      @@CampbellsCoins they sure did. Her husband was an honest to god war hero in WW2. Owned a bakery together and had kids when he got back. Unfortunately grandpa passed away before I met him and grandma was effected by Alzheimer’s by the time I came around. Apparently just before her mind went, she shopped around and got a collection of pre 33 gold coins.
      My mother ended up with a handful of them which I never even knew about until I was showing off my first gold Buffalo coin (a purchase heavily influenced by your channel)and she pulled out her jewelry box and put my stack to shame immediately. Hahaha.
      They are worth like 4x what grandma payed for them all those years ago… not that we would ever consider selling them… it’s just remarkable. She just knew because she was from that generation. Her hard earned money would be safe in gold.

    • @ctumbles74
      @ctumbles74 Před 9 měsíci

      One thing I don’t understand is that we realize gold as real money but it has no value other than sentimental unless we use it for a purchase. If every generation plans to never sell them they only have sentimental value.

    • @PTS156
      @PTS156 Před 9 měsíci

      @@ctumbles74 it has real value… more real value than fiat currency. If you hold a pre 33 coin and examine it, you realize how much more “valuable” a dollar truly was back then. The sheer effort put into a simple transactional coin was unreal, they made each coin a work of art and it was made of American gold. Todays dollar is churned out by the trillion from the printing press, backed by nothing but faith.
      Metal has been recognized as money for thousands of years, and unlike fiat, it will be recognized as sound money into the future. They can’t print any more gold or silver. That’s why you hold it.

      Those are my favorites too. Get a graded coin, you won't be disappointed. Just shop around because prices will vary for the same year, mint and grade. I say to get the graded ones because the sheen of an uncirculated gold piece really comes through and it's really something. Nothing wrong with an ungraded piece but forgeries exist. I would love to have some pre '33 gold. But man, I'm just trying to stack gold. I'm trying to get it for as little as possible. But I will be hopefully having a good conversation with the lcs tomorrow.
    Eventually I'll get some. And yes, very true, a great example of the great American history. Well damn, I'm not on IG. No problem, it's time well spent.

      Many common date Liberty $10 and $20 cost the same premium as 1/2 ozt and 1 ozt. modern gold Eagles; any of those in circulated condition definitely shouldn't have a higher premium. It is about 3% less weight in exchange for the historical punch.

      1/4 oz. is under the $600 price point, and common $5 Liberty coins from 1890-1907 should cost the same premium as modern fractional gold Eagles AT MOST; especially in circulated condition. Though I strongly recommend a base of Eagles (fractional or full) or Buffaloes with a small amount of variety; for ease of trading when the time comes.

If you’re dead set on playing music in the background of your videos, speaking as an audio expert, it should be no more than one tenth, to one third of the db of your actual content audio.

    It would be great if the US were a leader, not a follower. Mint the same denomination as pre33, with the same weights. Keep the St. Gaudens for the $20, bring back the Indian for the $10 and $5, and the classic liberty head for the 2 1/2
    Pipe dream I know…

    Are they all considered collectible regardless of condition?

    • @TheGroovyJones
      @TheGroovyJones Před 2 lety

      Changing the coins surface (polishing, cleaning, anything) is considered to harm the conductibility of any coin and people do that to pre-33 a lot. Also holes, deep scratches, dinged rims, etc., same result. A genuine coin with original surface and no problems is collectible regardless of wear, though except for key dates its dollar value is likely tied to gold content. The Indian designs currently have higher collector premiums than the earlier Liberty designs.

    • @CampbellsCoins
      @CampbellsCoins  Před rokem +1

      Are you talking a trade? Gold buffalo for AU pre 33? A few years ago, AU pre 33 sold for melt, the value of the gold in the coin. Now premiums are extremely high. It depends on the rarity of the pre 33 for me, but I would advise against it, UNLESS you really want the pre 33 and it's coming from a trusted source. I'm actually releasing a video tomorrow on this topic. Hopefully it adds more that I can't include in this comment.

    I am confused why I would care if a gold coin is a fake if it is the same gold and copper content anyway and costs the same melt $. Like buying a gold medallion I guess. I would buy a St Gaudens Double Eagle "fake" if it was in high relief looking super cool, same with a Liberty without all the bag marks from the stage coach shippings. Maybe why the 1858's are so cool, they just sat in the pacific for 150 years
