My grandfathers fought in the Wehrmacht. And one of my grandfathers got wounded in Russia. When he came back, US soldiers stayed at their farm to protect them from the Russians. They helped on the farm, they became friends, one soldier gave him his typewriter as a present when they left. They stayed in contact for decades afterwards and visited each other regulary. The power of "no." It's one thing to riot, protest, and tear down stuff. Very little ever comes out of that. But saying "no" to purchasing something, whether it's a beer, at a chain store, or movie tickets, hurts them in the wallet a lot more than smashing a window. It isn't even a movement, it's just people walking away from the woke product and saying no.

    • @Bacteriophagebs
      @Bacteriophagebs Před 11 měsíci +19

The only reason we never see anything come from protests and riots anymore is because, for a variety of reasons, those protests never have a proper focus.
The purpose of a protest is to annoy the people in power until they make a change to shut up the protestors. If they don't know what change to make, or if the change is not within their power, the protest fails. In the case of the Jan. 6ers, the change was not within the government's power and they went far enough that it was easy to just shut them up by arresting them. In the case of BLM, the protests had no focus. They _started_ as universal protests for police accountability, but once BLM took over they were just protests about (perceived) institutional racism. We already have laws against that, so lawmakers couldn't do anything to satisfy BLM, and the protests petered out.
Notably, in two states that BLM ignored because they have such a small black population, New Mexico and Colorado, the protests _worked._ New Mexico abolished qualified immunity for _all_ government employees, and Colorado weakened it considerably. Also notably, in New York, which was not ignored by BLM, they "abolished" QI but actually made it stronger by setting limits on how much a cop could be forced to pay for violating someone's rights, no matter how egregious the violation.
You see this in almost all protests nowadays. Gun control rallies either don't have a specific law in mind, or they want all guns banned. Anti-Trump protestors gathered in D.C. just to get all angy about their candidate losing. But if the protest has a small, achievable, concrete goal, it works. Want a statue gone? Protest enough and the city will at least move it, because it's worth it to stop the protests. Want all racism abolished? Protesting won't do shit because no one can do that.

Sorry boomer, but this is where ppl like you and Gary get it VERY wrong.
This is NOT about making and or losing money. It’s NOT about exploiting current social/cultural “trends”.
If you are vaguely aware of the power and depth of psychological manipulation used in standard marketing of any benign “product”, then you can see clearly what’s actually going on here.
Gary (and many others) believe that “The Message” is the marketing aspect , and “Woke Movie Franchise” is the product they’re selling.
It is in fact the opposite:
Woke Movie Franchise is the “commercial” for The Message/Ideology which is the “product”.
Through subversive repetition and intimidation they know that enough people will buy their “product”, thus expanding their power, influence and control.
They do NOT need your money, they already have it. The money you spent on a Snickers bar the other day, was circulated through several companies and corporations, before reaching the top shareholder/investors who then dispersed your money back down into whatever is Disney’s latest Woke Franchise budget.
I’m sorry to inform you that it’s not going out of style or stopping in any way, despite your efforts.
If Disney were to actually collapse and go bankrupt, the money at the top would be redirected to another company so that they could “buy” Disney and “rebrand” it.

Money is key - Imagine people from all over the world making a stand and use their money to bring big corporations down.
Best example: a bank run. If every customer takes all their money from a (specific) bank at the same time - the bank is toast.
Huge crowds are powerful if they use their money wisely. We outnumber the richest people of the world by billions.
Boycotting companies to punish them is great, but betting against them on the stock-market at the same time and earn money from their demise is the right way to do it.

I watch this video and when it gets to the Obi-Wan miniseries and I just want to scream about how horrible that was. People getting a lightsaber in the gut and they don't die. Luke as a kid being chased by a fake Inquisitor who is nearly defeated by two young moisture farmers. Darth Vader going around breaking the necks of people for no reason to prove he's a 'bad man.' The 'big fight' between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan that was the most disappointingly worst all-time lightsaber battle in the whole entire Star Wars saga. So many things were wrong with that Obi-Wan series. It has nothing to do with male/female, race or ethnicity, or even politics, it was a horrible, terrible, no-good miniseries.

The Nazi thing was tired, lazy and preachy even in the '80s when the first Indy films did it, but they were at least a bit fun and tongue in cheek. Films made in the decades immediately after the war had a nuanced portrayal of the Germans, making them the bad guys but also complex and human on an individual level, bringing out the tragedy of war which people alive in the 50s and 60s had really experienced.
These days, Hollywood just uses 'Nazis' as a cheap stand-in for 'unforgivably evil' and claims moral license to see ordinary German rank and file soldiers destroyed for laughs from that position. Watching in 2023, we all know they don't really mean actual National Socialists either - the 'Nazis' are just visual shorthand for straight white men - or anyone who disagrees with progressive politics.

The Force Awakens was only entertaining and coherent in the first 30 minutes. Hell they barely even used the scene swipe transitions or fade transitions that Star Wars movies are known for and everything is too fast paced. If you watch Episode 4 and then Episode 7 you can see how much more fast paced the newer one is and was obviously made for people with very short attention spans. The "your fathers lightsaber" scene from Episode 4 takes up a whole 3-4 minutes of screentime, yet when Rey gets Skywalkers lightsaber its like a 30 second clip. The whole sequel trilogy is just garbage and a cash grab, and now that some of the original actors have since passed there is nothing we can do to fix the series. Whats worse is that they never had a scene with all the original actors together in any of the 3 movies. There are rumors for an Episode 10, we can only hope that if it does happen that it wont be as bad as 8 or 9, but I wont get too excited.

      Opened video. CTRL+F. "Atlantis"
      Hello friends. :)
"a LucasArts adventure game with an excellent story" is selling it short. "Legendary composition of design, atmosphere, and worldbuilding" is more like it. Personally, I wouldn't even rank any other Indiana Jones media in the same class. Rather, along the lines of Chrono Trigger, The Matrix, or Made in Abyss.
People get stuck on the pixelated graphics, clunky engine, or questionably coded MIDI music. Those wouldn't be in a movie.
Fate of Atlantis does have a good story. But first and foremost, it has worldbuilding... and DESIGN. If I had to name iconic Indiana Jones designs, the first things coming to mind are all from Atlantis. The statues, lighting rooms by spewing lava, or eating Orichalcum pearls for power. Dangle an amber fish from a string! Ride the crab raft, navigate the Minotaur's labyrinth. And which antagonist beats Nur-Ab-Sal?
(It's far too long for one movie... but a trilogy would be appropriate.)

@@VandroiyIIIMaybe a mini-series? Add in an ancient Atlantean spirit to serve as a guide, foil and companion for Indy. Maybe a priest who stayed behind to guard the city, which in reality was scared of death and chose to exist as a ghost instead.
Compare and contrast with the living, vulnerable Indiana Jones, which will suffer, wither and die eventually, but can still enjoy the pleasures of the world, by being willing to suffer while being alive.
The ghost is invulnerable to most harm and physical pain, but is unable to interact with the physical world in any meaningful way, and is eventually doomed to be rendered mindless by the mind-numving drudgery of same-old, same-old, day in, day out, for centuries more.
The one reason he has to help Indy is that he promised that he'll find a way to release him from his ghostly earth-bound fate.
Indy is conforted by the apparent existence of a form of life after death, while the Atlantean ghost priest just wants it to be over already.
