A lot of great comics make for very good actors because of the depth of their thought. You can't have a cutting sense of humor without sharp intellect, and a sharp intellect is a bit of a prerequisite for knowing a character inside and out well enough to bring him to life.

The *bleeped was when Damon was making a reference about the time he took over Jimmy Kimmel's Show renaming it Jimmy Kimmel Sucks! This irritated Kimmel and stopped him from describing what happened.
