Mr. Sklar, I’m one of the lucky ones during this pandemic. My life is stable and I have a good home. However, the isolation and the politicization all gets to be too much at times. There are a handful podcasts and you tubers I have found that take my mind away from our current situation, help restore faith in people, and give me some solace. Yours is one of them. Thank you. You too sir are a legend in your own time. I’ve been playing music for the last 40 years but have never had the opportunity to meet my cousin Linda. My parents were divorced and I never got to know any relatives from Tucson. Yes her situation is sad but her beautiful voice and music will live on forever. On another note, I actually knew Mike Post (Postil) when he had a place in Hawaii. He is another monster music writer. God bless you Leland and we can see the beautiful person you are with all your kind words about others. Stay safe 🌴😷🌈Aloha

I saw Linda perform in NJ in 1995 (w/ Russ Kunkel drumming on that tour) and she was spellbinding. She hit and maintained a note during "Can't Let Go" that I still remember and felt goosebumps all over me - which I've never felt at a show before or since. You can find a show from that same tour here on CZcams from 1995 in Boston. It was essentially the same set-list. She is certainly one of the most versatile and commanding vocalists I have ever heard - man or woman.

I tend to go on and on about how wonderful Linda Ronstadt is-her consciously nurturing relationships with the best of the best songwriters, all the specifics of her seemingly effortless technique on her instrument. I’ll just say again, she seems to utterly inhabit the emotional world of every lyric she sings.

He still teaches, at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and he's "Principal Bass Emeritus" of the London Symphony now, though he can't play anymore. Several friends of mine are students of his and say that his lessons are transformative! I briefly met him once, his speech and movement are very limited.

What a transcendent vocal performance by Linda and Aaron! That kind of quality song requires the very best of players to adequately interpret it. Linda Ronstadt is a true legend. And so is Aaron Neville. Whenever I hear this song I always cry. Because it reminds me of me and my first wife, Debbie. We would have been married 26 years this past 15th. She died 9 years ago on the 25th of this month. We always had this big plan to grow old together. But she was suffering from asthma so bad that God took her and relieved her of her suffering. Thank you for posting this, Leland. Another thing about Linda. I remember watching The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He had on Linda, Emmylou Harris, and Dolly Parton. They had just released the Trios album. You were part of the backing band for them. Linda introduced the band members. And when she got to you, she called you The Human Furball. I thought that was funny. Miss her great voice.

Honest to G-d, I'm not sure what I would prefer, the music or the stories. As a bassist, to be able to slow the video down, study the notes, and try and figure out why you made the choices you did, how you put the notes together, and everything else you did is... I could never afford to pay what they're worth.
As a student of music, it's people, genres, and history, hearing the stories is as priceless as listening to a WWII Marine talk about fighting in the Pacific. We get to hear the names and learn the history of the songs that play in our life's soundtrack.
    Thank you for both.

I have seen studios with 9-foot concert grand Steinways where they have piano so muffled with blankets and so on that a prison escapee fro Alcatraz couldn't get out of that piano! I've also done some recording engineering and that is one of my biggest frustrations - someone who wants to take a perfectly lovely natural sound and make in into a completely electronic sound! Excellent observation!

I have appreciated your art for many years. I must say, I truly enjoy this channel and your willingness to share such cool stories and memories. In these troubled times, your kindness and spirit are like a cool salve on a soul rubbed raw. I also gain a greater appreciation for each song you share. Thanks for the relief.

Riding out the pandemic on a farm on a hill on an island in the Galapagos Islands, with the slowest internet connection possible, Leland Sklar's CZcams posts are definitely the highlight of the day, a needed bit of peace in the middle of all that could go wrong.

I was fortunate enough to see Linda Ronstadt perform live on two occasions. She was terrific. Also, there were times when I would hear a new song played on the radio that I thought was pretty good, then Linda would come in singing background vocals and raise the song up to a new level.

  • @andrewhallett-patterson9778

Thank you Leland. Having you as a storyteller is memorizing. Just understanding the intimate backgrounds of singers and your inclusion within their songs in history known only to yourself. Your inclusion of live bass to a song is fantastic, I'm loving your technique and fluidicy, but its not always necessary. Again, thankyou for sharing.👍👍🇦🇺

Ditto Rob Houghton's comment, A treasure you are. Learning so much from you, it's really just crazy. Without your channel the only possible way to learn what I have from you would've been to be you! Technology is a miracle in this sense. You sir are also a miracle, in every sense. Thank you so much.

Thank you for the stories and the duet with Ronstadt and Neville, the most beautiful duet ever. I opened for RONAN at the Golden Bear in Hunington Beach, you guys kicked ass! JD Souther was there, it was a magical night for me, I'll never forget it.

Back in the late '70s/early 80's I played in several trios that did a lot of country club / lounge gigs. Without a doubt, the most requested songs we did were Linda Ronstadt songs - Blue Bayou, You're No Good, When Will I Be Loved, and more. The public really appreciated Linda, and it's really nice to hear this tribute to her. Thanks for this Leland!

Thanks for name checking Buck Herring! That piano room for Annie sounded beautiful! Also for opening up about that difficult session. I've been on a couple that were a psychological root canal. :-)

I had all her albums and used to tried copy her and sing along. Saw her a couple of timees in NJ and MSG back in th mid 70's and once in Tucson. She is a gifted goddess of song.

Linda Ronstadt is one of my personal idols. She could sing anything, but I remember her rock n' roll days. My older sister used to play her records when I was very little and those memories stuck with me. I grew up and became a singer myself, and her influence has stuck with me today. But as much as I love her big hits from the 70s, it's the lush, gorgeous, jazzy arrangements I love today. It's a real treat to hear your thoughts on her career and your work with her. What an incredible experience that must have been!

We were working at Sounds on Sunset when we had to leave, even though we had paid for the time and under deadline....because her people needed our vox box.
We were pissed off....after.... they were very kind and spoke to Authur, our guy at Polydor, and got us an extra 3 weeks...and then they bought us a meal at the Green Iguana in Venice, next to my Apt.
I did not meet her, We ate with Don and Barry or Gary and a few others.
    Good day.
Glad to see your post about her.

Thanks for being a great story teller about the people you have worked with through out your musical career. These are stories that average Joe would never hear if it were not for you. And there are a lot of fans out here of Linda Ronstadt who wish her the very best each and everyday of her life.

And we were at THIS VERY SHOW...she was fantastic, and THIS song...still love it!
