Ducklings Trying to Escape from Swimming Pool

- I found this mother duck and her 10 ducklings in my backyard swimming pool this morning. The mother, who has visited before with her mate, had no trouble getting out, but the ducklings were not able to climb out of the pool.
My friend Brian and I spent more than an hour creating ramps on which the ducklings could climb out, but they refused to use them. Then Brian scooped up the ducklings with a pool net, but the mother stayed in the pool and the ducklings jumped back in to be with her.
Finally, we put a ceramic turtle and some lava rocks from my fire pit on the top step of the pool and chased the mother in that direction. The mother jumped out, and the ducklings eventually figured out how to climb the turtle and rocks to safely escape.
The last duck: "Where is my family?"
Gary....
Lol right.
I was way more invested in this than I should've been lol.
XD
In case anyone ever encounters this in the future, when I had ducklings stuck in my pool, wildlife rescue told me just to put a large towel over the edge of the pool and they would use it to climb out. I did that (you have to weight the edges of the towel down with bricks or something) and I simply draped it over, and they walked right up the towel with no problem. Mom and ducklings were reunited, and a few hours later they were gone.
HELLO I AM FROM THE FUTURE!! 😁

Kathi what a gorgeous story.
I love ducks.
On our property we have
6 Geese to watch over us.
Australia.
Gone where? Like escaped?
I love how when the net first shows up she's like "oh absolutely not, children follow me we gotta run"
i don't
The drama! The suspense! The action! Go guys for saving the bebes! Ducks may be a bit bird brained sometimes, but they are super cute!
Thriller movie are predictable.
This was a True Thriller. I didn't know if the last will make it 😰🤔🥶
Thing is in general birds at abt as smart as a dog, and some are WAY smarter than dogs (ex corvids, parrots and possibly chickens), which is why i hate the term "bird brained" bcuz its not true in the slightest
Sry no hate towards you, just the the saying
@@whatTFisThisDucks are smarter than chickens and dogs.
Because they're 1-day old and not very experienced at much of anything. They also follow the mother wherever she goes.
You could crumble something delicious near the bridge and ducklings would follow the duck.🐥
What happened to them after that? Is there a natural source of water nearby? If not they were probably lost... Do you know where they lived usually?
1 day old and they can swim
@@acedriver5380 ikr its ridiculous lol
Omg they r so cute
those ducklings are acting like one of those broken stupid companion ai in video games
lovely Bunny
I think it’s a joke, he’s saying it’s like the AI / Bots in games.
they are just to little to climb
Lmao so true also mother ducks are really stupid when it comes to parenting because their first instinct when the ducklings hatch is to just find water so very often the mother will lay her eggs on peoples balconies just because there is a pool underneath its honestly ridiculous
@@OG_Jam Hard to tell a pool from a pond if you’re a duck, it’s water!
@@Bip4rl0 yea I know lol but there are so many other weird places that ducks have layed eggs and sometimes there is no water nearby I seen this show one time when there was a duck and her ducklings trapped on a school playground and that happened because she layed her eggs in a Bush in a contained area like literally all the school buildings were attached but the center was hollow so she was trapped in a massive box basically and needed to be captured and released miles away from the school because that's how far away the closest water source was (her and the ducklings were fine but its just another example of ducks being adorably stupid)
The mom going in for them was one of the sweetest things I've seen
@Phantom of the Oprah buzzkill
LOL they keep jumping back in. arrrgggh!
lol they don't wanna escape the pool, they just wanna follow mommy
Their mom was outside of the pool so they wanted to escape to get to their mother
Kenny Lin ur right
stupendo
Kenny Lin they would die after a short while.
@@SimonWoodburyForget The pool looks like it has an overflow drain that keeps max water height under the ledge, like a bathtub.
These kind men put more care, thought into getting the ducklings out of that pool than I feel like David Benioff or DB Weiss put into any episode of the last season of Game of Thrones. Also more suspense & was more invested than in watching any episode of the last TWO seasons of that show. Thank you 😢❤
What a great compliment! Thanks!! 😀
It's not a very high bar to clear though.
Seeing baby ducks really make me think about how amazing this world can be
stupid human thinking it can be but really sadly it won't be we can all keep lying to eachother ;$
I have seen a ton of these videos lol. They will keep jumping back in if their mom is in the pool. Also the mom will abandon the remaining ducklings as soon as she gathered about 60% of them. The trick is to gather them in a box until you caught all of them and then the mother will follow you and you release them away from the pool.
This is like the sims all over again.
Beautiful place
We thought about the water level, but we couldn't increase it while the ducklings were there because it would have freaked them out. The net was the only thing we could think of that would work, and it did. We had the same problem this year (with a new brood of ducklings), and we had to use the net again. I'd love to hear of any other suggestions.
I know it's late, but either stepping stones (as you had in the end of the video) or a ramp may be a good idea.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😍😍
Lead them with seeds they would eat, then let them go to the ramp/stairs or stones that you may add, but that might lead the pool to get dirty though...
You all did amazing! Hopefully the issue has been figured out, but putting extra drop in steps or a ramp by the steps helps (I don't mean install any, I mean get one that can be taken in and out. Like a doggy ramp or pet stairs, covered in something their feet can grip).
making a little set of stairs the way u did seemed to work u might have to guide them to it tho
"and now this ones trapped in the jacuzzi" LOL
please someone edit this over that funny video of people excitedly cheering in a bar bc this is exactly how i felt watching this. thank you so much for your kindness Evan!
3:45 -"You little nerd." I laughed so hard!
Lmao I didn't even notice that 😂
Momma Duck: Why do you disappoint, me?
OwYouMoron
I feel like I've seen this comment before, on another video.
I was rooting for the last little baby ❤️
Loved seeing these baby ducks back with mummy
It's amazing she wouldn't leave any behind bless her
Elaine Jones almost left one
Just watched this again so cute ☺

He gets one out and two jump back in!
lol Yes! I would've been going crazy.
Its so cute to see all of them stick together no matter what, took forever. With a little help, they got it 👍 😉
Dear Evan and Brian! Thanks a lot for your kind attitude and efforts to help these ducklings and a Mommy duck!♥️
Thank you for your time and patience with these little babes! Something tells me that you'll be doing this again in the near future. 😖❣️
Watching this gave me anxiety.
love duckin

Me too, and I was there!
Love the little chirping sound they make.. 🐣🐣🐣🐣
Love this! Such beautiful souls helping the family of duckies!
Я переживала за этих уточек. Спасибо Вам большое за ролик.
I'm a huge duck lover, particularly mallards. I enjoy watching them because they are cute and peaceful little creatures. I also have started studying their behavior and this video really does a great job of illustrating how caring mother ducks are #itsaduckslife 🦆🦆
I love that you let the last one work for her survival, she may be the runt now but because of that small challenge, she might rise above the rest further down the road in her duckling life. haha. Great upload, loved it!
The mother duck at the beginning was like "Get away from my babies!" But watching the ducklings try to get out is adorable though.
Ducks : “we had just escaped from the evil human’s kidnapping”
" They're going back in! And this one's trapped in the Jacuzzi! " I died! LOL!!! xD
evan zucker, u r a good man for helping birds 👏👍👊
Thanks!
So nice to see that there are still people in the world that care.
The mum don't give a shit😂😂😂😂😭😂
MysticalRyan007 they're actually really caring lol
I find it ridiculous that they didn't just use the floaty ramp, or get up from the Jacuzzi. Eh, birds. What are you gonna do? Good job anyway...
Yeah. Birds are pretty dumb, though the smartest animal is a bird
I like how the mom kept going up the edge that the babies clearly couldn't go up even though there were several other options
They aren't stupid, just imprinted on the mother duck, the instinct to follow her is stronger than anything
@@KateeAngel they are dumb bro
Who is smarter, chimps or R-word humans (Mentally disabled)?
0:53 the mother be like: "WHEN I WAS HALF YOUR AGE I WAS ABLE TO JUMP THIS HIGH"
Runt of the litter finally did its best. I learned a lot from it. Thanks..
Aww soo cute!! Mama was so worried about them! Thanks for helping them! 💘
Love you guys. Thank you for saving ducklings
Was funny as hell when they all jumped back in the water.
Aww good duckies! So cute..They’re like “mom stop leaving us!” 🙂☺️
OMG, my stress level reached unimaginable levels 😅
I would have been tempted to keep the last one for myself. You know...finder's fee.
That's a good thought, but I don't my wife was interested in raising ducks!
Evan Zucker ha ha ha
That’s not nice. Taking a child away from its mother? What if that happened to you when you were conscious enough to tell who your mother was
i2Sekc4U. Well, for example lizards lay their eggs and just leave.
Heka ѵ: those are a totally different species
What the duck? This really quacks me up.
+TheCbrown146 --You should be imprisoned for that.

TheCbrown146 easy find another one let me know because I want one
Your pun-tastic
@Maid of Time I love ducks very good bird
Thank you so much guys trying to help them out 😊😊😊
In ancient time, we had the myth of Sisyphus, forced to roll an immense boulder up a hill only for it to roll down every time it neared the top, repeating this action for eternity. There, we have the myth of Brian, trying to scoop up ducklings out the pool only for them to jump back just after! :D
Very intellectual comment. 😀 I forwarded it to Brian.
Me trying to chase my life dreams
Omg 😂🤣😭😅
Hahaha same!
Baby ducks: This is the worst fild trip ever. XD
You can hear the desperation and worrying of mama duck 😢 So glad it had a happy ending 😊👍
I have seen some birds of prey in my neighborhood, but thankfully I've never seen one attack a duckling.
T
+Evan Zucker did the last duckling made it to the duck group?
+MrFRDW It did. What we don't know is what happened to the family afterwards. They left our property, and I wasn't able to find out what happened to them.
ok :D good to know
Evan Zucker que
Mallards you gotta love them👍💜🦆🦆🦆🦆
Nature @ it's BEST 😀.. And MOTHERs love is Eternal 😃🥰
Sir. You have taught them how to swim within certain minutes. Lol 😂
Jumping back in the water for safety is probably instinctual for them 🙈
Oh meu Deus!🥰 como é linda a natureza! O que Deus fez é perfeito♥️♥️♥️. Não tenho palavras para expressar😍
So sweet! Thanks for being so kind
Mallards: Not the brightest bird in the gene pool!
Good work guys! Love the patience and care you showed. :)
*Just watching this gave me some anxiety as well.*
Master and students.
Mother and children.
They're learning a lesson from her mother.
They are so small, just babies but so strong. Not the brightest but very determined.
What a heart! You guys are great! Thanks for the video!
Totally amazing to watch. Good job guys.
The last duck: " Wait mamy!" "Wait for me"!😁
The Mother is like "What the hell, Follow me" and babys are like "Help us mama"
Awwwww...They All FINALLY Got Out and Vack WITH MOM🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆😁✌👌
OMG nice job guys LMAO...
We raised ducks on a farm and they are relentless... Was awesome teamwork with pool net..😀😂👍
Gracias por estos videos tan amorosos. 🙋♀️🥰🇺🇾
One of them got trapped in the jacuzzi ! Kkkkkkkk ! So funny !
Thanks man for amazing video and thanks for helping those little ducks
Rhondau2: Thanks for referring me to your video. I really like your solution with the pieces of wood. This apparently is a fairly common problem you and I both had.
My My!! That was a wonderful 🦆 duck and ducklings pool adventure with a nail biting finish.
I recall a similar situation that occurred several years ago. We placed a large board in the pond, and the ducklings were able to climb out.
I laughed way too much than I should have
lol
That was sooo frustrating to watch.
Mother ducks can really put their babies in jeopardy.
I wouldn't nominate her for mother of the year award.
That was adorable. :D
They are almost 10 years old now ❤
やたらに助けるんじゃなくて、一回見守って、自分で解決させようとしてあげるところが良いね👍👍👍
Very cute watching the ducklings jumping out of the pool.
Respect !🙏👍♥️
i feel kinda bad for the last one
Such is the life..
Your cam quality 8 years ago was great
Really❤
Ducklings: thankyou but we gonna do it how mumma suggests.
Finally. I was almost breathless, lol!
The last one was sooooo cute :3
awww how precious ,baby duckies i love them ........
Try,try....
But don't cry!!! 😊👍👏
Mission accomplished! 🦆👍
5:08 moment of happiness
Aww! So cute!
Even compared to other bird brained creatures, this group is on the slow side of the bell curve.
this made me so sad they were in such panic the mom just wanted to save her babies n i wanted to cry when i saw the last one getting stuck n i feel like it kind of hurt its leg bc it was walking weirdly i hope it could find its mom :(
Make me sad too about the poor baby ducks having to go through such extra stress ESPECIALLY when there WERE people that should of had the brains to put step type rocks at the pool stairs where the mother duck kept leading the ducklings to get out, then they could of all gotten out on the first attempt. And because it took so long for the "people" to figure it out-the last little duck had to be panic'ed out of it's mind, and it did appear it got injured, and that is down right cruel when a human can't find a way for something THAT SIMPLE. Hate to think what would happen in that pool if a little kid fell in, those guys wouldn't have a clue!
U could've put the grey boogie board like a ramp so they could walk up it
"They are going back in"....😂👍
Well done for the rescue attempt. Lucky that you were around at the time as if this was the ducklings first swim, they might have been in trouble without your help. I put a ramp and some stones in our small pool and that way they could get in and out without any problems. They´re three months old now and as big as the parents.
Unfortunately, I never saw these ducklings again, and so I don't know what happened to them.
@@ezucker Hopefully, they survived the urban environment and all its perils...cats and large birds being a big problem...even here in the countryside.
