinder that resides on the same journal. (e.g. #1 pigtail tab is broken and backed off, but ecm throws code for #5.)
In the 11th gen, the engine you want for insanely high reliability Is the 4.6 2v mated to the 4r70/75.
It's an engine with enough low end torque to pull a decent trailer load (5k lbs or so) on flat or slightly inclined ground while being mated to a transmission that can handle significantly more torque than the 4.6 2v makes from the factory.
Before the peanut gallery says something incorrect, both the Triton and 2v could be had in an 11th gen, depending on year.
If I were running a landscaping crew or the like, I would avoid the problematic 5.4, and find a 4.6 2v truck and call it a day.
It won't win you any races, but it will pull your lawncare trailer and equipment and probably give you very few problems.

      @ralphellis4569 Před 3 lety +1

@Eric Esposito Yeah this is extremely common. Mine pulls hard too but has a small, scarcely noticeable but definitely there idle vibration.
I'm betting it's a vacuum issue or they're just prone to dirty MAFs.
