Spring lawn renovation of my Eureka Kikuyu backyard that I will be mowing with Robot Lawnmowers this season. Testing out the Stihl RLA240 Battery Scarifier.
I always find your videos interesting, even though I have no plans to alter my lawns. I’m just a senior lady that enjoys new lawn care products being put to use for reviews and your reviews are really informative.
We don’t have runners in western Canada, so the scarifier wouldn’t be needed. We do have to aerate the clay substrate every couple of years, and many of us power rake to get the thatch up in dry years when it doesn’t break down. Very interesting to see what you have to do in Australia to maintain the lawn. I don’t cut as low as my neighbours do all summer, as it can get quite hot and the roots need some shade. We’re sliding into autumn now, so it’s time to lower the cut and fertilize so the grass has food in the spring. I’ll be in the market for a new mower next season, so thanks for trying out all of this equipment.
I was having palpitations about having to do all that on my much bigger lawn. I have mostly buffalo grass and I discovered in an earlier comment that scarifying is not good for buffalo. Phew! I love these how-to videos. I'm on my own and have no one to show me these things, so thank you. 😊
After seeing your earlier short I'd been hoping the scarifier would use the Stihl AP series batteries, as I'm already invested in that ecosystem. It seems an odd choice for it to use the AK series given they cater to the lower to mid end of Stihl's battery range. But I guess they've done the research to know that more people with small lawns are in the market for scarifiers.
They actually haven’t. That was just by chance. They are woeful at engaging with anyone that makes videos online. Even as a user of there equipment for many years, I couldn’t get a reply. The fact that a single stihl dealer in Sydney sees more value to send out equipment to show than the brand, says something.
Brilliant Stihl machine. I have one for my gardening business.

Interesting process and seems logical. Good thing your yards(front/back) are small. Looking forward to updates.😊

You should do a review of the Ozito 36V brushless scarifier, it's right around $240 so if it's any good it's pretty cheap! Keen for the yard updates 🤙
4-6 weeks should look awesome
How does the Stihl scarifier compare to the Ryobi or Ozito options?
Use the washed white sand if need to get from Bunnings, $5 a bag
What's the sand for on a dirt-based lawn?
Wow stihl have really gotten their tentacles out into the lawn youtube community very well and timed it perfectly

@@turfandtools ah so it's a dealer. Cos about 3 or 4 guys have just made videos with this machine.
Ah ok. I only saw Ben’s
Good JOB Tim Works well
i mow at 3 to 4 mostly never that low thats how weeds happen
Great video! Is a scarifier safe for buffalo? I have so much thatch that I cant get rid of unless I mow it in to dirt.
No if you cut all those runners it’s game over for Buffalo
@@turfandtools Ohes :( but thanks for responding!
So glad you asked this. I have (mostly) buffalo.
Can u do the same process on Buffalo lawn?
You can’t be so aggressive. If you remove all the runners, it won’t grow back.
An oscillating sprinkler would work a beauty in your backyard rather than hand watering mate.
if you could explain to me why you have this mask on your mouth. Next time, go out with an umbrella to protect yourself from the sun.
