I am a real world Airbus pilot with thousands of hours flying the real aircraft and thought it would be fun to have a look at the detailed simulations of the 'bus in MSFS and X Plane. Hopefully you find this useful and it brings another perspective to your simulation. Any thoughts or comments are welcome!

you had the power management set to CLIMB during the entire descent, which may be why you had difficulty decelerating. apparently you leave it in CRUISE after top of climb until gear downwhere you set it back to TO.

TLU stand for Travel Limitation Unit. At airspeeds higher than 185 knots range that the rudder can move is limited so that high airspeeds do not damage it. Below 180 knts you have full rudder movement.

Thank you for this very thorough review. I found it enormously helpful (not finished yet as I'm taking it slowly). It's clear with all the bugs and bumps which will no doubt be sorted in due course, a lot of the complaints we've been seeing are ignorance of the systems and how to do things, not a fault of the aircraft itself. Having said that, it is to be hoped an update for some of the more obvious things will be not long in coming.

For the record, I've found that you can either put the ZFW/fuel into the FMS or set it in the sim weight/fuel panel and then use long press to populate. Both work for setting those numbers in the plane, so I just use what SimBrief gives me since you can never get exact numbers in the sim panel.

    Fun fact about Flight/Ground idle.
The older -500s used to allow the throttles to go to Ground Idle .... then there was a tragedy (shown on the Aircraft Investigation thing on Nat Geo).
After that they installed a mechanism to prevent it during flight.
This was installed as Standard with the -600s.

I believe the TLU is the Rudder Travel Limitation Unit. Basically, above 185 knots, it automatically restricts the rudder deflection to 50% of it's full deflection, to reduce the load on the control surface. When slowing down below 180 knots, the unit changes the max deflection back so the pilot can use full deflection again as it's deemed slow enough to be safe to do that

  • @BernardLangham

you can save your Simbrief flightplan including weights and balances in the Aerosoft CRJ format and put the resulting file into the asobo ATR folder buried in the MSFS settings tree (location varies for Steam and MS Store installations), then load it into the MCDU by typing the filename into INIT. it will be missing the destination airfield unless you edit the file to change the arrival approach information from (for instance) I30 to ILS30, R30 to RNAV30, L30 to LOC30 -- or you can simply enter the destination info manually.

If no one has answered or unsure; right as the start of the video, the mount under the rear door, I believe can act as a skid to prevent further damage in event of a rail strike but, for my job we know it primarily as the mounting point for the Tail Prop 👍🙂 prevents tail strike during loading and off loading

It's a great aircraft to finally have in the sim. As you stated, the systems integration seems very good and I love the modelling. Agree there should probably be a little bit of grime but I'm sure that can be fixed in an update. Apparently with the flare and landing, once the mainwheels touch down you need forward pressure to fly the nose down (according to a video by an ATR training Capt). Informative and fun video, great job. You seem very familiar with the systems. I am still struggling to remember what is where. I also find the displays tiny and hard to read, and "looking around" the cockpit in the sim of course is very difficult. I can't see the power or condition levers and it's hard to find the notch on T/O even with the "Notch Notch".
Ha, I am actually typed in the ATR from the early 90s on furlough. I remember very little about it and ours of course didn't have the glass cockpit, so this is like learning a totally new airplane. I am a Boeing guy with many thousands of hours in the 737s, so the switching and levers are very foreign to me. When I screw up, I am amazed that the condition levers and even the flaps have a mind of their own and will move uncommanded. Very different from the Boeing philosophy. How are you turning those knobs so smoothly?
BUT! I am having fun taking a break from easy 737 simming and it's good for my brain to get way out of my comfort zone. In a few more days I am going to start getting the hang of the ATR and then I will revisit my little commuter destinations of the long gone 1990s. Let me tell you, the years fly by in a blink and it's over before you know it. Enjoy! It seems you are. Again great video. I will re-watch. Hey, I am 1 entire video on CZcams and unlikely to add any more, but I am grateful to a commuting pilot for the 1.

Are those cabin cameras accessible or do you need to manually edit cfg files like with other planes ?
Great video btw, thinking about getting this plane.
Seems like a nice change from the CRJ

Amazing video. Talking about the reverse can you set up a switch to go in reverse ? Because for the PC12 that's what i do but the ATR doens't do it. I'm on the HOTAS X56

Yes it has some issues but a very impressive aircraft for the price. I have only flown basic visual circuits in it so far. Microsoft Flight Simulator CZcams channel released a great introductory video series to accompany the release

At SAS/XFly (and BRA as far as Ive seen) we only plug in DC on turnarounds and departures, I've never seen the 400Hz plug be plugged in bar in the hangar.

Awesome video and a pretty good beginners tutorial. Does anyone know if the screens are touchscreens in real life or only in the sim???

Question. When/if you use number 2 engine as an APU. Are you suppose to activate the beacon light as procedure?

Could you do a video shoeing how to manage changes in approach? At times ATC assigns different approach than the one required. The FPMS in ATR leaves me flabbergasted. Would be pretty helpful

Your voice is so calming. You should do audiobooks or podcasts. I also have no idea what you look like and I don't want to know. I have an image in mind.

How are you ? I hope you are great , I see that you have a lot of experience on the subject, I would be upset to know something that worries me, and that is that I have observed that when these planes are directed, taxiing, they end when they arrive at their destination, and before discharging their passengers, They arrive with only one engine on... is this procedure part of the pilots' checklist, and is it a requirement? Or is this action applicable at the discretion of each pilot? Thanks a lot.😊

Is everything on the overhead panel interactable, or only a select few switches and levers? Thanks a bunch ahead of time, was thinking about getting this.

fun fact: all the Finnair ATRs had boarding stairs at the front by special request, so that they could attach to the airbridges at Helsinki Vaanta.

I find the thing with "no devices" both a funny and slightly disturbing story. Because you know they had to find a way not to require that BECAUSE I guarantee you half the passengers give or take would always ignore the requirement anyway.

I think Start A, Start B and start a+b like ignition left/right/both switch in B738/ In sim we can select any, because we have no durability/maintenance problems. each flight - new factory craft

How does one delete "bad" waypoints on the FMC? My imported flt plan from SimBrief included a couple of fixes that the ATR can't fly, they're off course. The 737 has a delete key for cleaning up routes, but the ATR doesn't. How can the route be modified while I'm still safely on the ground?
