It's called Xenophobia, we can't have things from the East, but anything from the West is free to do what it likes.

Blame Sony. Back in...I want to say 2014? 2015? The NA branch took over the games portion of the company. They started pushing hard against sexualization of women in games. This lead to tons of Eastern devs pushing their games off PS4 and over to Steam and then the Switch.
Yes. Family friendly Nintendo and Gaben embraced the M rated anime tiddy games after Sony kicked them out.
To get this straight... they made a game for MATURE audience but takes out the mature in the game. How does that work
On top of that, look at the gore in TLOU. Makes no sense
Because we have uranlists that are over the age of 18, but because of mental disabilities are still immature when it comes to these things.
It works by Sony logic. "First we bait them in with sexy ladies and gore, then as soon as they buy the product, we take away the sexy ladies and gore!"

Censorship isn't designed to protect anyone, it's designed to combat freedom of speech/expression
It's always been used to protect something. Kings, dictators, regimes, businesses, citizens etc

Freedom of speech only applies to government involvement. It has absolutely nothing to do with any private company. And doesn’t protect a person from consequences of what they say.

And I'm not gonna say the outfits in stellar blade were the only reason I was going to get the game, but it was a part of it, the other part being that it took inspiration from Nier. But with the controversy, I just don't see a point.
I think the part that pisses me off the most is just the justification from the developer being "this was always our intended vision". That essentially means they advertised the games with visuals that were never going to be in the game (shipped the physical copy with the incorrect version), and gave people another product, which is basically fraud. There is a surprising number of people who think rated M means an "adult" game. That is just not true. If you try to make the argument "But this is an adult rated game and absolutely anything should be allowed" you're just going to hurt your credibility with anyone who's actually familiar with how ratings work because it demonstrates that you do not correctly understand the ratings systems.
The AO rating exists for adult games. While the comparison isn't perfect, rated M is in the same ballpark as a rated R movie, while the AO rating is closer to the ballpark of an NC-17 movie. There's only technically a 1 year difference between when you can get the ratings on your own (17 vs 18), but what they're actually communicating with R/M is "up to the parent's discretion for younger teens" vs NC-17/AO being "Minors absolutely should not have access to this". If you look up movies that had to work to avoid an NC-17 rating, you'll find a bunch of them that had cuts to keep them in the R range, and similarly there are a bunch of M rated games on the market that had to make cuts to keep from being rated AO. (On much rarer occasions, they may even end up struggling to get a rating from the rating's boards at all, which is what led to the Dead Space remake being left unreleased in Japan when they couldn't even get the Japanese equivalent of an AO rating.)

People arguing Shift Up had money to self-publish because of Nikke don't understand that Project EVE (now Stellar Blade) was announced way before Nikke released it. I am pretty sure Sony money came in when Project EVE was rebranded to Stellar Blade which is also before Nikke was released.
Correct, Sony took control of publishing the game in 2022 which was 6 months before Nikke even released. Sony just screwed Shift Up over.
They totally could have self published and in the original trailers that it would be released on Xbox and PC, it wasn't until AFTER Nikke came out that they sold out to Sony.
@@ArcanistBlack Where did you find the information and date on when this project was sold out to Sony. Project EVE rebranding to Stellar Blade happened mid 2022 which is when I assumed Sony took over happened (I have no proof but I think its a reasonable assumption as there is no reason for the project to be rebranded otherwise)
@@Unknown-pq7kf I don't have exact dates, just my memory but I find it less significant what the dates are exactly because the main point would be that they would have been able to publish without Sony, and I find that to be obvious because they were able to publish Nikke without Sony correct? And that they had previously been advertising for multiple platforms. Most likely Sony just offered them some money to make it a Playstation exclusive in the same way they have done with other games and studios like they have done with Square Enix multiple times.
@@ArcanistBlack If I recall correctly Nikke was not self-published either it was done with Tencent. They advertised for multiple platforms when the game was first announced as Project EVE in 2019 or 2020 I can't remember, however, the project went silent for quite a few years with no changes on their website until the announcement of their rebranding to Stellar Blade which is where I assume the Sony money comes in (again this was before the launch of Nikke). I don't rule out the possibility that Shift Up was not lacking funds and was greedy for PS exclusive money.
But either way, my main point is that people saying Stellar Blade can be funded by Nikke money doesn't make sense.
You can get around the censor, just need to disconnect from the internet before installing. Even for new game plus, just connect and download the update, start a new game plus, save, uninstall the game, disconnect from the internet, reinstall and you're good to go. I'm playing with uncensored bunny outfit on my new game plus run right now
Same thing Happened to SkullGirls new people came in and changed things that people loved about the game since it came out.
"japanese culture is modest"
almost every anime ever would beg to differ
And their 9000 years old loli in skimpy outfits... not that I am against it. Art is Art.
Video games in Japan are modest because they have a super strict ratings board, anime and manga don’t have that.
Anime is often viewed as deviant and people who are super in to it are commonly ridiculed in Japan. Otaku was not a compliment. And it’s only in recent years that the average person would feel comfortable announcing they like anime past high school. So yes Japan is generally modest. And a lot of them find anime weird as well.
@@SH1NK1R01 Sure, but you can make the same argument for games in the west as well. Being a nerd wasn't a compliment either.

this felt like a betrayal more than anything. They promised that the game will not be censored, we also supported shift up right from the beginning, against the woke community and shit. And after they sold the game to us, this is what we get. Don't get me wrong, the game is still great and all, but it's not good for their future image and our faith in them.
You can blame Sony for sleeping with IGN and the other woke people for that. I hope if they make a sequel or future larger games it goes to PC only (and i am a PS player)
They should have never made a post bragging about the game being uncensored around the whole world...
@@TheTurbanator123 couldn’t agree more 👍
This is 100% a Sony issue and not Shift Up's fault. Shift Up from the sounds of it is actively looking for ways to circumvent or deal with the censorship that's been forced upon them via "internal discussions".
Same people complaining about Stellar blade are the same ones that think Drag shows at kindergarten/elementary schools are a great idea.
Yea as long as it's a man those exact same clothes are a okay even in real life....sick

Let the game companies know, that I am going to full support every one of them who make games for fans not for corporate stuff. I play to chill from reality, not to deal with this bs in games as well.

Shift Up does this in Nikke as well and they get caught every time. I don't understand why they do this. Last time they censored the Doro gacha skin, they made it so her side boob was covered up when previously it wasn't. The community rioted and they changed it back. At this point I'm convinced it's a marketing tactic to keep them in the media because all press is good press.
Just do what Platnium did for Bayonetta 3. Use a toggle. It had a Naive Angel Mode (essentially censoring the game) but those who wanted to see it uncensored can turn it off. Have a toggable censored and uncensored mode. Problem solved.
Sounds like a good idea to me. I'd be more then cool with that.
double standards of sony for allowing Abbey getting pounded on screen and not allowing a beautiful character in swimsuit.
Boycot Sony. Move to PC.
Yeah but Abby was specifically designed to look trans, they did it on purpose.
As a developer of an Anime inspired Adult-Only game, I can say censorship has been a pain and annoyance. In fact when I started developing an adult-only game I decided to have my game feature a "SFW" mode.

There's blood censorship too which was bizarre. The only reason I could think for that is something with the blood texture was causing issues, but that seems very unlikely to me.
My guess, the Sony double standards shone through.
You were supposed to fight evil, not join them.
Lmao, there is no way the developers were like, "Oh, shit! We forgot the cleavage and hip covers on the outfits! WE GOTTA PATCH THOSE IN ASAP!"
This was so obviously a decision that was forced on them by Sony, and I'm willing to bet that there's more censorship on the way for this game in particular.
In a rated M game no less, where literally none of this needs to be censored.
Damn it... i always get an urge to replay oblivion after watching his videos...
It's not a design choice, it's censorship. Just as GBF Relink's censorship is not a design choice, evidenced by years of official and concept art for the characters. Light censorship needs to be treated identical to full censorship, zero tolerance. It's antiquated.
To the one that said who cares: you'll care when it's YOUR thing that's censored.
It's always the slippery slope. Now it's just a small change. Next thing you know the whole character is covered up.
Not likely. The consooomer has no standards.
As the Nikke community says: the Hijab rupee incident
If the ''Censored'' version is the intended version, then why release the uncensored version at all. You gotta know it was gonna cause problems.
It wasn't. Sony turn the tables on them last minute.
Physical copies had already been done and packed by then, IGN came along and Sony bent backwards and forced Shift Up to apply changes.
