Trout Fishing is Easier than Micro Fishing (Backbone State Park Species Hunting Part 3)

  • We only had about an hour to fish before we had to pack up and leave Backbone State Park, so we decided to head back to our honey hole and catch a few micros before we left, hopefully landing a few new species. I was lucky to land two new species. What I believe was a Bigmouth Shiner (I thought it was just a common in the video, but after review it looks more like a Bigmouth and they are present in this watershed. And I also landed my 39th species, a Western Blacknose Dace, which is the same dace Viv caught in our last video.
Unfortunately, Viv wasn't able to land any micros. However, after giving up in frustration, she started crushing the trout, and landed a new personal best Rainbow Trout which was 13.5 to 14 inches. Somehow she managed not to land a Brook Trout, though, which is a species she still needs.
I guess it just goes to show that micro fishing is actually harder than trout fishing :)

Great video man! Congrats on the western blacknose dace too. Micro fishing truly takes a ton of patience! Also, that shiner at the beginning was a common shiner. Heres some good webpages about the bigmouth shiner: nas.er.usgs.gov/queries/FactSheet.aspx?SpeciesID=593

Thanks for the heads up on the shiner. I went back and forth on this one for a while.
