- In today's quick tutorial I show you how to turn off sound on microwave as well as turn off beep microwave and finally how to make microwave quiet. Universal Wave Guides on Amazon here - amzn.to/4emB3Jq
Most microwaves have the ability to be quiet or go silent so you do not hear the beep or beeps when you press the buttons. However, this feature is rarely mentioned in the owners manuals of most microwave brands. I am unsure why this is.
Making your microwave silent is a great way to keep from potentially waking up friends or family members when you are trying to heat something up in the microwave later at night or when someone is taking a nap.
For most microwaves, if you press and hold down the two (2) button for 2-3 seconds, you will hear an audible beep. This indicates you have successfully turned off the beep sound on your microwave. If you wish to turn it back on, simply press and hold down the same button.
Well everyone, I hope you found today's video helpful on how to turn off sound on microwave as well as turn off beep microwave and finally how to make microwave quiet.

As soon as I press the "2" my microwave turns on for 2 minutes. Didn't work for mine
Try pressing and holding when the door is open
U don’t hold it 😂😂😂😂
@@RichOffYayy lol
@@JMGENTERPRISES it didn't work
Didn't work for mine either
I used to have a microwave oven that allowed me to just silence the 4 beeps at the end when the microwave stops. That feature is no longer available in any current microwave ovens. I think it was a sound button, by itself.
What model is your new microwave?
I just tried but it did not work and instead it is asking me about changing the power level 😢
@@julietshrestha2018 darn sorry to hear that? Have you checked your owners manual?
Yay! I no longer have to worry about my parents discovering my 12:30 AM expeditions for hot chocolate!
Hahaha. Love hot chocolate 🍫 😋 I am there with ya!
the mircrowave still makes noise when the food is being heated up
relatable
TY. It worked on my Toshiba. I appreciate the short, on point demonstration.
Yay! Happy to hear it!
The 2 button you just pushed just locked your touchpad. If you look at how you pressed different buttons after you supposedly turned off the beep - the buttons did nothing on the control panel - not just not beep. And then when you turned on the beep sound again (unlocked the touch pad) then the buttons beeped and also worked with their function on the screen. Can you show how to turn off the beep and then push the buttons to show that the functions still work as well in the video.
On my microwave, once you mute the beeps, the express buttons don't work. You need to first hit time them the amount of time you want to heat.

I have a Farberware microwave. Bought it last July. Last week the number pad stopped beeping, but the other buttons still beeped. Yesterday it started to work again. I’m afraid something is wrong and needs to be repaired. What are your thoughts?
Tough to say. Did you have a warranty? Still under one year from date of purchase and I know most appliances have a one year warranty.
I needed this thanks :D
You bet!
Thanks! I've made a note of this great tip for some day when I finally invest in a new microwave. Mine is so old the paint inside is even bubbled up. But, as long it works, it kills me to open my wallet to buy a new one. When I do get that new one some day, though, those beeps are toast.
I hear ya Scott! If it aint broke, don't fix it! Haha. Have a great weekend!
Holy crap!! It really works!!! Yippee 🎉🎉😊 thank you so much!!! ❤

This has been bothering me for years and I decided to Google the question and your video came up. Thank you sir it worked immediately! Happy New Year
Excellent! Happy it helped. Happy new year!
I have KitchenAid KMCS3022GSS, opened door, held button "2" for a couple of seconds, screen displays "GOOD", and now the beeps are MUTED!!! 👏
Woohoo! Happy to hear it! Or not hear it should I say 😁
I also got a kitchenaid… hasnt worked yet
Our microwave has a wheel you turn clockwise to add ten seconds a time until you have the wanted time and then you press start and it has a few buttons but these are like for programming the clock and things like that. Is it then not possible? We live in an apartment and neighbours easily hear everything so it is always a big stress not to wake them up to early and to late. It beeps when you press start and it beeps four times when it is done and then also four times after a minute or something as a reminder. I want all of it mute! The manual doesn’t share any information about how to do.
I am not familiar with the wheel type microwaves. Hopefully someone else chimes in with the answer. I would think it would say it in the manual if it was possible. What model of microwave do you have?
I apologise late answer. Voltage is the brand but I don’t find the exact title. It’s fairly new I think we bought it about a year ago. It’s black and it has three double function buttons right under the display followed by a wheel and then a double function button for pause and start.
best video ever !!
Happy you thought so!
My microwave ( Toshiba ) has a volume symbol below the number 8 button which once held for 2 seconds does the same thing you’re describing with the number 2 button.

We have a Sharp that's a little over two years old. It has express cook, where you press any number, and it will cook for that many minutes. I'll have to check our manual and see if there's another other way to turn off the beeps. Granted all our bedrooms are upstairs, so there's no one to wake if we wanted a midnight snack.
I have express cook on mine as well but holding down 2 still works. Maybe try opening the door then pressing and holding the 2 down...?
@@JMGENTERPRISES I have the same, tried with door open and it did not work. Will check the manual (If I can find it lol)
@@JMGENTERPRISES That's odd. I tried both ways after reading your comment and neither worked. I even pressed and held for 30 with the door open, no beep. Tested other buttons and they still beeped.
While I like the idea to be able to stop the beeping, we personally don't need it. It's just hubby and I.
We have another microwave that we bought to keep upstairs for guests, but it's not plugged in right now. Hopefully that one will work because it could be used when someone was sleeping.
@@rhondatodd5774 shucks! I tried this an almost all the brands at home depot before I made the video and it worked on all of them. Let me know what the manual says!

For my Panasonic, I had to unplug and plug back in, then press START followed by CLOCK to select units of measurement (kg/lbs), then START followed by CLOCK again to toggle the beep. Now my microwave is silent!
Huh. Haven't heard of those steps before. Thanks for sharing! Enjoy the piece and quiet!
In our motel room there was a tiny sound on/off icon by number 8 that you hold until it beeps AWESOME 🛌 💤 while you midnight snack
Good to hear it! Late night snacks are the best!
If I hold any button for long, it beeps and flashes -SE- and then continues to beep with every button pressed
What model do you have?
Nope. I have to touch "Time" before the numbers work/beep. Either with or without "Time", this does not work on my Westinghouse, which looks different from yours.
Try it with the door open!
If anyone knows how to disable the finishing signal/beep that never ends on the SIEMENS HF24M261 which has no number dial - Please let me know!
I'm not familiar with that model. Have you looked at your owners manual? I'm sure it's online if you don't have it
My electrolux has a variation via "user pref" -- and the number 2 button was key. Thanks!
Awesome! Glad it helped!
Thanks so much! Took a few seconds! Lived my whole life with that crazy sound. Feels weird not to hear it. Awesome!
Great to hear it! *pun intended 😆
Not in my current model Panasonic. Pressing 2 just enters 2 seconds cooking time - if you hit Start, it will run 2 seconds. The beeper probably can be located on the circuit board, a small metal disk, will have a look when I have time and put some foam or a piece of chewing gum on it. Or disable it altogether - did this on the "panic button" on car remote, just ripped the beeper off.
Try holding down the 0 button and see if that works
Do not do that. Opening the inside of a microwave is very dangerous and could physically harm you. Look into this.. google it...please do not mess around with a microwave 😮
On my microwave it's the number8. It worked. I have an Insignia. Thank you
Good to know! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Shut up!!!!!! That's awesome. I actually sold my microwave cuz I couldn't stand all the beeping, especially when the time was up it beeped 4 loud annoying times.lol. I'm going to go find a microwave to buy and see if this works on it! Thanks man!!!!!

I can on mine. Usually holding down the number 2 button disables all the beeps.

I also need a quieter sounding door on microwave…. My husband goes ape in our small apt as I am diabetic and need food quick in the night hours …
I'm not familiar with how to make the doors quieter. Hope someone else can answer that for ya
As soon as I press the 2 (or any other number), the microwave immediately sets to that many minutes and turns on to cook. Even if I hold it for longer, it just continues on its timed cooking mode.
Try holding the 8 button or 0 button. Some microwaves use those.
My new Hamilton Beach starts running for 2 minutes while I am pushing the #2 button in.
Try it with the door open.

Ty. My Toshiba worked on #8.
Nice!!
It works depends on your mircowave now only if it quiets when it actually ran
I agree. You would think that would already be a thing with modern microwaves.
It worked
Yay!! 🙂
Well it does work , I mean it was little more convoluted for
Whirlpool. My big issue is listening to the end time beeping. It wont stop until you acknowledge it, and it is loud and really annoying. Then after the power is shut off it resets and defaults back to on. Then I got to remember how to get back to the shut it off menu. Power outage a couple days ago and here we go again...wrong. Three screws to remove the control panel, break the speaker off the board, clip off the tabs that were still on the board, and put the panel back on. It took five minuets and I will never have to listen to it or reset it to off again.
Breaking the speaker definitely works!

But I love beeping sounds because if I’m backing up a huge ass semi truck or something I would want that beeper to let me know I’m in the right gear.
🤣🤣
On my microwave, you press and hold the 8 button to mute and unmute. Numbers 1-6 are express cook. If you try to press and hold those numbers, it will just run for that number of minutes.
Nice! Good to know. Sometimes people comment on this video saying it didn't work for them. I will make sure to tell them to try the 8 button!
@@JMGENTERPRISES I would just inform them that not every model operates the same way (obviously). There were also comments that said that the 2 button just locks the touchpad and that the express buttons no longer work.
On my microwave, after you mute using the 8 button, the microwave otherwise functions exactly the same way, including the express cook buttons. Even the timer still works, although it's not going to beep at the end of the time if it's muted, so having a muted timer is kinda worthless. Besides, I have other voice-activated timers, namely via Amazon Dot, with a louder and more controlled beep volume. (For when I'm not concerned about disturbing others, of course.) So I never even think to use the microwave timer anyway.
If you just press the start button, my microwave runs for 30 seconds; pressing it again adds another 30 seconds. Most of the time, instead of using the express cook buttons (1-6) or the silly "specialty" buttons (popcorn, dinner plate, frozen vegetable, baked potato, pizza, beverage) or the time or weight "defrost" buttons, I just press the start button x number of times to adjust the time. Of course you can also use the "time cook" button to input an exact time. Most of the time I'm just warming something up anyway, not using the microwave as a cooker. I never warm up pizza in a microwave, though. I warm up a pan on the stovetop at medium heat, which only takes about 2 minutes, and warm the pizza, covered, for several minutes. This makes the bottom of the crust firmer and crunchier and the pizza slice easier to handle. Nothing worse than a floppy slice of warmed-up pizza out of the microwave.
To me, the most important feature of any microwave is the *output wattage* . You don't want a microwave that is more than 1100 watts (mine is 1000). Otherwise the food burns. The older high wattage models were great for boiling water, but would otherwise burn your food, even using the "power" setting. All the power setting does is turn the magnetron off and back on at intervals; it doesn't actually reduce the output wattage of the magnetron, so the food still burns. I can't ever heat up a taco shell in an old microwave. Instead of heating it to a crisp in 45 seconds, it burns it in 20 seconds.
It doesn't work on my Hamilton Beach p100n30ap-s3b1 microwave. It just sets the timer to 1:59.
