Apparently, "Top Gun" flight footage was provided to the film at nominal cost. (The flight time and fuel were billed to USN as training costs, as they counted towards required flight time.) The Navy et al received the best recruiting film in decades (free positive media exposure). However there was an congressional investigation, of course, that the Navy should have charged the full costs of flight operations. Hence films with similar budgets ("Iron Eagle" used 3rd world planes). TV show doesn't have even that budget. Now movie budgets are so huge (and F18 cheaper to fly than F14?) that Top Gun 2 was finally filmed.

The flashback sequence in the 2-hour pilot episode of JAG must take place in 1969, the year when Harm's father got captured and was missing in action in Vietnam for many years.

NOT THE PILOT. Actually this appears to be the season 1 episode 1 "A New Life (part 1)" which has Andrea Parker as Lt Caitlin Pike (brunette), Raab's partner. The rest of 1995 episodes had blond Tracey Needham. The Pilot had a Navy helicopter land in a park where the president (Clinton?) was jogging with his secret service detachment. President thinks the helicopter was for him but it was for Lt Raab. Raab's partner in the pilot was a blond.

Pilot episodes are trial balloons to entice a network to buy a season of episodes, BEFORE a shows season begins. Therefore: pilot, s1ep1, s1ep2, s1ep3, etc. Shows pre-ordered by network or underwritten by network don't have pilot episodes.

The flashback of Harm as a kid being in his father's plane on an aircraft carrier probably takes place almost 6 months before Harmon Rabb, Sr. gets shot down and missing in action in Vietnam.

Harmon Rabb, Jr's father would've been very proud of him for becoming not only a naval aviator but also a lawyer, if he did come back from Vietnam when Harm was a kid. Harmon, Sr probably would've been an Admiral by the time his son grew up.

Tom Boone commented in "A Separate Peace Part 1" that he believed Hammer could have been *CNO* if he didn't get shot down, considering Tom was already a CSG commander (O8) and nominated to command a numbered fleet (which also granted a promotion to O9)..

It would've been good to see Harm in an episode of Hawaii Five-0 in which he comes to Five-0 HQ for their help, and they all put their uniforms on after they heard of him coming to see them and to hear Danny Williams' comment about how he feels about lawyers in the United States Military, though Harm sometimes defends & sometimes prosecutes. That would've made JAG's ratings skyroclet.

It would've been good if David James Elliott made a special guest appearance on NCIS,NCIS:Los Angeles,NCIS:New Orleans or even Hawaii Five-0 with the theme of JAG being heard. Also,it would be good to see Steve McGarrett giving a salute to Harm if he achieved the rank of Admiral and if Steve has heard of him and also that he has done for the United States Navy after following in his father's footsteps, though Harm,Sr. never came home to his family after becoming M.I.A,then later on officially deceased after Harm finally found his father, only to do it far too late.
