My mum was that 5 year old Sara!! We just watched this at dinner together. She’s told us this story 100 times. ☺️ Hope we get to meet you one day Santa.
I was 11 (and the eldest) and I remember that concert so well, it was the best night of my life. I was so sorry I was out of the country and couldn’t meet you in Dublin again recently. Next time!! X
Mr Sklar, it is so nice to get to know you much better than just the legendary great bass player that you are. Born in 1973, I literally grew up listening to you unconsciously. Stay safe and healthy. Love from Holland
What a heartwarming story. I think you really made an impact on that family, and it's so cool that you ran into them 30 years later! We need more of these kinds of stories in today's world.
You are a great person. To play with Genesis, Phil Collins and all that music that you put out only serves to show how wonderful you truly are. This story only serves to prove that there is still hope in the country. Thank you for allowing us to see a side of humanity, that seems to be lacking in so many today. Hooray for you, "Santa".
I am a 56 year old man and I cried when that train appeared! Leland you are a great man and musician, thank you for sharing this and all your recent videos.
Regardless of the sordid crap that the media seems to prefer, *these* are exactly the type of story that matter, and should be shared! You're a wonderful human being, Lee Sklar! Be safe and be well. :-)
What a beautiful story! Lee, you are a great human being. I'm glad I've followed you since the 70's with James! I enjoy much your videos and this one is exceptional and full of meaning! I just loved the train!
Love that I ran into this story again. It meant so much in the early days of the pandemic and is now a lesson in kindness and forming life bonds. Thanks for your channel, Leland.
Aw thank you so much Lee You will never know how much you have touched my whole family .You are one very special guy and we all love and respect you so much Love and friendship Adele❤️❤️❤️
Wow... What a touching, true human story. I bet you could make a movie out of it. I know you got all kind's of other COOL stories for us and that's why i'm here... Thank you again Leland!✌😎
Sir, you are one of the coolest and kind hearted people I've seen in CZcams. Someone with your caliber in the music industry might not give a rats ass about regular people, but you are definitely something else. I was born in 60's so I have spent my best years listening to your bass playing. Thank You for the music and good vibes. 😎😀
👍😂OMG I just posted a note on the previous video I watched about you looking like Santa. So I’ll post it here too.😂 👍When I saw the thumbnail pic my first thought “oh goody…Santa” so I clicked…I’m happy I did because I got sooooo much more than I ever could have expected. Now I have to binge watch all of your videos. Thank you. 🙏💝🎁
My favourite story from you in the last year was listening to it with my Thai daughter in Thailand. , I am now in UK waiting to go back to my Thai 👪 Take care Pete and gang
It makes me happy to see you already passed 22 thousand subscribers, you are appreciated by many ! We are spreading the word by re-posting your videos.. I run the treadmill while watching so..The longer the video is the fitter Ill get!! Thx Lee!!
Love your story that proves that you are not only a great bass player but also a wonderfull person. I am a metalhead, but love your bass playing, no matter with whom you play. Just following a simple principle that says "any music is good music, as long as its played by real people."
Leland... you are so humble and down to Earth!! AND GENUINE!!! A talented man who deserves the accolades you receive TEN FOLD! We love the pic we recently saw with our friend and a fellow bass player Johnny who was with Willie Nile last week. We all loving your new band too!
It is becoming the highlight of my day listening to you play and tell stories. I have been playing drums / vocals and guitars / vocals since the mid 80’s in the UK and now live in NZ. It’s quite amazing that over the years of playing I have got to know some incredible people and indeed some of my idols in the craziest of situations. I have also been lucky enough to have played alongside some of them by sheer chance and being in the right place at the right time. I find myself telling stories of gigs and chance encounters that made me so happy, friendships I have made, amazing opportunities that present themselves and the reasons why I get up, stay up till all hours, travel for miles with piles of gear and smash through hours of music and end up a sweating puddle. It’s truly inspirational to listen to you speak let alone play. I have seen you so many times at gigs over many years and you are always on point.... a true legend, thank you Mr Sklar !!!!
Hey leland, That's a beautiful story, I'm a Dub and Dublin, although a small town, is an amazing town, full of creative and amazing people. God bless you Leland, Phil Lynott is looking down upon you with a great big smile on face.
What a beautiful story! I think the rock journalists miss the boat thinking the real fans of great musicians only want dirt. What I want in a great interview is the stories that tell how human the great player real is ... stay healthy and safe!
Thank you for doing these videos. I have always felt your playing had a beautiful humanity to it. After hearing your stories and learning more about your life I see why we love your music so much.
That's a wonderful story that speaks to the kind of person you are; God has blessed you with many gifts Mr. Sklar, not the least of which is a kind heart.
What a sweet story. I' m playing bass on a lousy level for 30 years and everytime I see a pic of yours I' d tell my 10 year old daughter: "santa is a bassist"...all the best to you man, Arne
Mr Sklar, such a touching story! It's so insightful and delightful to hear your "on-the-road" stories, thank you!...Speaking of Glasgow, the legendary Steve Forman whom you've worked with, lives here. I've met him at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where he teaches. His stories about the session man life are just like yours; both of you seem to be surrounded by a bright aura gained through a life of music...Very inspiring for the younger generations. Thank you again and please, keep on telling us your life as a musician!
Hey Leland. I'm a lifelong musician, certainly not as successful as you but doin' it. I get on the road from time to time - small venues with my own group and bigger venues with some of the other groups that call me and those kind of stories are EXACTLY the ones that I cherish most. I've met people that have remained friends for many years and we visit when we can. I've had them put me up when I was passing through with a dark night. AND I shared your story with all of them. Thanks for a lifetime of great music!!!
You know it’s true. These are the best stories from tour. One time my band was on tour in Wales, and my drummer and I were lost outside Cardiff. We met this amazing family and they drove us and helped us find our hotel. We put them on the show guest list. They were so happy just to come to a rock show, and they had a warm generous energy. We stayed in touch after, and it’s always those experiences that stay with you the most. Just connecting around the world. That’s the beauty of music. I hope we get that back soon. That’s the hardest part of this is not being able to crash into other human beings in happenstance like random strikes of lightning. We took that for granted.
Leland You are Santa Claus and such a sweet and humble man. Sklar if you don't get a star on the walk of fame or induction to the Rock hall it would be a shame. I have seen you play with so many bands. You deserve to honored for all that you have done. Peace brother, Michael.
In this world where we are assumed by the media to want salacious stories of embarrassment, vengeance, and one-upmanship, it's so nice to hear a story where everyone ends up happy and closer together. Not ashamed to say that my eyes are hot and ready to overflow. I believe that there are millions of stories like this that we all could, and should, share, not only in times like these, but all the time. Thanks for the great channel!
Dear Leland, It is sad indeed that Facebook chooses to try to silence you from time to time. This is a wonderful story, and your joy in telling it shows how big your heart is. I know this is not an unusual occurrence either...in sharing concert stories with a friend, she was so excited about this guy she ran into on the streets while she was in the Navy who gave her tickets to a show. Turns out it was you! I’m not entirely sure you aren’t Santa. You make dreams come true! ♥️
I have watched this video a couple of times before and stumbled upon it again this morning. It is such a wonderful heart warming story and I can almost visualise the events! A story of a lasting friendship from such a random event, that transcends continents and celebrity etc. It actually brought a tear to my eye! Great story, so beautifully told, thanks Lee 🙂
What a wonderful personal story. You’re being so generous in sharing pieces of your life with us. Thank you so very much! And of course: Stay home...stay safe...save lives!
I could watch you play and listen to you all day tell your lovely stories. 44yr old UK wow talk about being at the right place at the right time. What a Christmas present. Keep safe.
Great story, Leland. Over the years, music and musicians are fairly central to my soul, and I've been fortunate to meet several of my favorites. Two years ago, I got to talk with James Taylor during the intermission. I know you've played with him, and probably have some fond memories.....even during some of the dark times. We were given tickets to the show after losing everything in the Northern California Wildfires (Tubbs) in October 2017. James signed my CD, and offered his best to us as we move forward toward recovering. It's the little things that mean a lot, and many "famous" musicians don't take the time. We're all humans, and music can connect us. Be well.....don't resist.
Wait a minute…..yer not Santa Claus?…..What a lovely story…Leland…Thank you for your stories…Those are the ones I want to hear…..again as always ,Are thankful for our many blessings….but, let us always be mindful for those less fortunate, ones suffering from grief, loneliness ,hunger, homelessness, and sadness..and loss. Kindness is something we can all have for others…Just like Santa..earlier…if we can all tell wonderful stories of the road….That would be a good thing….Peace and love everybody🌹🪷🌹🪷🌹🪷🕊🥰❤️🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻👍and a special high five to Santa for that story…❤️
My mum was that 5 year old Sara!! We just watched this at dinner together. She’s told us this story 100 times. ☺️ Hope we get to meet you one day Santa.

Please give her a big hug from me. ❤️
I was 11 (and the eldest) and I remember that concert so well, it was the best night of my life. I was so sorry I was out of the country and couldn’t meet you in Dublin again recently. Next time!! X
Your story is critically essential, to so many, at the perfect time. I hope you don't mind if I share.... thank you Mr. Sklar.
LESLIE LENTZ Would be happy if you share it. 👍🏻
I've been following you for quite a while now, and am always entertained-but THIS WAS THE BEST EVER-thanks so much for posting and sharing...
Oh man, this channel just keeps getting better.
You are so right!
Mr Sklar, it is so nice to get to know you much better than just the legendary great bass player that you are. Born in 1973, I literally grew up listening to you unconsciously. Stay safe and healthy. Love from Holland
In Nederland zijn we gek op hem
What a heartwarming story. I think you really made an impact on that family, and it's so cool that you ran into them 30 years later! We need more of these kinds of stories in today's world.
Kindness costs nothing... but means so much. This story is so moving. Thank you for sharing.

As I continued to read Lee's story the room got so warm my eyes started to sweat.

Great story. You're a good man, Mr. Sklar.

It was my uncle David and gran Adele. They tell this story all the time. ☺️☺️☺️
Thanks for the wonderful story Leland. Please keep doing these videos.God bless.
Very cool story! I'll never forget that tour. I was 18 at the time and I'm 49 now! Really digging your channel Lee
