I've had the same engine in an A4 avant for over 10 years now and it has been great. Unfortunately I've just had to replace the swirl flap manifold actuators on both banks which cost £500 each plus labour. But to be expected on a 14 year old car. Really, an amazing under stressed engine that's turbine smooth, decently torquey and great for long distance cruising. Creamy v6 so nicer than your 4 cylinder clattering diesel. Engine clean because of undertrays doing their job.
i have to be honest, i prefer diesels in normal cars

Can't wait to get my A6. First Audi car, anything I should look out for when I go for a test drive?
first thing to do before you set out, check the Dealers Reviews and testimonials, Audis are pretty bullet proof, just listen out for knocks, and rattles from the suspension, also if they have 5 spokes or rotors make sure they are not buckled or have flat spots, listen out for a dum, dum, dum noise when braking and for a vibration through the car, check for vibration through the steering wheel or a pulsing through the foot brake (warped discs, wheel balancing, check for uneven wear on tyres, and panel gaps on bodywork, but above all check the mot and service history, if all that is ok then even if it is advertised as HPI clear, do the check yourself using www.vcheck.uk this also checks the Salvage Auctions since 2015 and highlights if it has been disposed of through a Salvage Auction as damaged and not been reported to MIAFTR use the code GGCARS at checkout and you will get 10% Discount
