    • @jyoung9434
      @jyoung9434 Před rokem +1

      @@JAshw84 No. The refrigerator valve automatically switches to bypass the filter when the filter is removed, then automatically reconnects when new filter is installed. After replacement "Flush 4 gallons of water through the filter before use", according to the instructions on the back of the filter packaging. That sounds a little excessive to me (43 twelve-ounce glasses). So, I just run at least 16 twelve-ounce glasses thru it and then one or two bins of ice (& discard). Then give it a "taste test" before you clear your family to use it.

    Not sure why one needs to unplug the fridge to change the water filter but in the interest of safety I won't argue the point. I changed the filter today on my Kenmore side by side without any problem until I tested the water dispenser which would not shut off after being engaged. Never had this happen after several prior changes. Shut the water supply off, reinstalled the filter (same way) then flushed the air out of the system and everything was fine. My fridge is a kitchenaide superba and the filter was probably last changed over 4 years ago before the foreclosure...we have owned the house for over a year and we've put this off because we are dreading it LOL and the ice and water still tastes more or less fresh but I want to change it because the indicator light is quite red ( duh lol ). Do I have to order something with the same or similar number on the filter?? I have not gotten the filter out yet. I don't want to spend 15 or 20 bucks on the wrong thing. I'm dreading this so bad because my hubby and I are not handy at all and it's hard for us to see or bend down. I'm afraid we're gonna mess it up or order the wrong one. Should I just hire a handyman or something to do this? How do you prime the filter?? It almost makes me want to just get a new Fridge. Honestly, it's overwhelming. +Brenda House Assuming you had good pressure before I would take the filter out and see if that improves the pressure. It could be the valves in the filter housing are bad and it need to be changed. How much water to be discarded after Changing the filter ?

    • @jyoung9434
      @jyoung9434 Před rokem

      4 gallons, according to the instructions on the back of the filter packaging. That sounds a little excessive to me (43 twelve-ounce glasses). So, I just do at least 12 twelve-ounce glasses and one or two bins of ice. 😀

    I have always had a problem turning the filter once it is inserted. Your video makes it look easy when in fact it has never been easy. I have tried pliers and still it will not turn. What's up?

    • @tonimonton6651
      @tonimonton6651 Před 9 lety

      Elaine Gootee You have to push it in way harder than what this video shows. Take the grill cover off, and grab the steel frame bottom of the fridge to get leverage, then push really hard with the handle in a vertical position. Also, when taking it off, take the handle off and use pliers otherwise you will break the handle.

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  Před 9 lety

      Elaine Gootee As Toni mentioned you may have to push in a little to get it to release.

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  Před 8 lety

      +Elaine Gootee The filters should come in and out pretty easy, but yes some are tighter than others. The only thing I can think of is maybe the filter housing somehow got damaged on yours. Changing it is not that hard and we do have videos on the popular ones. You can go to our website and enter your appliance model number to view the parts breakdowns to see the housing and if it has a video.

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  Před 6 lety +1

      If there is no water hooked up to the fridge and you aren't using it to dispense water or ice, there's no reason to change the filter.

      If the filter will not turn you can remove the handle that snaps onto it and use a pliers to grab the filter directly.

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  Před 9 lety

      Maria Serna Make sure you turned the water back on, it may take a little while for it to dispense and get any air out of the line. Make sure you follow the filter box instructions on how much water to run through the dispenser. You can also post the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you troubleshoot the problem.

      AppliancePartsPros Hi. In my country this filter is sooo expensive. Can I leave it in and install the generic in line filter on a hose (water line) that is coming to the fridge? Thank you...

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  Před 9 lety

      If the filter is in, water will pass through it and eventually it will clog, even with another filter. For some model you can buy a water filter bypass for this purpose. Check with your local suppliers to see if its possible for your model.

      +AppliancePartsPros I bought a water fiter for same fridge in the video. The filter cost me 50 bucks at Home Depot and didn't even come with a sticker. Also the filter has a notice saying flush filter with 4 gallons of water. Is this necessary? I don't have time for all that especially with a thin stream of water coming out the fridge

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  Před 8 lety

      You may want to see why you have low pressure. Flushing the filter removes any loose filter material that may be in the filter.
