      Aye I was self taught for a long time but I just gotta put out there it’s only best until you get comfortable on your instrument and then you should get some kind of instruction. For me it was marching quads and it just opened my eyes to techniques I’d never even heard of and got me over plateaus of speed, creativity, and motivation. I respect the hell out of being self taught but everyone needs a mentor at some point. Keep on going man, you’re killing it

      Well that's your problem this technique is very important it sounds like you need to actually do some homework and learn the fundamentals and not just copy what you see on a CZcams video lol so that way you have all the knowledge you create your own drum patterns and create your own sound I been a drummer for 42 years now hi hats is very important cause the hi hats is what keep tempo and patterns in tune

      Haha it’s the Moeller technique here for sure. It just chases a lot of people away when they hear specific words, so I just broke it down in simple terms to get more reach for the video. (Which I’d just do for a short, and never and actual lesson)

      Awesome! Shorts are great to get inspiration from, but 30 - 60 seconds is very hard to learn from. I'd suggest diving into a few elaborate lessons to help you guys.

    It’s the moeller technique. When doing this, you alternate between playing with your wrist and with your arm, which is of course much more efficient than having either wrist or arm do all the work.

    Yo that little bit right there was dope he did it right he gave you a quick demonstration but subliminally he made sure the hi-hats sound crispy clean and he gave you space to hear the high hats Krispy clean then he banged out a quick pocket groove slow and then sped up and cut it short and that was it đŸ‘ŠđŸ§đŸ„âœšâœšâœšđŸ’ŸâœšđŸ’™âœšđŸ§ąđŸ—œ

    I always pride myself just a little bit about how I play specifically catered towards speed, and therefore over time of practicing I'm faster than most drummers,

    I was lucky enough to go to a masterclass done by dom famularo who studied with the student of moller the man who developed this teqnique. I use this constantly and it is definetly one of the corner stones of drumming.

      you need to practice it very slowly, its almost as if you gotta let your wrist go floppy. took me so long to master it even with my amazing drum teacher, i cant even explain it very well. good luck

    Defeating learning curve if you play an e-kit. It's either closed/mid closed/or open. If you SLAP the edge, it's just a closed hit but louder. 🙃 Damn I miss my acoustic set up.

    Only problem is that it creates a different sound. Works good to do when you want to accent or change up a sound, or that's just the groove in general, but most groves will sound better if it is the same sound of hi-hat. Still a good speed/stamina builder, just don't get too attached to this method.

    For some reason my muscles do jot work that way, it's actually easier for me to play the same type of stroke with each hit. I just focus on staying lose, using any bit of rebound available and finger muscles in conjunction with my wrists.

    Even better..... Instead of hitting the middle and edge of the symbol, create a little pendulum on your index finger where the stick rests and bounce the stick up and down on that. Each time the stick bounces up, catch it and bring it back down for another hit and....repeat.

    You don't need to switch between the edge and the top to do this, you could do both notes on the top or on the edge. It's all about the rocking motion.
