- Hey guys!! Sorry for being a day late on this video; I'm back home in Minnesota this weekend to surprise my mom for mother's day and attend my sister's college graduation, so it's been hectic.
But I hope you enjoy the video of my new angelfish getting added to the 90 gallon tropical community tank! I love these guys, they really are so personable and fun to watch and they're exactly what this tank needed to feel more finished. Now to think of good names for them...

pause the video at 5:05 and look at his scales
LOVE YOUR VIDS
Jenny, Line of sight aggression is the most important thing to think about with angels.
I use and recommend lots of larger plants and driftwood to break up the tank into territories for the fish to claim and defend as their own and defend.
You have two different strains of Bristlenose that are both sold as 'albino'. Your female appears to have amelanism, which reduces melanin overall and is closer to what the animal trade tends to think of as a true albino (because mammals only produce skin pigment through melanin, so in mammals it would be a true albino, but in animals like fish that produce colors with other genes it technically is not). Your male appears to have xanthrochromism. This also strips melanins (especially reds and browns) but instead of just removing it it replaces it with yellow (xanthophores, one of the non-melanin pigments). These two strains of albino are both recessive and not allelic so the first generation will all be 'wilds'.
And that is my attempt at being a know-it-all for today.
Jess A thanks for the explanation!
Genetics fascinate me, so thanks for clueing us in :)
Would the 2nd generation have any higher chance of expressing the recessive trait? If punnet squares taught me anything, it would seem so! Breed the F1 for "albinos"
Kevin Van Slycke Yes! Breeding the babies would give wilds, xanthic albinos and amel albinos. I don't know of xanthic/amel secondary morphs in bristlenose. Most of my genetics studies have been with snakes and chickens.
Jess A I just commented roughly the same thing! It’s definitely easier in snakes to tell different strains of albino. I think her female could be leucistic 🤔, but she doesn’t have the blue eyes that other leucistic animals. I don’t know if blue eyes show up in leucistic fish but one would think so.
Happy Mother's day Jen...and yes you are!
Angelfish are great. Got my first one when I was 8 years old. Now I'm 53 and have 10 tanks just angels. They are great and fun and very personable
Angelfish are so rewarding to keep. Mine took a little while to warm up to their home and start to recognize me, but after they did they became one of my favorite fish. They are really curious fish and have great personalities
When the Angelfish were placed in the new tank, they looked so majestic.
Tannin filled aquariums need more love... I always have to add disclaimers in my videos when I show tanks with tannins too :P
Creative Pet Keeping i hate it when visitors come to my house and ask me why my fish tank is "dirty"
Creative Pet Keeping Hmm, since doing my first dirted tank a month ago, I've noticed tannins escaping from the wood chips in the organic soil. At first, I was none too happy, but tea stained haze started growing on me. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm still obsessed with pristine/clear agua, but maybe in the not so distant future, I could let tannins run amok in a tank or two.
Creative Pet Keeping I like little water with little tanin,it looks nice to me....
not all fish live in clear waters
Put the single angelfish in the community tank first so it can establish its own territory and then add the other three one at a time. Btw I have fancy goldfish and angelfish( two separate tanks) and I love them
Nvm I saw that you already added them😂😂😂
Right!? Rookie mistake. Always add the aggressors last.
I AM AWESOME j that was a bad mistake cause now she will probably have to get rid of the other one
I was going tp sugest the same thing and then i was like eghh why
Athos, Porthos, and Aramis came to mind as soon as I saw the three together. I absolutely love angels. I have an over abundance right now as mine have been breeding (babies everywhere cute as cute can be). They are wonderful fish.
you should've moved the pick-on angel fish first. wait a week or two then start moving the other angel fish. move them one at a time with a couple of days between. move the less aggressive fishs fist. tank decorations will help with the aggression.
Angelfish! Angelfish! Yay! Yay! Yay! You're one of my favorite CZcams fishie people, and Angelfish are my absolute favorites! Good luck, and be prepared to start having Angelfish babies in a few months (I have no doubt your Angels will pair off and have little ones). I set up my aquarium for the first time in several years back in February. I now have two Angelfish pairs laying eggs and I have free-swimming fry from one pair this past Monday. The baby fry are in a filtered pickle jar inside the larger aquarium. I'm gonna need another bigger aquarium very soon! I love that tannin tinted aquarium too.
I’m actually friends with the drummer in Flotsam and Jetsam. When I was younger I was in school with his son and they are a really awesome chill family.
I’m a bread baker, so this is the end of my day. Thank you for ending it on a great note.
With angel fish you ideally want to keep them either - single, a bonded pair or a large group of them to spread out aggression. If you get rid of the other one, then you run the risk of two bonding and then the third one needing to be removed. If you want to keep the peace, in a sense, you will want 6 - 8 minimum for a group. Been keeping them for 28 years and one of my favorite types of fish :) Yours are very pretty!
I used to breed Angelfish and Discuss. I have to say they are about the same but anglefish are much easier and more tolarate to change. Nice to see u got some cool larger fish to add to the 90
Love your video, but just wanted to pass on a tip. When moving angel fish its better to transfer only one at a timeusing the net method as their fins are very easy damaged. Nothing worse than a nicely colored angel with a damaged pectoral fin or a bent dorsal fin. Often happens at fish stores where you pick out a really nice angel only to get him in your tank at home and notice his fins are forever bent.
LOVE the angelfish! If I had a natural tank, I would totally get some :)
i hope the community fish get you into planted tanks! they're really quite pretty and serene, and learning about all the plant types is pretty cool if you ask me.
Love the Angelfish, they are looking very happy in their new home. :)
Thank you for sharing.
"Your laptop is a little bare" like you need it! LOL XD That one makes my day!
Angels are cichlids so there is some aggression possible but they're pretty docile as far as SA cichlids go. The aggression displays are actually what makes them super interesting. They'll be great in the 90 with the black phantom. The added space will be good got the grouping. Try adding more plants to break the sightlines and give more territory markers. I'm sure they'll all be great
Yay they look like The Supremes! What an awesome tank! Peace and hugs kp
Finally I received solid gold merch.Yeah!!!!! Its cool and makes me feel like happy.Thnx for the merch.I'll Try to buy more
Nice video, and kudos on a beautiful tank. Those two plants look great, I'm going to have to watch it again to grab the name of them.
One suggestion on the angel fish: they tend to pair up, so if you notice that the group of 3 you just added isolate one, place the isolated one back with the other solo angel and they may pair up. Wait a few weeks, then you may have some success adding the other pair back into the larger tank. It doesn't work very often, but it's worth a try.
But good luck with your new fish, and keep up the good work
They show up so much better in there new home...Looks like they are still hanging out together Lol ( they are so pretty)
Hi Jen, those 2 plants you got are really beautiful. I just planted 4 bulbs and they grow pretty quick. Can’t wait to see how yours do so keep showing us the 90 so I can see those plants. Thanks
Love the 90G tropical tank! Those Angels are very pretty!
Angels are awesome fish to keep....I'm sure u will enjoy keeping them....good luck Jennie....
I love watching your videos! I also love that you have opened up to us a bit.
You should be able to are the other Angel fish since the new tank is over twice as large. Also since it's got plants and wood for cover and the tetras as dither fish, it should be ok. Just a thought.
Hi from sunny uk great angels great addition plus awesome background music ,yeah for Jenny 😀
Very cool. I'm going to have to put down my last goldfish, and have been considering trying angels again in my 75 gal.
I used to have a group of angels, and they had issues with aggression. If I had a larger tank, I would have gotten more, but I had to get rid of two, leaving myself with one, (his name is Blackey). He's doing well now in our community tank, but at one point his fins were so damaged that I wondered if he was swimming OK. Because you have four angels already, it would be an opportunity to get one or two more to dissipate the aggression. They are absolutely stunning BTW!
You have a dominant male and possibly two females, due to which they are pecking at the fourth one. I'm pretty sure you'll soon have them paired up and spawning on the driftwood. All the best!
To help the koi angelfish, add more !! At least double them (in the 90g) when there is some form of agression with angels (or discus) a LOT of the times you can solve it by adding more. This way the group grows and there will be less picking at each other.
You should move the angel fish that is getting picked on into the 90 gallon first so he can get established and fatten him up there so he has the advantage when you move the other 3 instead of the other way around. You might have more success!
I think it's better to put the singled out angel in the big tank first. Let him/her get established for a while, put on some size and then add the others. The 3 will be a insecure after you add them while the first one is already established. That always works well.
Great video! The Angelfish are so pretty. Also my cat woke up when Palmer was singing and glared at me. I do not think he was impressed. 😂
Aw man, I was really hoping for an update on the pond goldfish
Cooper Olm it will come, patience my child
The angels look awesome! One of my goals when I move into my own place is to have a large tank precisely with black phantom tetras and angelfish. They just seem to go well together. Also, when you switch out the sand for a darker planted tank substrate the tetras will probably become darker and have a nice rich black to them. I think that being over light sand makes their color a little washed out.
Aw the Pleco fish and Jetsam/Flatsam are so cute!
It’s because of Platinum angelfish that I rejoined aquarium hobby after a thirty year absence. Lol. Love your Angels and your video❣️
Cool this will look cool in the 90 gal ! Love you Jenny have a nice day every one !!+
I think you would like watersprite for the background. Grows fast, tall, easily, and quickly.
Nice angel fish and the tank looks great.
One tip is that it would have been better to add the picked-on angel fish first and then later add the bullies one by one. That way it throws the bullies off and they don't have an established territory. Maybe you could swap them around, just an idea.
It is easier to pot up the plants that need soil. It makes gravel vac, scaping and adding fertilizers very easy. The Angels may even use the side of the pots for eggs. Mine did.
I didn't know you're from Minnesota! it's so nice to know someone I love to watch is from the same backyard as me! I'd love to meet you one day but it seems we're both busy with family, but all that aside I love your channel and give my congrats to your sister for graduation!
Your community tank is beautiful in its simplicity. Love the angels, and Black Phantom tetras are one of me favorites. Good luck with the new fish!
I love your angel fish I have got 4 I love them they will do well in with lost of plants xx
Hey Jennie you could always add that picked on angle fish first and let it get the first pick of territory’s you’ve prob thought of this but just Incase you haven’t
Tyler i was thinking the same thing. Glad someone mentioned it.
Awww Palmer
The angels look great in that tank. 😊 I'm really starting to appreciate plecs and I'm considering one for my 33 Gallon tank. 😊
The Madagascar lace looks fantastic! I've always wanted to have some, but I'm scared I'm going to kill, and it's so much more expensive than other plants I just can't do it! Maybe one of these days. You got those two for a bargain though! They look great! And the angels look awesome too! Glad you decided to get you some!
just started a tank a month ago and i love my angelfish! they’re so gorgeous and have never picked at any of the other fish (added in 6 mollies about two weeks after the initial angel) and only chased around the smaller one i added in (since one of the initial ones died ); ) for about a couple hours
It's easy just keep the picked alone for awhile, fatten 'him up and when You put him back with the others just move some of the decor around and the other 3 will kind of be confused with the mix up, I used to breed Angels, works really well.
Re Bristle-nose Plecos: I know that with Leopard Geckos, there are three different albino strains (Bell, Tremper, and Vegas/Rainwater.) Though they are all albino genes, they are incompatible. If you breed a Bell to a Tremper, you'll get all wild-type babies. I wouldn't be surprised if there was something like this going on with your fish, which would possibly explain why the male is more yellow than the female. The koi angelfish are beautiful! I think the one that was getting picked on is the prettiest and I hope you're able to keep it!
I love that you added the angel fish they look great in the tank
I love you Jenny ur vids ate what got me into goldfish keeping! I have a 6 1/2 inch long comet goldfish(named Lola she's one year old),a black Moor (named pineapple), and a 3 inch long fancy calico one eyed scales goldfish named one eyed Jackie! When I got Lola her best friend passed away so I got her a new buddy Jackie the one eyed scales goldfish. Lola had been abused at Petco. I thought she wouldn't live long but I still got her. The Petco lady taking care of Jackie said to me that she wasn't going to live long because of her disability. So I did what any 13 year old would do I put them together! Lola loves Jackie and acts like a mother to her. She swims on Jackie's blind side and helps her find food! And after 1 year there very very healthy! And nice and fat and happy!
looooovvveee angels! so happy to see how it goes for u
Love these updates on this tank!! Happy fish keeping :D
My mom had an angle fish when I was little! There was a bunch of snails in the tank that they liked to eat in there too xD
Your doing so awesome with the dart frog vivarium, it would be awesome to see you do a heavily planted tank for the angel fish. Give them plenty of hiding places.
We call zucchini "courgettes" in Britain and the very large varieties we call "marrow".😊
You need another couple of Angelfish to add to the group to spread the aggression out. The same as your Discus, they will always do better in a bigger group, if you only have a few then one will usually get singled out and bullied
I bought a group of 6 koi type angels but i wound up only getting 2 breading pairs out of them and i split them up in different tanks. My favorite pair used to chase a cat laser around the aquarium. Too funny!
The substrate is perfect !!!! Just addd food tablets for the plants .
Haha! My GSD howls when I do too. Much deeper and wolflike though. Probably cause he is older. 5 or 7
Whoo! Minnesota!!
I never like merch, but this one is just too cute!
That third song, 'Play With You' by Ehrling is awesome!
Love it ! Maybe get another one two so any aggression is evened out . They can be aggressive during breeding and just after they've paired up . .
Beautiful! I’d love to have angelfish some day 💜
That dog should go on the voice. He has great potental. Lol
they look great ,i think a little group of panda corys would good with them also great as a clean up crew
You should do a patio pond with angelfish and lily pads so you could do something unique and kinda out of the ordinary
And just when I was thinking about adding Angelfish to my community tank... But now learning that they can be quite aggressive, I am going to rethink on finding fish that are great mid-depth tank fish. Currently I have fancy guppies that swimming near the top, red tetras mid-depth and Cories at the bottom. I just wanted to add one or two more species of fish to swim mid-depth of the tank.
Your new angel fish amazing paradise tank✨🐠& music edit was ✨✨😍 woooooooooooowwwwwwwww✨✨✨✨✨❤️
I've heard that bristlenose love to chew on amazon swords, never kept them at the same time, so I don't speak from experience. But felt I had to mention it. On different matters, I do think big leafed anubias would look bettering such a large tank, compared to nanas or petite. Now for the angel fish....... I love them. I used to keep a pair of marbles that I raised up from small babies a few years ago, they looked pretty similar to your big ones there, except with a more orange head, but they did bully another angelfish I tried to keep with them, so I ended up keeping it separated from them. Hopefully your trio doesn't choose the weakest or smallest one to pick on once again. Love the new fish, I'm sure you'll fall in love with them
They really do, never ate any of my other plants but tore swords to pieces! Lots of echinodorus plants have the same leafy look though and are actually nicer imo
keep us posted on these fish. i love seeing them. and i'll like these types of vids
Ok, so this comment isn’t exactly related to this (awesome :D) video but I’ve done *a lot* of research and I’ve finally bought myself a very large tank. The reason I commented about this is because I would like some breed & name suggestions for my upcoming fishies! (She/He/They will be fresh water fish!) One again, another great video Jennie!
i have always had angels and they're amazing :)
When my angels fight i added plants to break the line of sight! Maybe worth a shot. ❤
They are so pretty😍
Love your vids, they are so amazingly informative..
My solid gold shirt got here today hypeee
When you move the angels, they may be ok with each other, as you have some "dither" fish. Also, the plants and and driftwood may help with breaking up line of sight attacks. P.s I'm loving your flowy tank tops!! I have 4 currently lmao!
Great video, awesome addition!!
If your putting them in with the Black Phantom Tetras you might want to watch them closely, they might be fin nippers towards the Angelfish.
So glad you got angels !!!
To solve the aggression, just get more angels. I have 9 angels of all sizes and before when i had 3 they used to fight all the time, but as i got more, the fighting all stopped and they seem a lot more comfortable. I think when they have groups of 7 or larger they calm down a lot more
So cute. It's kinda funny how their called angel fish and their a little aggressive
This is a fairly old video so there's a chance you've done it already or won't even see this, but your substrate is fine for plants. You can plant in sand as long as it isn't a suuuuper fine grain that can compact and inhibit root growth. Those expensive "planted tank substrates" aren't needed, especially if you plan to have mostly things like anubis which feed from the water column. If you wanna help out your substrate feeding plants, just get some root tabs which are a lot cheaper especially since you'll have to resort to them anyways since planted substrates eventually lose they're mineral content overtime, typically around the one year mark, and you only need to put a couple in every few months. Hope that helps!
My hound howls like that and that dog is so cute
I love you so much your the reason why got my little group of platys
They are really cute, I never really been taken with angels as I am more of a saltwater keeper, however they look great in a community tank ☺💟
Greetings Jenny. The angel fish have a hierarchy. Unfortunate one being picked on is on the bottom. In his absence they will reassert another runt and picking will continue. My 2 cents. Nice video
Omg I just realized that flotsam and jetsam are the names of the eels from the little mermaid!
So clever!
They are beautiful.
The Angels will pick on new comers, so it may be difficult to add the fourth one later on...
Just ordered my new solid gold merch took alot to convince my mom
