The person you out bid on eBay at the last minutes is probably watching this video, and fuming lol 😂. I’ve been there on both sides. Great come ups man!
At least it went to a legit game lover and collector and not a reseller.
If the other bidder *really* wanted the game, they would have been on the ball. It went to the better player! xD
I would of taken it personally , definitely a unsub situation 😅
In Australia we get your videos on Monday mornings… for me Monday mornings can be a struggle but every Monday when I’m getting my kids ready for kinder I watch your videos and the energy and vibe you put out really energises me… week after week.
thank you
They fucked up by not calling that album "Vinyl Fantasy".
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Oooh I like that
goated comment!!
😮😮😮😮😮😮 man that would of sold alot more if so!!!
The Neo Geo aesthetic combo of detailed, *chunky* sprites and smooth scaling, is still as attractive in 2024 as it was in 1994.
1000%
Most definitely. It just holds up so very well
I can’t get over how great the b roll and editing of gameplay has gotten recently. Your captures are right up there with what My Life in Gaming and John from Digital Foundry are producing. The show looks amazing!
I'll bet it was all captured from the Polymega
Yea except all the weird blurring going on in the jade cocoon video. For some odd reason it looks like two frames are being displayed at once. It's very strange.
Johnny the charm of your channel is your story telling of the memories you have with these games and anime. You have genuine passion for the games and anime you talk about and fond memories. Your my favorite retro game channel by far. Been a fan since I was 11. I’m 22. How time flies 😌
Man... I've been a subscriber and watched these videos for YEARS, but this really is a fantastic time for elite quality Happy Console Gamer videos.
Perfect timing as I only just got through the 50 best RPGs video.
That was a long video lol. Nino Kuni was Not in the video 😢
I'm still trying to finish that one. Seems like every time I sit down to watch it I get interrupted somehow. I have listened to it all the way through, but I want to actually WATCH it.
It’s also the 40th Anniversary of Macross the Movie: Do You Remember Love?
I discovered that movie through @HappyConsoleGamer and it became one of my favourites ever. Wishing for another anime special Johnny!
Man, honestly envious you were able to acquire that Lunar 2 guide for a measly $50.
I got mine at retail cost $19.95 plus tax.
@@ShoZama85Yup, me too. Lunar 1 and 2, along with Alundra and Arc the Lad. Those smaller hardbound guides are amazing compared to the standard magazine size. 😢I just checked and Lunar 1 and Alundra were soft covers. Darnit.
@@TheTigerspyooooo Alundra strategy guide! That game is awesome
I got Alundra strategy guide for 50 cents. Best Buy was getting rid of it back then. I also got the front mission 3 strategy guide for 50 cents as well.
Johnny, Thank you so much for sharing each Sunday. I know my Sunday isn't complete without your video.
Fantastic pickups! That NES book at the end looks pretty cool. I love stuff like that. It’s nice to just pick them up once and awhile and flip through and just take it all in!
Yet another great time with Happy Console Gamer! I remember seeing Jade Cocoon at my local 'Media Play' store and always wondered what it was. As soon as you showed the cover, it was a 'memory unlocked' sorta moment for me! Thanks for the amazing video Johnny!
Haven't picked up anything new. But I started Breath of Fire on the Switch Online SNES service. So far, I am LOVING it.
Lots of good value on there, I played through a few Zelda games
Keep going through the series! Play 1 and go to 2 then 3 and eventually 4. Stop there. 4 was so good, that music. 3 is underrated too.
@@CaptAwesumNo1Zone Would be nice if we got 3 & 4 ported to modern consoles like the Switch.
22:53 Easily one of my favorite endings for a NES game. Just a young man and his frog staring off dramatically into the distance.
My most notable pickup recently was Persona 2 Premium Edition for the PSP.
I also have got that Lunar 2 strategy guide recently and have the Vanguard Bandits Strategy Guide as well. The Working Designs strategy guides are top notch.
Everytime you bring up NeoGeo *anything* is like a warm loving suplex of nostalgia.
I’ve had G-Darius on ps1 since 97 and never had a single crash or issue with it. It’s probably my favorite shmup besides Lords of Thunder
He got a copy with damaged data. Basically, he needs a different copy that isn't damaged.
Or it's the polymega.
I recently picked up Eiyuden chronicle hundred hero’s for ps5 and Luigi’s mansion 2 for switch.
You know it's a great new game stuff episode when Johnny starts off with a Neo Geo AES game.
Very nice!
There is a very good HD Remaster of G-Darius available on Switch and PS4!
He got a copy with damaged data. Basically, he needs a different copy that isn't damaged.
From the London Gaming Market last Sunday, I got a Master System 1, Gauntlet MS and Wonder Boy in Monster World, again for the MS.
Crazy you mention Lunar 2, I picked up Lunar Silver Star Story Complete on Friday. It’s in excellent condition too. It had just gone into my local half price books the same day lol
Nice! Congrats!
I’ve just now been getting into this series… I think I’m gonna watch from episode 1! Loving the channel!
i bought jade cocoon for a friends birthday back in the day and he traded it in like a week later i will never forget that lol
I played the SNES version of Shadowrun back in the day. I really enjoyed it. Did not play the Genesis version but many people prefer it to the SNES one.
I tried the Genesis version a few years ago but couldn't get into it.
Both are amazing in their own way.
SNES version is maybe not a better game but it’s more enjoyable if that makes sense
Fuggin’ eBay sniper lmao
I love physical guides too. They're so expensive to collect though. Sometimes I absolutely need them to enjoy RPGs too. I get stuck a lot otherwise.
i always watch your episodes 2-3 times :D one episode a week is never enough
latest pickup was - ICO on PS2 boxed with a manual nobody had written in.. and with a box that didn't have labels all over it - £20.
Also best game soundtrack over the actual game - Wonder Boy III - Monster Lair on PC Engine CD-ROM - Soundtrack is phenomenally wild!! - game itself was a slightly above average side scrolling Wonderboy game with a shooting section at the end of each level. Not the most inspired Wonderboy game they could have done.
Fantastic video Johnny !! When I listen to you talk about Neo Geo makes me want to go back to King of Fighters 97 or 98 or 99 . Or even Last Blade ! Samurai showdown IV and Samurai showdown V and I also suddenly feel the urge to play metal slug too
Always good to see you
Shadowrun on the Sega Genesis is totally the proto-Bioware RPG template. The dialogue trees, the skill system, in game consequences to your choices, parallel quest lines. It was SO ahead of its time. You can buy and upgrade your weapons to tailor them to your play style, the customization on your deck is like a really neat spell casting system that you need to actually optimize to how you play. The customization is also a set a preferences, nothing is just "The best". The whole contact system that also changes depending on your choices and factions. The options for party members reminds me a lot of Mass Effect, there's lots of people you can choose from(Shout out to Marrs). Some runners have quests associated to them, just like later Bioware games. The game is amazingly complex for a 16 bit era game. It felt miles ahead of the SNES version, which is more of a direct, linear narrative with few choices. In an era of retro gaming where the under appreciated games are elevated to cult status, this game is STILL underrated. The beginning is rough because you're under equipped and those random fights with gangs can seem like a slog, but get some gear and start exploring.
Holy shit, this sounds amazing. I'll have to check this out.
Yes. This game is deep and just a blast to play. So many fond memories with this one
Because of your videos and your show I learned what the neo geo was and I'm a young guy who likes retro stuff and the most amazing thing happened. One retro store I went to had an arcade where they have SNK cabinets with metal slug, samurai showdown, and so many cool arcade games from Japan.super cool
Breath Of Fire 4 is such a great game. Very underrated game in the BOF series, my favorite in the series.
Just pre-ordered Ys X Nordics Limited Edition, can't thank you enough for introducing me to the series over 10 years ago!
Good to see some NeoGeo love! Savage Reign is often over shadowed by the sequel, Kizuna Encounter which came out the following year. SNK was pumping new games out so fast, some of them never got a chance to be discovered.
I love this channel ❤ So many cool games I forgot about.
It's just you with G Darius. Has always worked fine for me on real hardware. Can't comment on Polymega since it's emulation and I've never used one. Too bad because it's a great shooter.
What an awesome deal on that Lunar 2 strategy guide! I love that series as it's what got me into JRPGs.
Always great watching your pickup videos!!
Love the vids man they really help me relax for some reason think it’s ur voice tbh
I picked up The Silver Case by Grasshopper manufacturer. Great visual novel/dungeon crawler
Really enjoying Trails Through Daybreak which just released a couple days ago. Really looking forward to Ys X in October as well as Daybreak 2 next year.
Gonna hold off on Daybreak til I get a couple other Trails titles finished first or at least one lol I’ll have to preorder YS 10 sometime in the next week or two
Same. I'm still behind on Ys VIII, and I got Trails into Reverie and the upcoming Tokyo Xanadu eX+
@@MentalLiberation TX is a masterpiece.. Literally a direct cross between Ys & Trails.. Finished on ps4 several years ago
Great video, thank you! I never had crashes with G-Darius on original PS1 hardware, not normally that way.
What a find for that Lunar 2 Guide!! Wow, thats minty!
Recently I got my two games from the Memorial Day blow out from Limited Run. Got Ocean’s Heart and Arc Fell. Then just Saturday I got my Trails through Daybreak Collectors Edition to add to the collection!
Awesome pickups John! I gotta add those neo geo cd games to my library 😊
Jade Cocoon I remember playing the demo of that game from a PlayStation 1 game.😂
That was a great memory throwback Johnny so thanks.
I still remember that combat animation style and I hope they can remaster or remake one day.
A new Breath of Fire Game would mean the World to me. Breath of Fire 3 is one of my favourite Games of all Time. 🥰
Awww yeah Lunar 2! I've been playing through the first one for the first time and it's a blast!
I just purchased G-Darius HD because of this video. It rocks.
looking forward to picking up Unicorn Overlord for Switch.. usually wait for your reviews before picking them up. never been wrong!!
The crash you got on Darius was a Polymega issue with the latest update that causes it to freeze and make those high pitched noises. The temporary fix is to go into the system settings and disable the WiFi it should no longer happen after that.
1,200 episodes wow that's awesome Johnny. Mad Respect and admiration
With its free-roam movement, combined with the use of random weapons lying around, I always used to affectionately call Aggressors of Dark Kombat my favourite way to play Power Stone in 2D. It always reminded me of Power Stone! Or maybe Capcom pulled a sly one and borrowed a few tricks from ADK/SNK? 😀
Great pickups. Love the books at the end.
I had G Darius for the PS1 and never had any problems playing the game.
I'd love to see you do a video of games that've held up well since 1989, or the eighties in general :)
Jade Cocoon I remember playing the demo of that game from a PlayStation 1 game.😂
That was a great memory throwback Johnny so thanks.🙂
I still remember that combat animation style and I hope they can remaster or remake one day.
You find some wild and wonderful items on your travels.
I got those exact same figures a little while back! Now to find room for them. 😅
The big things I've gotten are a couple of arcade games: X-Men CotA, Marvel Super Heroes, and a Naomi setup with MvC2. That MvC Collection announcement got me super hype to mash some buttons!
Great video brother! That neo geo king of the monsters game is so much fun!
Excellent pickups!! 😍 I’ve been purchasing Neo geo cd games lately for my Polymega too 😊 I think the issues you were having with G Darius are related to the latest Polymega update. I was having the same freezing and noise issues that you had with other games on the system until I read that if you disable WiFi and the home background music it can help correct the issue. Hopefully there will be a new update in the near future to fix these issues 🙏
Recently discovered you thru great friend. You my sir are legend.Hope you make it to Guinness and rekord these videos in your 100ts ❤️✌️
Awesome vid as always
love g-darius. My brothers and I would always rent it when we were younger. We’d always remembered it for the red and blue planes and giant fish
9:50 That's a life goal right there 💙
Devil Engine was my favorite game I played last year. You’re in for a treat.
10/10 game
Speaking of Neo Geo, I picked up Neo Turf Masters on MVS. Such an incredible golf game. I've been tracking down games I sold in the past, and it was a big one.
I loved Jade Cocoon when I played it in the late 90s/early 2000s. Definitely a hidden gem.
Forgotten by the companies, but not the fans. I'm fighting in the Karate tournament right now on Lunar : Eternal Blue. The SEGA cd version. This game really holds up.
I've watched you for years.. and I'm still blown away by the sheer amount of gaming, anime, arcade games you were exposed to back then. I know childhood is not all sunshine and roses.. but god damn, it must have been cool being exposed to all of that. You were truly "there"
I actually picked up Jade Cocoon as well, but never finished. Think it got repetitive, but it's been so many years I don't remember. Now Lunar was great... still in my everyday playlist and hope to revisit someday.
Some of the best items I’ve bought, quality wise, have been bootleg copies. My Cowboy Bebop dvd collection comes to mind. Glad you found that Final Fantasy album.
Devil engine for switch was pretty good, but the best part was finding out that the composer for it did music for thunder force 5 and other technosoft games. (Hyakutaro tsukumo) one of my favorites japanese composers ever! Lol great video!
I sold a copy of king of the fighters about 2 years ago that ended up in a bidding war. Glad it worked out for you Johnny!
Amazing pickups! 🎉😎
I have that Lunar 2 book too. It's really fantastic. I also have the guide book for the first Lunar game, both the one for the SEGA CD and the one for the PS2 release.
The Devil Engine is a really good shooter. The soundtrack is also incredible.
My local convenience store arcade had Baseball Stars Professional, King of the Monsters, Fatal Fury and World Heroes in the rotation. Spent a lot of quarters going there for a soda in the afternoon to hang out and play that machine with whoever was around. I really miss those arcades.
Happy Sunday 😎
I loved King of Monsters back in the day. I don’t find it quite as fun to play today, but that nostalgia hit is amazing.
I also recently bought Jade Cocoon. Also picked up Tsukihime and Trails Through Daybreak.
Man I was the only one of my friends back in the day in Cornwall UK that ever brought Jade Cacoon and they thought I was nuts haha. They didn't get that game at all. I loved it!
Those haunted gaming moments are wild, and would be a great video idea.
I was on Fable 2 the other day, and it spawned 3 of the same exact children NPCs next to me, and they all started screaming their random dialogues at me. Lol.
I've been playing the Final Fantasy: Crisis Core Remaster lately, and it's been an absolute joy.
Im sold on Savage Rain by the characters alone. Im going to have to look for that one
I recently picked up a complete copy of Silent Hill 3 on ps2. The game cost me an arm and a leg to get.
shoulda copped when it dropped
@@nickbrazinskystudios8279 Wow, amazing advice.
How much? Been on the lookout for awhile as well. Seems like it goes for about 250 now
@@spacelion4763 Anyone who pays $250 for a PS2 game needs help. & to the resellers, shame on you.
@@spacelion4763 $190 or so. Prices are cheaper if you exclude the soundtrack disc.
I feel like I played King of the Monsters at the arcade in Vancouver, WA way back in the day. Also, that Persona shirt is dope.
Awesome game stuff episode video man 😎!
I loved Shadowrun on the SNES, the soundtrack takes me back. The graphics weren't great back then I didn't care
My new games: I picked up SMT V: Vengeance, Monster Hunter Stories Collection, Princess Peach Showtime, Apollo Justice Ace Attorney collection, and, digitally, Ogre Tale pre-order and the 20th Anniversary of Beyond Good and Evil. Oh, and the Rocket Knight Sparkster Collection, in which I finished the first game on the Genesis. Thank you for these videos, Johnny.
Johnny, hearing you say only people your age remember Lunar is not true! I'm 21 and always loved the series (Thanks to you). Finding Lunar 1 for $50 boxed is still a find I never forgot and of course the game itself was a charm
My brother used to own Darius G. And I can't remember his copy ever freezing up or crashing, but there of course was frame rate problems on the boss fish. And I also do remember Jade Cocoon, it looked pretty good but I hadn't played it myself. Great episode
that Shadowrun was my GOTY 2022- so glad i decided to actually learn how it works & finish it. i'll never play the SNES one again- but i'll replay that one til i DIE!
Nice pick ups! I've been focusing on collecting Dragon Quest this past year. Got a nice deal recently for a stack of DQ Japanese games including my first copy of Dragon Quest X.
I've been eyeing those collectable figures on Amazon, they look fantastic I might need to buy them soon.
OMG You are a sight for sore eyes! Long time no see!
@HappyConsoleGamer Haha thanks, I've been busy and having a tough time of things but I'm getting though it. :)
Man this video came at just the right time, I've had such a bad week :( I thought I had finally managed to nab myself a reasonably priced copy of my favourite game from childhood, King of the Monsters on Neo Geo, but then some a-hole outbid me at the last minute! Aargh!! Luckily I have my usual Sunday Happy Console Gamer episode to cheer me up :) Can't wait to watch this!
I just got the Guyver ultimate edtion figure from Max factory. Got it for a good price from a Japanese seller on Ebay. Also bought the Guyver cd soundtracks from Japan I was missing. I owe you and Rob, a huge thank you. Just finished the ova for record of lodoss War, and it was awesome!!! Going to start the series next. ❤
I miss the Jade Cocoon games so much. Loved Jade Cocoon 2 especially!
Another amazing video. I just got a Super Nintendo that is regionfree. Got Final Fantasy 3, Secret Of Evermore, Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Super Mario World 2.
Your Switch shooter collection must be coming along nicely now. I would love to see a video talking about but about them, and maybe letting us know which gems are must haves.
