  • Update May 21!
I am slowly in the process of demonetizing all my videos, I was never in it for the money or the glory. I just like to help people. This way you can rest assured i'm not making a video only to trigger an algorithm or as click bait. I have been a bit disillusioned with it all lately, and hopefully this will help.
Instead if you wish to support me you can buy me a coffee or beer instead :) entirely your choice though!

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hi!
In this video i show you how to do some basic image processing of astro images in Affinity Photo
    I cover:
-how to convert to 16bit (from 32 bit)
-how to stretch an image using the levels tool
-how to do a curves adjustment
-sharpening in develop persona (a bit like adobe camera raw)
-noise reduction in develop persona and from the filters menu
-how to save and export your image
-how to enable photoshop plugins in affinity
I briefly touch upon dust and scratches and minimum blur.
I'm hoping this will be the first of many videos, its not meant to be a definitive guide..its just to get you started (hopefully).
thanks for watching and stay safe!

I've been using affinity for Astrophotography for over a year because I didn't want to pay a subscription and I found it cool that you quickly found how useful levels adjustments are as that was my first real breakthrough. After that I learned to use the pixel layer as a mask for things like sharpening to prevent the highlights from blowing out and denoising to retain the detail in the bright areas as the signal to noise ratio is already acceptable to begin with. I'm still trying to learn how to properly edit individual color channels but it's been rather difficult to wrap my head around

It may be time for another Affintiy photo tutorial - perhaps this time you could discuss the new stacking feature, live filters, remove background filter, and 32 bit linear workflow. It’s a great app, but still somewhat intimidating for me. Another tutorial by you would be duper helpful!

  • @AstroLaVista

Nice, it does make sense to crop once you've stretched so you can see what you're dealing with, and I like the picker tip as it takes the guess work out of adjusting the curve. The software looks like a great budget alternative, do you prefer it to GIMP? Some of the wording looks confusing though (develop persona lol) As you're also new to the software I think you did great to put a good and useful tutorial together so quickly. Pretty cool, well done Stace :)

    • @AstroStace
      @AstroStace  Před 4 lety

Doing it that way would select all the highlights in the image I think. You would want to keep it under control the whole way through processing. But I would say it would help!
