Octopus hook and Circle hook

  • I have been using both an octopus hook and a circle hook every fishing season. Both are excellent choice for majority of the fish out there and I don't think I need any other kind of hook particularly for the fish I am trying to catch. It's just a matter of choosing the right size whenever I go fishing. Excellent hooks.

    So my understanding from what I was taught is that the only real difference between an octopus hook and a circle hook is actually the eye of the hook. Octopus hooks have a bent eye and circle hooks have a straight eye but both circle hooks and octopus hooks can have either offset or inline points. It just depends on how the manufacturer wants to manufacture it based on the demand in the market at that point and time.

    • @ndoutdoors813
      @ndoutdoors813  Před rokem

      I completely agree with you. Not to mention State or Gaming regulations. At the end of the day, i ask myself whether one hook is better than the other and in my opinion is no. If u catch a good size fish and you dont get into any issues then it's a good day! What type of hook do you usually use?

    • @TheIconicFisherman
      @TheIconicFisherman Před rokem

      @@ndoutdoors813 it depends on the situation on what hook I use if I'm fishing open water or places where there's not a lot of cover or structure I usually go with a circle hook or octopus hook depending on the species I'm fishing for in that situation. but if I'm going for like bluegill in grass or bass in grass or any species that tends to reside in really dense cover that's usually the only time I'll use a J hook. Because J hooks are more compact and won't get tangled up as much as a octopus hook or a circle hook in that situation it's really situational for me because I fish for multiple different species so I don't just fish for one type of fish.

  • @cluelessbushcraft
    @cluelessbushcraft Před 2 lety +1

    • @ndoutdoors813
      @ndoutdoors813  Před 2 lety

      I could be wrong but I think J hook don't have that bend on the eye. Just a straight j shape with a sharp point at the end.

    I don't know that the barb is "very important". Many people use barbless hooks. You reduce fish throwing a barbless hook by keeping the rod tip up, and keeping tension on the line during retrieve. Barbless hooks cause much less damage to the fish 🙂

    A Barb does not hold the fish on the hook it holds the bait on the hook if your fishing a lure crush the Barb on the hook you will find you will land more fish that way don't believe me do your own research a barb will not set as fast as a hook without a barb many studies on this they all say a hook without a Barb is better
