Wow, there are some typical backstreet mechanics making comments. I think some people can only feel good about themselves when they're making others feel bad? This video doesn't claim to be more than it is and I liked it. The title doesn't say gearbox repair, recondition or restore but it does say gearbox disassembly and that is exactly what I see. If people who watch this can't understand that it's only a rough guide to disassembly and not a step by step workshop instructional on how to restore a gearbox then they should probably put down their tools and step away from the vehicle. And the trolls should get a grip, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to become a backstreet mechanic. And I think the negative comments say more about the people who made them than they do about the person who made this video.
thanks for your video,i needed to see inside that top cover the gear linkage goes into,as my cars lying 15 miles away broke down as i have no gears,my gear stick is working as it should, but the shaft coming out the gearbox has popped out roughly 3 inches, and it won't stay in the gearbox, now i know i have to go get the top linkage housing from the scrap yard, this is the first video showing me inside that top cover after looking for days, thanks for this mate !
I found that bit interesting, as I am in the process of changing the gearbox on a 1.6 Zafira B. The one peter has here is a rod change, like yours. Mine is a cable change and that top 'bonnet' is different, but interchangable. My new gearbox came with a rod change, so I swapped the bonnet, for my old cable one. Couldn't get reverse. That long finger that sticks out, is the reverse selector. Then I found the new box has a different arrangement on the shaft, where it locates and needs to be shorter. It's a nightmare, trying to get the right parts for a Vauxhall. each car seems to be unique.
I'm guessing your from Finland and your ex rally mechanic.Nice one Peter. If you turn volume of, it looks like your working on the International space station with those gloves on. Thanks for the video👍
I was cringing when you were taking the circlip off... "This part now broke, which means I need to buy new part".. Where you really going to re use that circlip you had bent like a banana if it hadn't of snapped? Wouldn't let you within a mile of my gearbox to be honest.
Possible the worst mechanic I've had the misfortune to watch. Would have loved to see it reassembled, just to see if the flanges sealed after the chisel butchering.
thanks for the info mate,i'm going to have to change the linkage cover at the side of the road,as i'm not willing to pay the expense of having my corsa towed 15 miles home, thanks mate
I would like to add (not change) oil for the transmission. Firstly i unscrew the overflow screw ok? Can i add the oil from the overflow hole with a syringe until the extra oil come out? Or i have to add the oil from the upper aluminio screw until the extra oil go out from the overflow hole? Or it's the same? Sincerely
i dont mean to be offtopic but does anybody know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost my login password. I love any help you can give me
@Beau Coen Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
please someone tell me how the hell do you fill up gearbox oil on a vauxhall combo not one video and change timing belt looks like you need a special tool to do this
+James parker On Zafira F17 gear box you fill from reverse light sensor hole. And level of oil is on 13mm bolt on differential housing next to drive shaft I recon that on all gearboxes on vauxhall/opel filling and level are in same place
Hi, do you think im need to open the box. I got this issue : czcams.com/video/l-lr9uVdGtc/video.html It goes on third and fourth gear when i press the gass and return it.
You may not have had the best tools. or the cleanest environment. But this helped me soooo much! Thank you for posting this!
Glad it was helpful!

If I knew your address I would have a whip round for some tools for you,it looks like you could do with a couple, like circlip remover
An ex- rally mechanic has circlip pliers in his tool kit, great basic teardown though
👍
to remove this cover you should just put the gearshift in neutral, and you will come out without much effort
