    You can always lay cardboard over it and the grass will die out without sunshine. We do ours in the spring with cardboard at times to kill it back plus it's natural 😊

    How lucky you are to have a ready-built garden area. The spray you used seems like it works very well. The tougher the plant, the longer it will take for it to work. And, it's already working. That's going to be an awesome garden when it gets going.

    That organic weed killer seems less effective than even the vinegar, salt, soap method, which also burns and dehydrates the leaves of the weeds. It is pretty good, but not as good as any chemical killer - and also non-toxic and should meet the organic criteria I would think.

    Once the weeds are out on the footpath we use Preen to keep them from coming back. Preen is a sterile corn product in US. Not sure if you can get it in Australia. We started with soil that was terrible, rocky and no bugs or worms. We added layers of compost from a company here to better the soil. Now we have a beautiful orchard and garden including several raised beds. My husband uses leftover wire fencing for the peas and green beans.

    “Fo-lee-age,” not “foilage,” mate. Aussies are weird. Best to keep your pup well away from that chemical. If you put a nozzle on your hose you won’t need a tap slave to turn the pump on and off. Brass connectors and metal nozzles will last longer than plastic. Where did you think peas came from? Try some bush beans, too. Your gardening education is going to be entertaining. I’m guessing those tall frames were put in for a reason. The local birds are waiting patiently for your crops to be ready so they can get there first. They get up earlier than you do. Look for a deal on plenty of netting that does not degrade in the sun. Wire mesh as a roof would work, too, but you still need access to the raised beds. Thanks for posting.

    Tim if I make some suggestions, I have myself have 7 raised beds all of them are 12ft x4ft x 2ft and I use a electric tiller/cultivator to clean them up at the beginning and end of the planting season and I also at the end of the season I cover the entire bed with a black tarp as this will keep any weeds from growing over the fall and winter months here where I live. Now granted you or your wife will still need to do your normal and maintain weeding during the planting and growing months,

  • @Strangleyourfriend

    I bought a similar attachment that is powered by your electric screwdriver, got the 1/4 hex rod for power transfer. I bought it for cardboard cutting. Honestly, it works meh. It’s sharp as a mfer but problem with cardboard is that it’s stiff. When you cut it there’s nothing that feed the cut part to the side. It get stuck awkwardly so you have to really push to get it to cut. But it’s a design problem, since the cutting part works great. I reckon it’s same problem with Ryobi cutter. But for soft material like carpet, PU-leather/real leather, rubber, stiff plastic (the one you 99/100 times cut yourself on when trying to get in to the thing you purchased) it works great. But for cardboard a box cutter knife IS better. I would’ve loved it both my attachment or Ryobi tool would’ve worked great on cardboard but unfortunately not. But as mentioned, it’s how it’s designed that makes it meh for cardboard. Cardboard is kinda stiff which is the problem.

  • @davidking3699
    @davidking3699 Před dnem

    Domestos bleach is a cheaper weedkiller... 5:1 and spot spray... the sunlight makes a big difference in the reaction time too... I reckon there is an attachment for a multitool powerhead - a rotary tiller, that will help to turn over the dirt, and any compost you add... get in a ute load of mushroom compost for bulking up the soil, horse, cow or sheep manure for adding nutrients and even if you have coffee grounds, add them in too for extra nutrient boosts... Don't buy cheap 'compost' from the tip for veges... it is often coarse and contaminated... and low nutritional value... keep the carboard boxes you get, and lay them flat for weed matting, and just cut holes in them to plant through into the soil... they let the soil breathe, water to pass through, and break down into benign compost as the seasons progresses, or can be chopped up with the rotary tiller attachment... cheaper than weedmat, doesn't turn into micro plastics, or leech chemicals into the soil, nor does cardboard tangle up any tools like a woven weed mat would... Really, stay away from Roundup, esp. on things you are going to eat... And as I've suggested before, get a bee hive... your plants will do so much better with pollinators... There's more, but you can play safely with that advice to start with... oh, and worms... get a worm farm too... from kitchen scraps to worms, to soil, to veges, and back to the pizza toppings...

    If it’s safe now, let the chooks into the dirt beds and add compostable, chicken safe food/scraps. They will turn it as they scratch, add valuable manure, and have that turned to nutrient rich soil by Spring. I got annoyed with twine so went to bamboo canes. Slide a five foot cane to the bottom of the bed in whatever pattern you plant/seed them. Take them out at the end of harvest and store to reuse. Your chickens will love those peas! For the fire pit, brick is nice, but perhaps use larger rocks instead so that it flows with the rocks in the background? This was a great video, and it was nice to see the chickens, doggos, and the garden. It was nice to at least hear Nicole ☺ she’ll get you certified in Veggie Gardening👍

      Yeah nah, I've used slasher alot and I don't think it breaks down like they claim. I've sprayed it in the same spot a few weeks apart and nothing grew there for months. I had to plug that section of the lawn. I add a bit to round up, makes for a faster kill. Just because something says it's organic doesn't mean it's good for. Funnel web spider venom is organic 😁. Personally I wouldn't spray this or round up near anything I was going to eat. Just use mulch and hand weed.
