I'm an assistant manager at a Sally's, here in Michigan in the US, and I always direct our customers to your videos when they are wanting to do acrylics or gel nails at home. All of your videos are very informative, and whenever you use products that I recognize from our store, it helps further my knowledge about that product. So, I guess what I'm trying to say, is thank you for all the knowledge that you give me, and our customers!!💜💜

You have to be careful with products of lower grade. I used Ebay products and ended up with allergies. Had acrylics done professionally but when I started doing my own nails a few years later, ended up with the allergies. Unfortunately I have to be so careful now as to products. Find that Brisa Gel, Silcare and NDED are great gels for us allergy prone gals. I use CJP acrylics and the Hema-Free Monomer.

I agree with Elizabeth's point of knowing the fundamentals! I'm a graphic designer and we were taught that in order to be successful in breaking the rules (aka being experimental and being expressive) you have to know how to do things formally. I guess an example is how many fine artists are quite abstract with their famous works, but all were classically trained!

The nail industry has come really far just in the past 10-15yrs. I first used glue on nails in 1963-64!!! as a 13 yo. I'd keep some of my allowance an go to the 5 an 10 (walmart type store) an every weekend I'd buy 2 boxes. If I remember correctly the cost per was just a little over $1.25. From then until 18months ago I kept my nails done. What I would recommend for every beginner is to hand file acrylic nails, at least once or twice. It helps learning pressure, smoothness, thickness of
nails. Then of course move on to electric file. Oh, those nail from 1963 only stayed on for a couple hrs. before one would pop off. Lol. Thank you ladies so much for all the information you make available. This was a great video.

IBD is a professional product, and was one of the pioneers in the gel industry since the early 70's. I've used it for 25yrs in salon.
I've been using gels since the early 80's. I use ibd hard gel. I can lay a set of overlays with ibd in under 5 min. I lay a slip layer and then apply my drag.
I've been making my own polygel with ibd hard and clear acrylic to sculpt tips. It works great. I have very little lifting.

I am also learning everything from you and Elizabeth, Kirsty, and so many others. I love utube and all the great teachers in the nail biz. I did a full set of gel nails the other day on myself and it took an hour per nail, inlay, glitter, encasing etc., They came out perfect! Patience. Practice. Perseverance. The Three P's of nail art.
The amount of time it takes to create a full set of short extensions on myself is always astounding.
My first set with hard gel took six hours, with glitter encapsulated. That was a several months ago, and started from already bare nails.
I did a fresh set of poly gel extensions, with glitter and glow-in-the-dark pigment this morning: five hours including take down of last set (down to thin base coat) to final top coat. There's one nail that may get refiled (how do I keep missing that corner?!?!?) but otherwise they look great.
I am not a pro, but I am thinking about going to school and becoming one. I just really love doing nails. It's my Zen time 😊
Thanks to all the great videos by Suzie and Liz and all the other awesome professional nail techs and artists on CZcams I am finding all the great information, tips and tricks it takes to be confident in my own ability. ❀

I have to say that as a DYIer there is no way in hell I would pay $250 for a uv lamp let alone spend $500 for supplies. If I had that kind of $$ I'd pay someone else to do it for it me. Now do this with a $100 budget and that might be closer to reality. I bought a dip powder system from Amazon for around $50 and used my Dremel until I could afford a decent drill for around $40. The drill I got was one of the ones you reviewed actually. I love you guys but $500 budget is pro pricing not DIY

I do DIY nails only on myself and my hardest struggle is always finding quality products that I can buy without being a licensed tech.
I have a full time career so going to school to become licensed isn't really an option for me :( I just wish it wasn't so hard to get ahold of the good stuff since I'm not into paying $50 for basic gel overlays.
It's really nice to show the struggles we go through as DIYers!

Try Max's products, u don't need a license and its total quality. Hes involved from start to finish in everything that has to do with his products. They've also won awards and he uses only his own stuff in all his competitions. Suzie had Max on her show a few times also And she uses his Gummy jelly to adhere gems and his Shinee top coat. Max Estrada Enailcouture.com
I use all of his hard gels
My favorite is Candy jelly Eternal beige.
All his stuff can be used together and I like his hard gel because u don't need a base or bonder but u can use it if u want. I just dehydrate, prime and apply n ur done. All his stuff smells like candy all the dust falls down and my nails last well over 6 weeks. Good luck!

Eventually moved up to the revel dip powder which the starter kit is 50 USD. My uv/led combo light was 35 USD and my e-file was under 30 USD... the builder gel I bought which works great was maybe 15 dollars and I have decent brushes that cost less than 10 dollars. My e-file bits were around 8 dollars per bit. Meanwhile you go to a pro store that you can buy stuff as a non pro and spent 500 dollars... no one I know spent that much ever on starter kits etc... my gel polish normally comes from ebay for around 1.50 dollars for 8ml, or 3 dollars for 15ml. I also bought an electronic nail file from wish.com and it cost me about $15 USD. Although it took me about 4 hours the first time I did them because I had to file so much off. I was very impressed with myself. They didn't look that bad. I improved over time and have graduated to doing dip nails now. It's so much easier and only takes me about 45 mins to do a whole set with filing. I still enjoy watching all the nail videos on CZcams though and I still learn things all the time. Wow, that lamp priced ridiculously high. I use to use a sensational lamp from Walmart for $14. Used it with Ibd hard gel and it worked great, never had a problem with lifting or not curing.

What wattage is the lamp :) I have a 9 watt lamp but I want to start using the hard gel and thought ibd might be a good place to start

I’ve been if doing my acrylic nails for 2 years now and I learned everything from watching your videos! Thank you so much for posting your videos! They’re so much fun to watch and so inspiring. I never thought I’d be able to do my own acrylics. I remember when I first started out that I kept watching you videos in liquid to power ratios lol I’m still learning sometimes but I’ve made so much progress because of you

Luv Suzie and Liz is my favorite I watch every one of her videos on nail hub. For non professionals I recommend watching lots of youtube tutorials and ordering your products/tools on ebay/born pretty/aliexpress/Amazon. You can find amazing gels lamps and drills that can be purchased even if you're a non professional.
